I don't think it's that people are threatened...I think it's just more of the negative thinking you talk about it. Some people will always see obstacles no matter what happens, a product of upbringing. You tell someone they're going on a vacation for a weekend to Québec City and they'll complain that they're gonna waste 10 hours in a car getting and that just makes the gas companies rich.
Whaddyer gonna do??? I think it's best to smile and nod...and ignore them :-) They're happy in their misery so let them enjoy it in solitude.

| The Secret Posted: 3/20/2007 10:03:53 PM | Whoa, whoa and double whoa....
I've been something of an advocate for 'The Secret' on this thread...Somewhat??? Pfffffft, I've been a big advocate. But looking at that linked site pwdrsgr...ugh, I don't like what I'm seeing.
$30 or so...that's reasonable in my opinion given the $$$ that we fork out each month for things like eating out, coffees, cable and all manner of other discretionary items. But this site is talking about a "The Secret SGR Briefcase"...The cost??? $2,000!!!
Sorry...but I've got to go on a bit of rant here:
This is starting to sound like religion and snake oil to me. Organized religion has managed to hoodwink hundreds of millions of people world wide into the belief that their salvation is in the hands of others...BULLCRAP!!! I can just see people viewing guys like Bob Proctor, Jack Canfield, Rev. Michael Beckwith and others involved with this...viewing them the same way some view some of the world's religious leaders.
The whole thing about "The Secret" is that the power is within EACH INDIVIDUAL!!! The message is great, and I truly believe it. BUT...big BUT the power doesn't rest with any of these so called 'teachers' it rests within each and every individual.
I'll even go so far as to say this...anyone (IMO) dumb enough to toss $2,000 into what appears to me a fancy pyramid scheme...IMO they don't get "The Secret" at all. Why??? Because, they're externalizing what is an internal force...
It's late...not much of a rant....but I want to stress something. I do believe in the teachings contained within in "The Secret" dvd...absolutely. But handing over $2,000 is just plain crazy in my opinion (don't get me started on the thinly disguised pyramid scheme).
Why is it crazy??? Because you have to do it yourself, and the people most desperate for money will be the ones pumping millions into these guys bank accounts believing that the power is with guys like Bob Proctor...that they have to learn to be like him or one of the other so called "teachers". Uh uh...no way, they know and understand the law of attraction as it applies to them. Each person if they embark on this has to learn how to manifest it in themselves.
If you're of a Christian bent think of it this way.....Jesus said that "faith" can move a mountain. When a man came to him seeking healing for his servant Jesus said to him, 'YOUR faith has made him well'. I honestly believe Jesus' true message was perverted by THE CHURCH in an effort to gain wealth and power. And frankly, it looks to me like these guys are trying to do the same thing.

| The Secret Posted: 3/20/2007 11:26:17 PM | I don't know if I believe that that is an official website for "The Secret" and I have my doubts that it is affiliated, actually. It is absolutely a pyramid scheme setup. Unfortunately, there are people naive enough to fall for it.

|
| The Secret Posted: 3/21/2007 6:00:51 AM | That isn't the official site...try www.thesecret.tv/home.html....but either way, as with most things in life, you take what you need, what is appropriate and what "speaks to you"...and you move on.
The message behind 'The Secret' for me was the power of positive thinking. It made sense, it resonated within me. That's enough for me to move forward. Belief in self.
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/21/2007 8:35:59 AM | You're right Bridget, it's three of the "teachers" from 'The Secret' dvd...Proctor, the Chicken Soup guy and the Reverend.
Obviously they're just piggy backing on the popularity of 'The Secret'....it still grates, because you just know the people who will buy into this...by and large it'll be those who can least afford it. That's half the problem people have I think, they don't understand and truly believe that the power lies within....instead they're looking for answers from others.
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/22/2007 4:46:56 PM | I never even thought of the $2000 part, actually i just signed up for those free 7 lessons or whatever they were that they send you by email. Didnt mean for it to promote the "pyramid Scheme" they promote at the bottom. Sorry about that! Have a Great Day! | |
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/22/2007 5:05:29 PM | | I'll just stick to the DVD for the odd time I need a little refresher to give me that boost ...I don't see how spending wads of cash on a seminar is going to be any different than just popping the movie into my DVD player to give myself a little pep talk. How much more of the Secret can they devulge? You have to find it within yourself. The DVD just reminds me of that once every so often. | |
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/22/2007 7:02:54 PM | I read the book...Pretty fast reading, and I will admit a lot of it is as hokey as you can get. Visualize your hands and then see them around the steering wheel of your new car. There is a lot of times in it you suspense disbelief. I know it fosters the power of positive thinking, but some people are going to think they can get riches by visualizing or thinking it, and go out and buy expensive things, and believe "The Secret" will take care of the debt through thought and visualization. This sort of book can be dangerous in many ways. If it gives some people solace, hope and peace of mind, fine, but you cannot give people a message that you can get everything you want through some secret agenda and live happily ever after. Leave that for fairy tales, because this is what the book represents. | |

