| The Irish Posted: 3/20/2007 5:31:37 PM | Irish girls rock tbh. I used to work in a pub near a teaching hospital, many of the trainie nurses would come in, and were the most friendly and affable people you could meet.
This led me to holiday in Ireland where i visited some people from the pub and went to Cavan. Had a great time. People were generous, especially the ladies ;) to a virtual stranger.
Been back to Ireland probably 40-50 times since then over last 20 yrs, some to see a young lady i met, but generally because its a great country with great people generally, great pubs and mostly a great philosophy on life.
Spend most of my time since in Kerry, just something about a Kerry girl.

| The Irish Posted: 3/21/2007 12:46:20 PM | FoxyMoron74 i think your just trying to get my knickers in a bunch...LOL
Ok two examples to give ya.. If I go to Montreal and ask someone hey? Are you English.. There going to tell me.. No French or French Canadian..
If I see an American with red hair, freckles, and say humm.. You look Swedish.. There going to say… no I’m Irish or Irish American.
I think it works either way to put it personally.. Because if they don’t have an accent here in America you know there American but of that decent.
|
| The Irish Posted: 3/21/2007 1:07:17 PM | But they are just Americans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They may have Irish Blood but that does not make them Irish We all have heritage from one country or another, so really unless your parents are actually Irish and have shamrocks on the wall () ) then you are American I do apologising for rolling your knickers (hehehe, a new one on me, we say knickers in a twist but yours is cool ) But i am speaking as i find... (P.S. why are the Christmas smilies still on here? ) | |

| The Irish Posted: 3/21/2007 4:19:35 PM | In America we don't say I’m American all to much, we all know that, and I think because we have so many different nationalities here that might be the reason we tend to separate it a bit more.
I do have a shamrock in my window and a dala horse (swedish) Coo coo clock (german) . LOL
I love being …..IRISH.. ....as well as German, Swedish, and French Canadian Indian

| The Irish Posted: 3/21/2007 9:08:56 PM | There was a time in America when the Irish were not a handsome lot in the eyes of many. They were subjected to hard conditions and labor no one else would do, with little or no pay, w/ just food enough to keep ya goin so to be able to work again the next. When they came off the boats many were sick and died, Many died in travel. They were given nothing to start with and more Irish came and flooded the streets even more. It was a very sad time for the Irish. signs were posted above many establishments w/ the words "JOBS HERE" and in letters under stating (Irish need not apply) Many fled Ireland for economic reason and war, the great potato famine drove many to flee, disease. Then when they got here to America, it was no better. Just a little insight as to our plight and flight. We still have a political argument in our homeland. But if I were to say anything about the Irish in defence to them or to give admiration it would be. They were a hard but good people, true, and loyal. And they still are. | |

Totally agree with you there. In England we had plenty of jobs for the Irish though, horrendously dangerous jobs where they were paid a pittance and thousands of lives were lost.... When the Blackwall Tunnel was built (it is the tunnel that joins South London to East London under the Thames) thousands of Irish workers lost their lives.
