new fangled fad You are right Dante - this is simply all the good in life bundled up in a tight little package and marketed to make money !!! What I would say to people is that all of this is in you - most instilled since childhood - simply pull all your positive from inside and around you and you have the secret already - without the pricetag!!! Oh and perhaps look to your spiritual side!!

| The Secret Posted: 3/15/2007 12:54:05 PM | The movie was filled with briliant Ideas on positive thinking and focusing, but the movies downfall was what this change was geared towards. The movie was mostly based on superfical wants and needs and was always talking about wanting more our of life and getting more. A car, a house getting out of debt etc etc. Sure those things are all nice, but not even close to what makes a person happy.
Think about everything you ever really wanted in your life that was material. How many things as a child did you just go crazy for. Now, honestly most people can not tell me one of those things they would have that they still appreciate. Life is not about a novelty, if you base it on that you will just keep wanting something new and better. Everything material is taken for granted, just on different time frames and will have almost no impact on your state of mind and your overall happyness once the novelty wears off. The movie showed these things as the answer to people's problems.

| The Secret Posted: 3/15/2007 1:01:24 PM | Dante you typical Canadian you....We are a nation of cynics.
'The Secret' is all about being the antidote to cynicism. Cynics love rhetorical arguments (don't take offense I'm a long time cynic myself).....rather than putting forth their own ideas cynics love to parse the ideas of others and look for the flaws. We Canuks are great cynics, we love comparing ourselves to the US and then looking at all the ways we're better.
Imagine taking responsibility for every aspect of one's life??? Scary notion....sure we love to take credit for the good stuff. But the bad stuff??? Ahhhh, that's because of so and so or 'those guys'....if it wasn't for them everything would be perfect. That's the hard part of what 'The Secret' teaches....
Most know about the 7 habits of success or about the 'Power of Positive Thinking'...but I don't recall those works teaching that life is the creation of one's own thoughts and emotions. There's a quasi religiousness to "The Secret" that resonates with me....Ask and your question shall be answered, seek and ye shall find, knock and the door will be opened.

| The Secret Posted: 3/15/2007 1:33:21 PM | ^^^^^ the real SECRET IS...u are paying for something we already know.....u just have to think about it a lil bit....COMMON SENSE. | |
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/15/2007 3:26:29 PM | Ahhhhh the joys of being a cynic....find others who are happy and pleased with their choices, then try and make them feel stupid.
People who pay hundreds of dollars a year on cable, health clubs, restaraunts, movies...you name it...disparaging others for spending money on something because they don't see the value. $30 for 'The Secret' in my books is better than $30 spent on any of those other things.
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/15/2007 4:37:22 PM | What i am saying is...do u really need a book to tell u about positive thinking....believing in yourself....its not really a secret is all im saying...if u are happy with making someone rich when u already know the secret to improving your life....its determination, hard work, self belief, positive thinking.....maybe the $ would be better used if its donated to charity. | |

Not all of us are wired the same way there are many different facets to each person. Some people have been ridiculed since birth, unwanted, unloved and constantly being told they are no good. Life altering situations !!!!!!!!!!!! that can either keep you that way or lead you that way. I say if spending $30.00 on a movie helps you to get that back in your life then go for it!!!!!!!!!!
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/15/2007 7:50:44 PM | Whether you believe in the "Law of Attraction" as they put it, or not... the points regarding your thought processes are worth their weight in gold.
If more people were able to see how positive thinking can change their lives, we wouldn't need nearly as many psychologists as we do now. If you believe you can do something, that's really all it takes to accomplish it. I have had so many things happen to support my goals, seemingly random and out of nowhere, to not believe in the philosophy found in the movie.
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/15/2007 7:55:19 PM | ^^^ very well said lfrl, very well said ^^^
The law of attraction, (I meld in intention and expectation)...I believe it is very powerful. I now believe that EVERY thought and emotional response I have, that with it I am sending out waves into the universe. And in sending out those waves I am attracting back that which I've sent out in kind.
This goes far beyond the simplistic "think positively" stuff most already know about. I think it can apply here at POF. Basically the "Law of Attraction" says we attract what we fixate on, EVEN THE STUFF WE DO NOT WANT!!!
How many people here in their profiles say what they do not want? TONS!!! No drama, no game players, no this...no that. The Law of Attraction doesn't differentiate between what we want or do not want...we start attracting the stuff we don't want when we fixate on it.

My daughter and I watched this together (she's 16 yrs old). She applied for a great job a couple days after watching it, she applied all principles of the Secret to this prospective job - 5 days later she found out that she got the it
My daughter has had a rough go the last couple of years with bad choices and consequences to match. I'm going to take the advice of most of you positive viewers and watch this with her by my side. It can only help right?

| The Secret Posted: 3/16/2007 4:36:22 AM | I havent seen it, but heard of it...and will get a friends copy to watch it....
I read some of the posters saying its in you already to be positive and its common sense...I agree, its in all of us...but if you dont take the first steps to improve what YOU think is lacking in your life ( money, relationship, inner peace ) then, no matter what video, cd or speakers....it will not work!
I used teach positive thinking at a corporate level...companies would pay 1.5k per person to sit in the course/s....then I would do is a follow up in 3 months and 6 months to see if they are hitting their targets and goals for the company and for some, their personal life.......I observed the ones that were hitting their targets and goals already came in my course pre positive and movtivated....so they WANTED to learn and apply the course that was offer to them and ones that thought "what a waste of money" well you know how they faired.
So the bottom line....if you are looking to improve yourself....you have really nothing to lose, accept a few bucks or if you work for a company that offers free courses...take them...even if they fall on your personal time.
Positive thinking starts with you, but their are tools that help you, movtivate you to reach your goals.

