My workplace is also incorporating the principles of "The Secret" blueeyed_cutie..and it can only help. We often talk about lobsters....when you boil lobsters in a pot they'll climb over each other trying to get out, the end result being they end up pushing others down until they get near the lid when they are then pushed down in turn. Another way to look at it is with the saying "misery loves company".

There are many...far too many...who, when presented with something life affirming and positive, they'll seek out the flaws. It helps justify their own world view and at the same time gives them a sense of moral and intelletual superiority.

What they're really saying is:
"You're too dumb to see it, but I on the other hand...being of superior intellect, I can tell that you're being fooled"

This being a message board on a dating site...I can tell you right now, we're 'the blind leading the blind'. I doubt there are many (if any) who feel that they've achieved success is every facet of their life. Some however will try to convince themselves that they have...or they'll rationalize any failings so as to avoid taking ultimate responsibility. That's something many people excel at....The successes? Oh yes...I'm the author of all my life's successes. But the failures??? No, they're not MY fault....it's because of him/her/them. Actually, I'm better off not having everything I want...yeah, cause I'm happy with what I have. Sure it may not be everything I want, but it's enough so I'm doing okay.

My opinion...if you have $30 that you'd spend on a movie, gambling, booze...or any other consumer product/service that's just out there to make $$$$....then I'd highly reccomend giving "The Secret" a look see if you're at all dissatisfied with your life and if you're maybe looking for ways to make things better.

The "lobsters"...they're happy with their current lot by the sound of things. God bless 'em.

I purchased a copy of the Secret Three months ago, it is a very inspiring movie. What most people don't know is the movie is based on Wallace Wattles 1910 classic The Science Of getting Rich. If you liked the movie, then the book is a must read. For those of you who have watched it, at the beginning Rhonda Bryne received a book from her daughter, and that book was The Science Of getting Rich. You can get a free e book from this sitehttp://www.scienceofgettingrich.net/index.html, or you can buy it at Chapters for $14. For those of you who wish to own your own copy, the best place to get it is at the secret official website, because when you buy it there, you get all kinds of free extras.http://thesecret.tv/home.html. It has been working for me. I wrote myself a check for $8,400, and dated it 8 weeks in advance. Six weeks later I received a check for $8,000 from a totally unecpected source. I believe, and if you do to, and follow the principles in the book, and movie, great things will happen. Like attracts like, so only think about the things you want, and don't dwell on the things you don't want.

I bought "The Secret" on CD and I bought the book. I listen to the CD when I'm driving and I use the book so that I can quick reference the good bits. I can guarantee it works. Someone brought up that it seems to be all about getting material possessions, and yes, I think it seems that way, too. It focuses a lot on getting money, a car, a house, etc. But those are things that the average working adult would like to have in order to enhance their life. They aren't necessities, for the most part, but they help us to be more satisfied.

I can guarantee that this works. 2 weeks ago, I couldn't even pull up the jeans I'm wearing right now. They fit and they are even a slight bit baggy. I have been losing weight, by using the methods in "The Secret". I have watched what I eat and have been exercising. Some may say "well, that's you doing it, not the book". Nope. If it's just me, why couldn't I do it before? Why did I start diets and always fail? I honestly don't see me stopping this. I am on a roll (pardon the pun). I can say right now, with no apprehension, that this is "The Secret" working for me. It's helping me. Even if it's just that it gave me more confidence, it's working.

I have seen the movie and read the book. It's just another and newer version of how to think positively. Norman Vicent Peale wrote a book many, years ago called "The Power of Positive Thinking." The Secret is similar to this book and touches on the same topic of positive thinking to achieve the things you want in life. It's definitely good to think positive in life. It will attract good things in life. Better the thinking negatively.

I think the only thing that was not really touched on in the movie was the fact that you have to take some kind of action to make some of the things you wish for to become reality. The idea of just wishing for something as was shown in the movie and all of a sudden it became reality, is a little decieving.

Just wanting and not taking action is not going to work. Yes , it begins with positive thinking for sure, but it's up to the individual to go out there and make it happen.

"The Secret" seemed to focus on some magical power of getting what you want. Just think about it , and look at pictures of what you want and they will show up in your life. In reality it takes a positive attitude, determination and action taking that get's you what you want in life.

Definitely use the book or movie to inspire you, but your the one who makes it happen.

I agree here. There will be people who think that they can quit their job and just sit back and imagine everything coming to them. I really believe that it's just a matter of working your karmic energy and being more positive. I mentioned the weight loss I've experienced, but don't get me wrong, it's been ME doing it, but I credit the book for giving me the gumption and drive to go for it.

Did anyone catch the article on the front page of yesterday's Toronto Star? Given the journalistic bent there was more than a fair degree of cynicism in the article...but that's an occupational hazzard for newspaper reporters I suspect.

I think it's more than a bit simplistic to say it's just a matter of wishing for something and having it magically appear. I think it's more a matter of tapping what Tony Robbins calls 'The Power Within". Sure...we all have the ability to change our lives: improve our health/fitness, handle finances better, develop more meaningful and lasting relationships etc....But we get in our own way and don't get the things we want.

The Secret isn't new, all the books mentioned and a host of others all speak to the same thing...but until we reprogram our thinking towards life's possibilities instead of the obstacles...then we'll keep attracting what we've been attracting.

In Genesis 1:26 it says:
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

My appologies to those not familiar with the Bible, this is the faith tradition in which I was raised so I understand Biblical liturgy better than other faiths, but I'm sure it's in Islam, Hinduism, Budhism...and tons of other 'isms'.