| The Secret Posted: 3/22/2007 8:00:02 PM | I think you're both right and wrong Phoenix...because I do believe this stuff. With your user name, Phoenix....that's ancient mytholgy right there that speaks to something I consider to be an eternal truth. The Phoenix rising from the ashes, Horus/Prometheus/Jesus defeating death. It's spring time now, when we see signs of rebirth everywhere.
I totally agree with you about not going out and buying a bunch of stuff you can't afford in the belief that the law of attraction will bring the money to pay for it to you. But I do believe that getting clear on one's goals and visualizing them....even pretending you already own that new car you want...I think this can work. I don't think the car will 'magically' appear, but I think the motivation derived from "deciding" that you're going to have it...that a person will find a way to earn the money needed to buy it.
A lot of the time people...including your's truly, we complicate things unneccessarily...Why? Because people expect failure and it's easy to justify failing at something that's difficult. You see it on the basketball court all the time...a guy has a clear lane to the bucket but opts to launch a 20 foot jump shot...if he makes it GREAT, but if he misses...ah well, that's a hard shot. Rather than looking at all the reasons why we can't succeed we need to focus in on the reasons we can....
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/22/2007 8:23:05 PM | Sinner you do make some good points. I do think that people have to believe in their own positives and the power of positive thinking can work wonders. That is not new age, that is an old concept that wasn't it Dale Carnegie originated? If we think we won't make that basket or score that goal in hockey, we won't. Now just because we do focus on it and miss, means we have to try harder the next time around. I really think the book has simplified life's hurdles and problems into making it seem if we visualize it we get it, without working hard to get it or striving harder to achieve that goal to claim the prize. Yes we can get a new car, but just thinking it will not make it magically pop up in our driveway tomorrow. The fact the book says, " To attract money, focus on wealth....It is helpful to use your imagination and make-believe you already have the money you want......Feeling happy now is the fastest way to bring money into your life.....Make it your intention to look at everything you like and say to yourself, "I can afford that. I can buy that.'....Visualize checks in the mail......" etc etc.... This in itself is harmful not helpful. As are many of the other chapters that present anything you want through thought and positive vibes...... Things like that get too many people into debt, the endless credit and spending sprees that ruin lives. If the book wanted to make its mark, it can spout hope instead of doom and gloom, but its advice must be founded in fact not fiction, and simply saying visualize a check in the mail is like the Visa credit card ads where they show fantasy scenarios and say, "If life were like that you wouldn't need Visa." Well if life were like were the utopian dream world where The Secret resides, then all of us would live happily ever after and there were be no misery, poverty, doubt, sadness etc. Reality does rear its ugly head and no "secret" can give up total happiness without hitting the speed bumps of misery and misfortune along the way. And yes the Phoenix did rise from its ashes, and was born again, and that was overcoming adversity and death, but we are not all like the Phoenix able to create new lives through 200 pages in some book. I must ad that if Oprah did not publicize the book as she did, it would have not achieved the fame it has. It was published last year and not until she gave it her blessing did it really go through the roof sales wise. | |

| The Secret Posted: 3/22/2007 8:50:34 PM | | In the opening lines of "The Secret" it is mentioned that 4% of the world's population own 96% of the wealth. These fortunate few know the "secret". Not very generous are they? It has been said that if just 1% of the world's wealthiest nations' GDP was donated to the third world, the effect would be enourmous. But the Nike Corps of the Western World will have none of that. They feel quite comfortable using sweat shop labour in the Third World and then making enormous profits in the process. There is absolutely nothing wrong with visualizing and positive thinking, but did Dr. Martin Luther King make the progress he did in a couple of weeks...or did it take a groundswell of courageous people, blood, sweat and tears and eventually the sacrifice of his own life to to make these achievements possible? But he did say ('Yes, I have a dream...). If you want, folks, check out an excellent article on 'Salon.com" on this subject. It's not completely one sided and is well written. Cheers! | |

