im irish, and ye all assume just cause we are irish we are all big drinkers, how cliche of putting irish and drink 2gether. Not all irish people are big drinkers, a select few give the wrong impression about us.

After viewing your profile, seeing that you live in Ontario I can agree with some of the nay-sayers on your message. You aren't "technically" full-blooded Irish.

Besides, if you're trying to convince people that you're "full-blooded", having Catholic/Protestant/Etc under your religion instead of "non-religious" might make your story more believable.

My family comes from Ireland, and when someone asks me "what I am" my answer is Irish. You'd think people would be smart enough to figure out that since I am living in Canada, I am also a bloody Canadian.

Oh, and not all Irish folk are heavy drinkers with a temper. I can't drink to save my life and really don't have a temper.

I dnt think being irish is really where your from...being irish is a way of life really!!! Lots of ppl see the stereotype that were drunk all the time and love having huge parties. And its still pretty funny to think of!!! But in reality we are a really hard working people!!! And its the reason why ireland is now the most desirable place in the world to live as far as stability is concerned!!! Look at it like this, irish people went to america a while back, we got paid crap, but still worked hard...its the same story for those who stayed in ireland!!! Irelands got the highest average earnings in the world now!! €48,000 per year per person !!!! But aside from all the hard work we do...once works finished and the weekend is in thats when we just like to go to pub, go for meals, drink and have fun!!! Cos whats the point in working so hard if you dnt relax after!!!

But whats the craic with everybody saying we've got red hair and freckles??? Check out my profile pic!!! I've got blonde hair and blue eyes!!! Maybe my parents lied and are actually german!!! lol I love germans tho!!! Now thats a great country to visit!!! Great people!!!

Oh and just for anybody, who thinks when you come over here, ur gonna find rainbows, leprachauns, and drunken gaelgoirs...im sorry to dissapoint ya, but nah, were a bit more upscale now!!! lol!! Were too european now!!! I can't even speak irish...but im fluent in french, german and polish!!! hahaha funny how things work out!!! Ah well i think i'll stop ranting now!!!

Peace Out People!!!

Only in Ireland could people pronounce my name w/out thinking about it (It's Irish & full of consonants)....the women were beautiful & everybody was EXTREMELY friendly & nice. OMG...the redheads alone!

Loved it....very hard to leave. I think I can even get citizen ship w/ proof of two grandparents who were citizens (I have 3 out of 4). Would prefer to live in the southwest...it's very beautiful & not as rainy as the rest.

I am certain approximately 50,000 dead Irish from the 1800's would agree

Ahh....I'm no expert on Irish history, but I'd check the math on this. I realize the records from the time are sketchy, but your figure seems to be out by at least an order of magnitude...if not more.

Perhaps a typo.

I'm Irish but moved to Austria 7 years ago. I used to introduce myself as Deirdre but they would just look at me like, "oh sh*t, I have to try to pronounce that now". Well now I just say Dee...I've been called Dee since I was a child but always automatically introduced myself as Deirdre... not any more I can tell you!

Hey, for those who are Irish, I was talking to an English guy here recently so I thought I was safe saying "Sláinte" as I toasted him.. his response: "Mein Deutsch ist scheiße" (My German is shit) .

Have to say, I really miss our colloquialisms...
My job has me calling all over the world but when I call Ireland and hear, "I'm grand", or "T'was great craic"... I kinda get all sentimental...
Although I have to say, I love it here! The sun actually shines!!!

Two Irish guys:
"Hey, do you remember summer last year?"
"Yeah, it was on a Wednesday, wasn't it?"

Oh yeah, and I spent today skating in the sunshine... Stadtpark was filled with sunbathers.. and I joined them... I'm staying put!

Sláinte

The reason for the worlds highest average earnings is due to the high taxes and cost of living. Cost of homes in Ireland must surely be the highest in europe if not the world, and the high rate of inflation (which will surely get worse as the ssia money becomes available) means your wages are going to need to keep going up, but you wont be left with any extra money after paying bills.

There are many hard workers but i feel that the irish work ethic is diminishing with the new prosperity, seems everyone only wants to work 35 hr weeks these days.

And if u dont think irish people drink too much u surley have never seen the state of temple bar at night, people fighting and vomitting all over the place.

I feel that ireland is a decent place to live, but dont be lured into believing some fantasy of traffic free roads, no crime, it is now a modern country with modern problems, same as anywhere else really.

I know we drink like fish's ..punch out our family members but really what is the hype about the Irish?

If you got yourself an accent and you're in a country that talks nothing
like you, you're considered an exotic dish. You could be a Scotish, Spanish
or Russian chick....guys will jump your bones. In fact, I love that sensation
so much that I travel extensively to show off my lack of accent. Man the
women dig me!!....in far away places :P

Well, I know people from the part of Ontario that I was born in would'nt hesitate to argue you on that one. We have families there that can follow their history right back to the green hills. Don't think you would make out too well telling them they are NOT Irish. They wear it well, and are proud of where they came from, albeit, it was "technically" a long, long, time ago.

One of the reasons some people love the Irish is their passion, love of their family(why we can fight so well with our own), and our ability to not understand the words "no" and "can't". Oh, I'll give ya one guess which part of Ontario and if ya are wrong, you owe me a drink.

Gotta reply to your last comment....lol...

You gotta keep looking if you haven't seen us blonde irish people. I'm born and raised in Ireland and in my immediate family, three out of six of us are very blonde.

We're definitely out there!!!!

I agree with you about Irish women......

Look, you're NOT Irish unless you were born in that country of Ireland. All too often I read people saying, 'I'm Irish!" albeit they were born someplace else.

Actually it's heritage as well....I was born in America my greatgrandparents were born in Ireland - thus I AM Irish....

I'm not a fake
nor a wanna be

deal with it

And as to all Irish being redheaded with freckles...there are those considered black Irish - the term my grandfather used....dark hair, blue eyes, pale skin, no freckles...though just as passionate and fierce.

I've got about 7 different nationalies in me and Irish is one of them. I love the line in the movie "The Ghost And The Darkness" when Val Kilmer states,"It's said that God invented whiskey to prevent the Irish from ruling the world."

how can someone claim to have 7 nationalities. the reality is you have one or maybe at most two... the country u are born and reared in is your nationality. your heritage doesnt really mean anything in terms of your nationality, because if we all go back far enough im sure we could probably find we have herritage from over a hundred countries. Many Irish are descendants from scandinavians so do all these americans/canadians claim to be scandinavian to. Why cant americans/canadians just be satsisfied with the fact that they are, in fact americans or canadians instead of always trying to claim something else.

Well I think it's because we are such a mixed race of people. And history is important to us. Almost everyone i know can state what there makeup is if you ask them.. Just because were Americans or Canadians doesn’t mean we take our heritage or forefathers for granted. Here if you ask someone what there heritage is and they say Americans or Canadian people will look at you like…duh.. Plus it’s interesting to see the traits from each country in you and learn the culture. in fact we celebrate our heritage there are tons of different celebrations for different cultures all year round. And yes I am Irish, and yes I am Scandinavian 50%
