are a very diverse group of bony fish. Named for their prominent barbels, which give the image of cat-like whiskers. They feature some of the smallest known vertebrates, including the candiru, the only vertebrate parasite to attack humans, as well as Mekong giant catfish, the largest reported freshwater fish. There are armour-plated types and also naked types, neither having scales. Despite their common name, not all catfish have prominent barbels; what defines a fish as being in the order Siluriformes are in fact certain features of the skull and swimbladder. These fish are also nocturnal. And the females typically grow bigger than the males.

Of course you're not going to put descriptions by the fish names because that would ruin the whole point -- the names themselves offer forth vague ideas of what they mean. It keeps a little mystery and hints at a personality or style. Actually a pretty clever idea.

Posted: 3/15/2007 8:29:32 AM | A good notion of having members express themselves in a unique way, but using a species of FISH without an accompanying "definition/description of what that fish means (ie- blowfish - modest and calm, but can be "big headed" at times or "I may appear meek and mild, but I have an a side that's larger than life" or more to you than meets the eye, or watch out when you get this one upset. you might get more of a reaction than you bargain for) to identify one's personality is a not the most effective way of communicating personality type. Maybe limit the number of choices of Fish to choose from, and then assign descriptions/definitions of what each type of fish signifies.
Members choosing a specific fish type or types (allow for more than one to be selected) will be enough more of a springboard for conversation, since the member will then be able to ask more direct and/or relevant questions as icebreakers....instead of the general question that ALL members will be stuck asking of "So, why a blowfish?"
Imagine getting 20 replies with that same question. Yeah, it gets old. Would be a lot more interesting to be able to have members ask more directly, "So, you are a blowfish...uh-oh...so, there's more to you than meets the eye. How so?"