| The Secret Posted: 3/16/2007 6:49:10 AM | | Looks like I will have to see this movie as well. I love watching inspirational movies. Gives me more drive and determination. I am all for improving my life and my childrens' lives to the best of my ability. | |
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/16/2007 6:59:44 AM | I wasn't saying people shouldn't watch it. I was asking a simple question regarding the values the movie instill's. Always good to be taught to be positive and hard working. Nothing wrong with that. I was just questioning the notion that this was a new concept is all.
I remember growing up my father would watch a guy who would come on Public Television. His name was Dr' Leo Buscaglia. He was one of these guys who talked aboutt eh power of positive thinking. I thought he was a quack, hugging everyone and talking about mushy stuff....
Now tha tI am older, I can appreciate where he was coming from. I am not trying to discourage anyone from buying the Secret. Noella, I hope it helps you and your daughter. If it does then that's all that matters.

| The Secret Posted: 3/16/2007 12:19:35 PM | No worries Dante...You sound like you're very positive and upbeat anyway, which at the core basic level...that's what "The Secret" is really all about.
Most people (including myself) I find have built in negativity that's been ingrained. You hear it all the time...how many people have heard or even repeated these old saws:
This is too good to last.....No good deed goes unpunished....Anything that can go wrong will go wrong....It's all fun 'n games til somebody loses an eye....Bad luck comes in threes
Realizing that negative thinking is not only depressing, but self fulfilling....it's an important lesson. People who say 'bad luck comes in threes'....they're often waiting for the next bad thing....and bingo, they get exactly what they were expecting, more misfortune. Of course after the 3rd, they'll say..'ahhh that's the end' and again their expectations are met.
For those of a religious bent I love the 'living in gratitude' lesson. Waking up each morning and giving thanks for all the good that surrounds us puts us into a better frame of mind and makes us more open to receiving more good.
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/16/2007 2:24:51 PM | I have watched it about three times and it makes a lot of sense. I have read quite a few books which have changed my way of thinking to accept that I am responsible for all that happens in my life, whether it is possitive or negative, it does make sense that I somehow attract it to myself.
For some of you it is very obvious. Good for you! you are very gifted. Some of you call it drive; others call it focus or working hard, and you would be right. Because to me, drive comes once you have very clear in your mind what it is you want. Once you have visualized it, and seen yourself having what you are setting your mind to, then you go and get it, and nothing stops you from getting it.
On the other hand, there are some of us, like me, who had a strong "traditional", "religious" upbringing, where the last thing you learn is to be in control of your life, where you fear God for every thing you do, because you might be punished, where you blame everone and everything else but yourself for the events that occur in your life.... For me it has not been easy to shift my thinking into a more possitive, freeing mentality, where I am in control of what happens in my life, where I understand that possitive attracts possitive and negative attracts negative, where it makes sense that I first need to feel and act happy to receive the things that would make me happy and not the other way around... I would not have been able to do it without reading books like The Monk who sold his Ferrari, Conversations with God, What The Bleep, and the latest, watching The Secret. And if the authors made some money sharing a wisdom that I did not have, then good for them!

| The Secret Posted: 3/16/2007 5:39:19 PM | I just purchased the book last week at Costco - $16.99.
I haven't had a chance to begin reading it yet, though I've heard many discussions about it. someone said 'it's no different than what's written in the Bible. it's just written in modern day lingo'.
I don't know ...
seems common sense of me. I think the idea is to get yourself into that frame-of-mind and be able to stay there .....
I like the idea of waking up each morning and "placing my order"

it's not spirituality, it's not some mystic power, it's not faith The book isn't about spirituality, mystical power, or faith...it's about believing in yourself and gives great tips on ways to make things happen in your life. A lot of people sit back and wait for the good, if this helps them achieve it, so what?
The worst thing that could happen from this book is that it doesn't make all of us millionaires, but if it makes any of us believe in ourselves more, what's the big deal?

| The Secret Posted: 3/16/2007 8:39:01 PM | I work in an environment that runs on the principals of "The Secret"
I watched the Video with my 15 yr old and she was writing things down faster than they were saying them.. she got it, she now understands the laws of attraction.
I wonder if this would be a great thing to show youngsters and see what they think?
My 15 yr old has since then watched the Video 5 times now and every time she comes to see me to discuss what she has learned. For her it was positive. My 14 yr old daughter hasnt seen it yet! I hope she gets it.. Nothing more incredible than being positive.

| The Secret Posted: 3/16/2007 10:15:03 PM | Dont know if posting links here will cause issue or not, but rather than buying it I know I've seen quite a few websites showing it for free. I have watched parts of it, but to me it seemed to be a lot of hype to say life is better if you have a positive attitude. After too much talk about it I had to at least look though. If this link isn't good for anyone, just google "watch the secret free on the web" and lots of matches come up. http://www.universallawstoday.com/secret.html | |
