| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 6/18/2007 6:48:39 AM | You're right, pucks, but I wouldn't call the Jays a sleeper team. They are pretty solid this year and would be a much stronger force if a few of their key players weren't sidelined right now.
(As a Sox fan, it's nice to see BJ Ryan not on the rock pile!)
I love watching the Sox/Jays games as much as the Sox/Yankee games...there is just as much skill there.
I like the Jays, but my heart stays with the Sox!

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 6/19/2007 8:42:53 PM | | The Red Sox are a great team, and will likely win the East. I really like the Indians to win the pennant, though. | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 6/20/2007 2:36:17 PM | Their is Something Missing from the Red Sox... The Sox have to be careful to not get lose to many games cause the yanks are right behind them... I Hate the Yanks

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 6/21/2007 8:50:14 AM | Curt Schilling will be on the DL so it looks like we'll get to see John Lester make his return
It was really good to see some great offense against the Braves in the 11-0 victory.
Today's an off-day then there's a three game set against a good Padres team.Should be interesting.Over here on the East Coast, the first two games start at 10pm

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 6/21/2007 9:00:46 AM | So far, it looks like Beckett is pitching Sunday. Monday is Tavarez and Tuesday's pitcher has not yet been announced. This is according to their website.
Lester pitched for Pawtucket on Wednesday and there has been no comment yet on him coming back...but there is talk of him being slotted in for Tuesday...we'll see what happens!!
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 6/22/2007 8:58:07 AM | Well, we're back to 10.5 games up over the yanks. They got up to 8 games back but showed they just couldn't do it!
Still the best team in baseball!! There may have been a few days where we had the second best W-L percentage, but look at the overall picture. It really isnt worth picking at those few days!!
I still can't believe we lost 2 games to Texas!! even though it was back in April.

I still can't believe we lost 2 games to Texas!! I can't believe we were swept by the Mariners.
And we're just about at the halfway point (tomorrow will be #80 already!!). I'm not saying anything, good or bad to jinx us- we all know how it goes after the all star break, BUT if we can stay on track, 100W is not entirely out of the realm of possibility!

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 6/30/2007 10:09:05 PM | The mariners owned your butts on that 3 game set........ hope you guys are ready for more when they come back to safeco in august, cause it will be a repeat of what happened a couple days ago......9 straight wins against boston, and 3 more when they return to seattle.

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/2/2007 6:19:12 AM | It feels pretty good knowing that the Red Sox had a losing record in June and still have a double-digit lead in the division...
Julio Lugo needs to get his act together because right now he's dead weight. He's a decent player, but the Red Sox might end up getting rid of him if he's not producing offensively...
5 All-Stars in the All-Star game is pretty damn good.I believe that's the most coming from any team. They're going to make us Sox fans proud
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/2/2007 7:55:00 AM | Not just Lugo, although he is in a deep slump! They all need to get their act together or that big lead will be gone! Toronto is playing pretty good right now and slowly narrowing the gap.
Let's hope the five all-stars make us proud and don't leave us shaking our heads! (Crosses fingers!)

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/2/2007 1:56:12 PM | Sox fans don't have a thing to worry about.
The yankees pitching staff isn't strong enough to stay with the sox. A-rod will probably walk off with A.L. MVP but that will be all the yanks have to crow about. Just my opinion.
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/2/2007 3:54:59 PM | According to today's papers, it's not A-Rod any more. It's F-Rod! lol Apparently, his wife wore a t-shirt with a not-so-nice F-You slogan on the back!

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/5/2007 3:09:44 PM | | lets go red sox......hell yes. we had our meltdown early...crossed fingers. the stanks have no pitching. roger isnt the answer he used to be. now!!! can we go through the playoffs. the tigers and indians scare me right now looking ahead. | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/5/2007 10:36:26 PM | | The BoSox are doing great!! Anyone heard anything on Mark Buehrle? Word is either Boston or the Tankees... err... Yankees. Rumors... ?? | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/18/2007 2:11:06 PM | | Unfortunately Buerle is still with the ChiSox. Beat the Indians today in fact. Well..any other sox fans around noticing that we look like a .500 team the last month or so?? MANNY and PAPI..WAKE UP lol! And can someone send Theo Epstein a fax, e-mail, letter, telegraph..whatever..to please find some way to lose Schilling (I know..the bloody sock..I know..but we do not need a 1978 retrospective LIVE) and send Tavarez back to the pen! | |

