| When they say Self Employed what does it really mean Posted: 3/12/2007 9:48:53 PM | | Rea , we are married to ourselves that is true, but knowing how hard it is, when we give ,we give it all; most of all respect for oneself. You may not get golfing, the Bahamas, dancing on Friday night.... but you get honesty. | |

btw.... why can't we have the golf, Bahamas and dancing, too??? Work is enjoyable but its like only having beef to eat. It's so much better when its sitting at a buffet table with so many other things to enjoy.

| Duh, uh,,,, duh.....ummmmm is that the cat asking? Posted: 3/13/2007 3:58:00 AM | Self employed means that you own the company, run the show... and it could mean that they are extremly weathly or weathly or just getting by, most "self employed" people make as money as they want to, it is all about motivation and being able to get it done! It takes alot to be self employed, you have to be marketer, collector, worker, supervisor, and quality control and everything. Anyone that wouldnt date someone self employed is an idiot in my opinion because there is so much freedom in being self employed, you can work hard for six months and travel for six months, and pay checks are going to be at least ten times as much if not more than some 9-5er, and gues what? most companies start with some person started a company and self employed. They hire a couple of people, then a few more, and then when success becomes too much to handle they hire more and more, and in this day and age, one or two great deals can make a self employed person a millionaire... so whenever a person always says "never" they are foolishly blocking themselves into a small box of 9-5rs that dont have the drive... or what it takes to make it all the way. To the people that say SE people dont have enough time??? Believe me, if they were interested, they would make time, so it could be that they felt you were boring, or trying to catch a free ride off of their back or what ever.... and all of the SE people I know make more than Dr.s and Lawyers and everyone except the corrupt ceos.... so Meouch, and no, that cat is not that cute, just looks like a regular cat, but this is not a cat dating site, I really dont get that, posting a photo of a cat, flower, dog (ok, well I can the pet with the person picture) but to represent yourself to the world as a animal that goes to the bathroom in a sand box, sleeps eighteen to twenty hours a day and is aloof, only shows affection when they want food doesnt seem like that would be much of an attraction, unless you are looking for a date for your pet...
that is JMO
It is a very talented person that can be and stay "self employed" BL

| When they say Self Employed what does it really mean Posted: 3/13/2007 4:23:34 AM | | It means that they are self-employed or unemployed. I have never met a successful self-employed person. Apparently everyone else has, so I will trust them to know what they are talking about. The people I know claiming self-employment lie around and watch TV and smoke dope all day. Anyway, I have to run. Got to go make sure I didn't list "self-employed" as my profession on my profile. | |

| When they say Self Employed what does it really mean Posted: 3/13/2007 5:47:20 AM | | "Self Employed" After 20 years of being self employed, (building contractor). I can't have a "real" job. I am too independant, I like variety, Sometimes I get 0 days a week off, sometimes I get weeks off. I am every thing from a workaholic, to a sled dog,(see dog that rides on sled, not pulling it). The two greatest tax shelters in the United States; Home ownership,(luckily there were two of them when we divorced) and self employment. I love my children deeply, they are 3rd on the list of write offs.Ha Ha Ha I enjoy working for what I get, the children were the funnest part of the efforts. I like my job, when I get ahead financially, I enjoy other pursuits between projects. I get more two week vacations a year than I deserve. There is always a down side though, "stress". No one to blame things on but yourself. Self employed people tend to be intelligent, very hands on,personally motivated, creative, confident,,,, are there any more psychotic Capricorns out there? | |

| When they say Self Employed what does it really mean Posted: 3/13/2007 6:34:16 AM | | Someone once cautioned me that "self employed" people often have issues. They can't work with others, i.e., lack social skills, can't get along, can't hold onto a 'normal' job, etc. | |

Some may, some may not want to put up with the Corporate BS that is found in so many companies. I personally got sick and tired of helping others to build their business, pittance raises and loosing my position each time I had a child before the current Family Laws were passed. I worked for major law firms, Fortune 500 companies, CPA's and small businesses and guess what-majority of them treated their workers like crap-regardless of their size or clout.
After the birth of my 2nd child, I went back to school to finish my certifications in specific areas and made the decision that no one was ever going to tell me again I couldn't be home when my child broke his arm or had other medical emergencies. BTW I always held administrative/management type positions, was very well liked and got rave reviews...just never got the money or respect that I should have.
I happen to be very lucky in that I love my work most days, therefore, it doesn't always feel like work ; but like every type of work has both negative and positives.... some days I don't like my work -who can I complain to?-The boss?