I was taught to externalize God....I had to connect to "Him". I've come to the belief that I already have an element of the Divine within my very own being...as does everyone else. It's merely a matter of 'going home' and reconnecting as it were with the Divine that is out there in the universe. The overriding message in 'The Secret' for me is that my life is supposed to be ABUNDANT. Over the course of my 40 years however I've been taught to see obstacles instead of opportunities....basically a trained cynic. I'm unlearning all that garbage and I'm already a happier person for it.

Religious sinner: "I've been taught to see obstacles instead of opportunities" Me too until very recently" I have some major hurdles that I am overcoming with such surprising strength ( I didn't even know I had it). After watching the secret and seeing the powerful message, meditation and prayer I am stronger than I have ever been. Ain't nothing gonna hold me back from what I deserve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I happened to drop by "Chapters" this morning, just to see if they had "The Secret" in stock. A gentleman browsing the same self help section, on noticing what I was looking at, couldn't help but enthuse on the book and the dvd. He started to tell me how he had first discovered the book in January and felt it was quite exceptional. He went on to recommend a couple of other books for future reading. Whilst we were talking a lady joined us, looking also for the book/dvd and she commented how she had heard so many good things about it from friends and relatives that she couldn't wait to get it herself.

Seems like "The Secret" wont be a secret for much longer!

Heading off to stick my nose in the book for a few hours over a nice hot latte...I'll let you know what I think!

Well the real secret here is how many people are buying this book and or CD as it is sure making the authors rich ,now theres an idea lets write something about positive thinking ,something everyone already knows about and see just how much money we can make with our supoosed secrets .

If you are a positive thinker then you can accomplish pretty much anything you put your mind to ,i don't think i would be maki9ng some other smuck rich by buying into there ideas of somethings that we already know ,just my opinion .

edit .............I trully understand we are all differant and that is why i said just my opinion ,it was in no way to infere anything to others and you are correct some of us do need an extra push now and then and more power to anyone that seeks out the help they need .

Also no wherwe in my post did i call anyone an idiot ,you can take what i said as you choose but like i stated above i was not infering anything to anyone just my own opinions that i am entitled to as are you .

Thanks bash...so what your saying is that, "in your opinion" I'm an idiot for making these schmucks rich?

Thanks, it's obvious you already understand 'The Secret' and how wonderful it is when people are uplifting and positive. So many people will look at things and try to find the negative. Glad you understand and are looking for the positives...

lfrl : Did you get into Jack's book yet?

I've been giving copies to people who are impressed by The Secret.

Two of them said The Secret is much clearer to them now.

I call Jack's book an instruction manual.

One a personal note: I lost my wife, kids, business, houses and cars along with my physical and mental health 20 years ago. Getting from there to the hapy place I'm in now was hell!

But now, I can say: it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Until then, I was only going thru the motions of life. After, I learned that my one and only life was my job and I'd better think of it as so if I wanted great things to happen.

Keep learning.
Keep growing.
And you'll get there...one step at a time.

Good luck on your new journey!

It's all in altering your perspective and finding, as Oprah refers to it as, an Aha moment. Sometimes someone has a way of wording something that resonates with you and provides the motivation for change. For example, I have tried to quit smoking countless times, failing at every turn. I read a book by Dr Alan Carr, which completely changed my mindset, and I literally threw out my pack and have not smoked in over 3 months. Just like that, because how he worded things resonated with me and altered my thought processes. This does the same thing for people. It will assist some, not others, but I feel anything one can take in that betters out lives is a good thing. I am actually attending the Learning Annex in Toronto with Donald Trump, The Secret's James Ray and Tony Robbins. I have never had the opportunity to see Tony Robbins live but he is such an incredible motivator I know I will take something away from the experience. Anyone else going?

It's only $114 (incl tax) for the entire weekend, including Keynote speakers! I think for two solid days it's worthwhile - two hours of Trump and 3 of Tony Robbins is more than worth it. But I hear you - that is exactly why someone like yourself SHOULD attend!

I read through this thread, and I such varying attitudes to this book and it's theories.... why are so many threatened by it? Some say it is stuff from our childhood... according to most research, children hear many more "nos" than "yeses" by the age of four - the most formative years of life.... so, if you got all the positive in childhood, you had a very unusual childhood.

It is not just about "thinking positive"... it is also about turning negatives into a positive. For example: you got laid off, and are now unemployed... you can choose to be negative and angry with your previous employer, or you can look at it as an opportunity to find the job of your dreams, go back to school, do the stuff around the house you never had the time for before, etc.... but make the negative into a positive. As the movie said, you have to FEEL it... BELIEVE it too... not just mouth the words, and think and feel differently in your heart. Do I think it works???...... I have seen it work so many times, hard not to believe it.

I'm going to check it out..

Just some facts..

* By 2020 Depression will be the second largest cause of disability next to heart disease world wide for both sexes and all age groups.. it already is for some sects.

*The market experiencing the largest growth for Antidepressants is the Preschooler market

*80% of the people you see in a doctors office are depressed (depression often manifests is self in the body so you go to the doctor to get treated for it)

*Youth suicide is the 2nd largest killer of kids (10-24) in Canada

*Youth suicide in the U.S has tripped in the last decade wile adult suicide has dropped

I'm down with any thing that stand for positive thinking... and if the barer of that message gets rich.. then let that be enragement .. its better then making money off of fear which so many companies do.