Boston 4-6 record NY - 8-2 record.
Gap is slowly closing. | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/19/2007 10:45:31 AM | | The Yankees are getting so close you can almost smell the stench...The Red Sox have been sitting in a pretty comfortable position so far this season....maybe they need a little reminder that they can't take any lead foregranted. I'm not sweating or biting my nails yet, but I don't want to see the gap getting any smaller. | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/19/2007 7:29:08 PM | After so many years,
its incredible that redsox fans carry such hope. I sat back at the beginning of every season for so many years being mocked by my Texas friends about the yankees getting a slow start, getting beat by low salarie teams and the controversies that occur every season with the yankees.
I sit back always smiling at my friends and telling them wait till the playoffs and all is said and done.
BTW. Yankees catching up to the redsox and winning the east.. Its getting old. But I do so relish in the pain of other rivals. See yall in October.

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/21/2007 9:52:05 PM | ,,heh,heh, heh, heh. No comment?
,,,I thought so.
Yankees 7.5 games back and closing in.

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/23/2007 7:17:20 AM | As a Yankee fan, I've viewed the first half of this season as a source of never-ending frustration. It was literally getting bad for my health to watch the team. Now, that things have stabilized, I'm a little nervous. I worry that the team will get my hopes up and then in the end brutally crush them all over again.
After going through the sundering heartbreak of 2001, 2004 and then our stunning early elimination last year, you would think I would be desensitized, but every year the Yankees find a fresh nerve of mine to blister.
But, for what its worth, I don't believe this Red Sox team to be championship-bound, and this is not out of knee-jerk denial. A rash of hidden weaknesses in both their lineup and their pitching will be their downfall, whether later in the regular season or in October.
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/24/2007 3:08:59 PM | | Well....re-joining the fray after a long stay away here. I just went through and read nearly the entire thread....some funny predictions early on, and the same old rhetoric through the rest. | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/24/2007 3:24:42 PM | On to this year... The Sox are indeed playing .500 ball right now. They are playing .500 ball while having dealt with injuries to: Schilling, Beckett, Wake, Youk, Lowell, Papi, Drew, Donnely, Crisp, Timlin and Pineiro (OK, Pineiro going down is a positive...). How did the Yanks fare when they were dealing with this many injuries? Hmmmmm, not so well, perhaps? I am a realistic fan. I knew the Yanks would make a run, make improvements (including getting healthier), and make another run. One run finished (shaved down the lead to 7.5), improvements in progress (getting healthy and trade deadline coming), and surely another run later this year (if the first one is even over...). Now...the Yanks are not the ONLY team getting healthier...Sox are, too. Ortiz will be back soon (though not in top form), their pitching is getting much healthier, and there is apparently some pitching depth now, too (can the Yanks say that?). In fact, I will be surprised if the Sox make a major move at the deadline. What or who would we bring in, and who do you trade? Wily Mo and Pineiro for some sort of depth, perhaps, but can't see much else happening. Overall, I still like the Sox' chances of finishing strong. Manny is getting hot (he is notorious for a torrid August/September..last year notwithstanding). Lugo and Crisp are the hottest hitters on the team (ANYBODY predict THAT?) with Drew seemingly finding a decent power stroke. Papi isn't hitting for the power we are used to, but is still hitting in the .325 range. A lineup adjustment may be in order, but no real lineup changes. As always, they need to drastically improve their RISP consistency. Pitching...? New rotation....Beckett, Matsuzaka (sorry, I HATE the Dice-K thing), Schilling, Gabbard/ Lester, Wakefield. Whichever is not the starter between Gabbard and Lester (he was unhittable in the first 4 innings last year) is long relief, along with Tavarez (teams batted around .200 in Tavarez' first time through the order). Lopez, Snyder, Timlin for middle relief, with Donnely coming off DL in August. Delcarmen and Okajima for right and left handed setup, and Papelbon to close. Is there a more complete pitching staff in MLB? Oh, BTW, pitching depth is just a AAA bus ride away in the case of injuries (Bucholz, Hansack, Breslow, Hughes...all with ERA's under 3.50 w/ over 50 innings pitched). I like our chances..... | |

i did...and was mercilessly mocked for it, even by red sox fans! lol I love Coco, I knew he would be great for this team if he could stay healthy for long enough (fingers crossed)
I'm not quite sure what to make of Drew right now though....Can he be THAT laid back or does he just not give a rat's ***?
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 7/26/2007 9:39:52 PM | | I haven't figured out Drew either. That seems to have been his problem so far, everywhere he goes...NOBODY has figured him out. He could become the highest paid fourth OF in MLB next year if Ellsbury continues to develop as he has. Then again, Ellsbury is the SECOND best OF on the PawSox.... | |
