Posted: 5/6/2008 7:35:22 AM | wow this thread has really gotten some response, though I haven't read all 11 pages.....I know my take on it is this.....I was just raised in a small town that was predominantly white. So I have always found myself attracted to white men. And then of course it has to do with the stereo type of how they treat their women, though I know they don't all do this. In my head I would be the one that would find the one Indian guy that would treat me like that. Not to mention their families, which have very strong beliefs (that they are entitled to ) but one of them happens to be not accepting a white woman like me with open arms. As they totally encourage same race relationships.
But I have noticed that since I have been here I seem to get quite a few messages from Indian men. It is a preference for me not to date them, not a racist thing at all. Cause I have met some nice Indian people for sure. | |

Hmmm once again I'm not sure I follow you. I was posting about how it's unfair to talk about Sikhs as if they are unwelcoming to white people. This was a response to an earlier post. I don't think commenting on earlier posts is inappropriate. I only posted the name flounder so others would know how who I was quoting. Ya I know that there are a lot of white women on this forum who say they like brown guys... but I really don't think that proves anything. There's obviously a sampling bias right? So for argument's sake let's just assume he's right for a sec. What factors contribute to the selection of a partner? There are a multitude of issues including acceptability amongst peers/family, socioeconomic factors, religion, etc etc etc . Basically too many to list.
One factor that I'd like to highlight is how the media shapes our subconscious ideas of what characteristics are attractive. Growing up almost all male heroes, sex symbols, love interests, etc that a little girl will see in the media are white. These figures will make up the bulk of all romantic figures she sees, fictional or otherwise. So I think it's fair to say that for a white girl (or any girl born on this continent) to be attracted to a non-white guy, she'll be attracted to somebody who is quite different from any of the romantic characters she grew up with. Now while there's obviously a very strong element of choice when it comes to choosing a guy to date, and a great many white girls will chose to date outside their own race, I think that the subconscious effect of the media's focus on white males can be significant and add to the long list of factors that others have cited in this thread. So when people feel that they're "just not attracted" to XYZ people, I don't think it's always a simple matter of individual preference, as those preferences may not be completely autonomous. | |

Given the corruption level in India (However its growing to the likings of western countries) some people would say that British Raj was good. One of the prominent Indian writers wrote "Good rule is not a substitute for self rule".
I understand the meaning of that sentence more clearly after living in western world myself for few years. I think luck favoured Indians, or may I say there were few wise guys to understand what's coming. | |

I merely pointed out to one poster who said her child's father was Native Canadian that we were talking about East Indians and that the reason for her mix up was probably due to that explorer Columbus not knowing where the hell he was when he landed and calling the ''new land'' India and the inhabitants, "indian"....
North American Natives are handsome too, however, my preference is East Indian men.