| When they say Self Employed what does it really mean Posted: 3/13/2007 12:58:21 PM | Many, many and I mean many companies hire 1099/Independent contractors for a lot (and usually illegal) reasons. Technically these people are self-employed. Many sales professionals (insurance, real estate, software, etc... are independent contractors. Many men do also own their own construction biz or are independent jobbers for other companies. Take a little time chatting to find out what the guys does. If it sounds shady, move on. If not--it's all good. Plus they typically have more freedom over their work schedule.
Good Luck | |

| In my case... Posted: 3/13/2007 1:52:03 PM | | It means I own my own business and the buck stops with me......sort of most of the bucks stop somewhere else.....but I am the man who has to find where they stop... | |

| When They say self employed, what does it really mean Posted: 3/13/2007 2:38:58 PM | I got so tired of making other people their millions with my talents. So I started to do my own thing. With the internet age and proliferation of computers, I make my own hours, and pick and choose my clients. When my daughter is on spring break for a week, I take the week off and have fun with her. No boss telling me he's docking my pay, or fear of being replaced. It allows me the time to do all that I enjoy, while still making money, and being gainfully unemployed. hehe

| When they say Self Employed what does it really mean Posted: 3/13/2007 3:36:50 PM | I am self-employed and have been for about 10 years now. I worked for a company spending 2 weeks in 4 away from home (which ultimately cost me a relationship) before realising the company I worked for needed me more than I needed them.
I worked long hours getting my business off the ground but it paid off I can now choose when and where I work, I'm not a workaholic and am better off financially than I've ever been. I can take a holiday when I want ( albeit with some planning but I'm not limited to factory close down dates or fitting in round co-employees).
Yes some people use the 'self employed' label to cover a multitude of sins but hey there are devious people of both sexes.
The genuine people on here are on here looking for friends or partners; take the trouble to chat to someone, isn't it really all about communication? Seems a bit strange to me that you'd ignore someone for being self employed! Mail & chat till you're comfortable to meet then use your judgement. I'd take exception to someone wanting to go through my finances with a fine tooth comb (unless we were really committed) but wouldn't have a problem discussing any concerns they may have about me.
On a final note I have to say that being in a low paid job isn't a crime. For me (at least) it's about who you are rather than what you have or haven't got!

Just a little curious when men state they are "self-employed"
In my case it just means self-employed. As in I have to file a Schedule C with my tax return. If I really thought I had something to hide, I'd leave that self-employed part off.
|
| When they say Self Employed what does it really mean Posted: 3/13/2007 6:08:31 PM | Wow.. I think of self employed.... as self employed! Where someone has ambition to go out on their own and not have a boss! Someone that files a schedule C or has an S corp or C Corp!
Thanks for the lesson on AKA Loser! LOL no I won't believe that....

| When they say Self Employed what does it really mean Posted: 3/13/2007 6:33:36 PM | | some of us are self employed, I was painter for 25 years, amd there some of us that has low paying jobs like me right now. I had a knee replaced, i am unable to climb, or vol as a fireman any more. so be carefull. | |

| When they say Self Employed what does it really mean Posted: 3/13/2007 6:40:11 PM | Here is another reason why i really dig the self employement.' I recently received a paycheck from a company ...Let's call them VPA , who docked my finally pay by $320. The reason? they claimed the pto time taken a few weeks before I left that position was not authorize? not accrued? funny I had accrued it on my pay check? They also claimed that my pto was used during "snow days" that the corporation was supposed to pay us for.So the bottom line is the corporation is attempting to steal money from the little man.
so, yes i am self employeed and i plan to stay that way for a very long time.
self employement rocks....working for someone else sucks.

Just a little curious when men state they are "self-employed"........my take on it is that they are unemployed or have a low paying job that they are embarrassed to say. The self employed statement just is a catch all for hiding the real truth. What do you think?
It means they mow lawns , recycle aluminum cans, and sell stuff on e-bay for a living. You should definitely write them off without asking them for more detail about their profile.

At least that's better than hanging out on a dating site where you are afraid to put up your picture lest your wife finds out.
You should definitely write them off without asking them for more detail about their profile.
Ditto for the pictureless married guys.

Oh you nailed that one! No way in hell can they actually be their own boss. It probably means they are married and addicted to drugs as well.

| When they say Self Employed what does it really mean Posted: 3/13/2007 8:22:52 PM | | I have dated two self employed men. One was EXTREMELY financially....comfortable, shall we say. The other was only a bit below that level. They were also very intelligent, dedicated, hard working.........yeah, had a lot of really good qualities. I would certainly think twice before passing on someone because they work for themselves. | |