True...but not as easy as it sounds.
Reading this thread you get the impression everyone knows this stuff right? How come I still see miserable people all the time then??? Actually...I notice I'm seeing less and less of them thankfully, but they're still out there.
The DVD talks about putting out a positive vibration or vibe...so that the universe will respond and you will attract positives back to you. What emotions are associated with being positive?
Love, Gratitude, Joy, Passion, Happiness, Expectation, Satisfaction, Hope.
Ask yourself this...How many times each day do you feel joy, passion, happniess etc? I would challenge anyone reading this that there are many days where you don't feel any of these, operating more or less on auto pilot. I would venture that most people would find it easier identifying times when they feel negative emotions of:
Stress, Anger, Resentment, Jealousy, Vengance.....
The DVD talks about taking time to count ones blessings to help get you in the right frame of mind...for those of a religious bent it might be called, "GIVING THANKS". Someone who is happy for what they have, as opposed to angry and resentful...they're going to be sending out positive waves into the universe. If you believe in the 'Law of Attraction' then it's easy to see why most don't attract the things they want.

| The Secret Posted: 3/23/2007 12:25:34 PM | I'm 1/3 of the way through the book and will be watching the movie this weekend. Also, just listened to lesson 1 & 2 of 8 in The Masters of The Secret series. Powerful and wise philosphy. The Secret is a tool for all to use to better their lives and the lives of people they come in contact with. Seems the author has combined piece parts from other educational facilities, etc and put the puzzle together in one amazing package that is easy to read, watch, listen and understand.
"Happiness is in this moment...see it...accept it"

| The Secret Posted: 3/23/2007 2:09:13 PM | | I learned about the secret several months ago- The company I work for went through a program coached by a man named Eitan Sharir -his book is called "Activate your Power" - the website is dynamicachievement.com. He first told us about The Secret before it was available in Canada and even though some of the secret is how I have lived my life, it has helped out sooo many people to get refocussed including me. I have always said that you are in charge of your own destiny- if you don't like it, fix it-this book shows you how. The course gave me and others an incredible boost and is a guide to success. If you enjoyed the book, check out the website I mentioned. I have learned to repel negativity from my daily life and it has made an incredible difference in myself and my family and friends. | |

| The Secret Posted: 3/23/2007 3:41:14 PM | | never knew there was such a movie.is it any good?i don't want to waste my time watching it if it isn't any good.what is it about? | |

| The Secret Posted: 3/23/2007 5:10:35 PM | | It is no secret that they are selling. Perception is reality. Philosphically and now, with advances in theorhetical qunatum physics, physically as well. | |
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/23/2007 5:16:31 PM | | I've seen it and although it is very good, positive thoughts without action are still only nice wishes.......................................any thoughts? I have one of my own: in our Zen studies we are taught visualization techniques. You visualize and practice over and over till you get the moves right. Could be this is similar? | |
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/23/2007 5:17:11 PM | | It's not even that the whole premise of this book and video is really a secret. We know the phylosophy deep down inside of us. Some of us use these tools to awaken in us something we lost in the shuffle of our every day lives. Take from "The Secret" what you will. I think someone with a modicum of intelligence understands that this isn't all about obtaining material wealth. It's about believing in yourself, finding true happiness and peace and striving for what you really want out of life. Just stick with the purest intent of the Law of Attraction. Put out good energy....receive good energy. Just THAT simple. | |
|
| The Secret Posted: 3/23/2007 5:25:37 PM | | hey sweet euphoria, where can you get this movie,i think i may need to watch it.so it was on oprah and montel, sorry i missed it.but seriously where do you rent a movie like this? | |

The mom and pop video stores carry it too. I know for a fact my ex husband bought a copy and rents it out in his video store in New Hamburg.
