Ive just had fall into my lap a memo sent from downing street that is classified as top secret.
Addressed to Councillor Dikc Dripping (labour) at county hall,Pitty Me,Durham,in response to concerns raised by labour councillors about restraints on spending RE:local sanitation and santitation workers wages.
i shall paste part of its contents below;
Mr Dripping,I understand you and your fellow labour councillors fears about losing your seats at the next local elections. We see no option but to continue with our costcutting policy of maintaining refuse collections to once every two weeks.
As your well aware, for the last ten years we have conducted the policy of encouraging very gratefull immigrants from eastern europe who have shown there appriciation by keeping local labour councillors in power. However its more alarming to note that these immigrants are pushing off now that they realise that this countries sanitation has fallen way below that expected wence they came!
To passify disgruntled sanitation operatives on the issue of the abolition of the 10% tax and below inflation pay rises coupled with the problem of losing so many immigrants from your area due to poor sanitation and our weather,we have a salution we would like to impliment as a pilot exercise in your constituancy. To counteract this problem we intend to ship some sub standard ladies of the night from a few newly opened boarder countries. They will be charged with servicing your disgruntled sanitation workers once every two weeks in exchange for council accomodation. Thus maintaining your immigrant quota and passifying the sanitation workforce. Hopefully this will see you in power still after the next local elections. I shall forward our solution to the knife and gun culture in your area as soon as we have one. yours, Ed Balls,MP So,it seems all is not lost op!

| Bin Men To Come Every 2 Weeks !! Posted: 5/7/2008 8:34:41 AM | Just heard on the news that Binmen are to come every two weeks instead of weekly
I wonder if their wives/girl friends are okay with this.............I think most women would be up in arms to find out that they could only have some loving every two weeks...............or maybe it means...............you can do it.....................just don't finish the job except once every two weeks...........
........maybe it's a new birth control method..............the local council are trying out to control the population............*just some ramblings from my bottom draw*

| Bin Men To Come Every 2 Weeks !! Posted: 5/7/2008 10:30:28 AM | have had the alternate bin collection since last year, now that bottler brown has decided to dither about making a bin tax, we all get to pay extra on council tax to pay for the fines from the EU for not recycling enough.
Currently recycle 75%, but no incentive to do so now

| Bin Men To Come Every 2 Weeks !! Posted: 5/7/2008 11:02:51 AM | Fareham Council had a mobile display with a couple of experts answering questions. I asked why I couldn't have some of my council tax back as they were obviously saving money. They said that it actually only saves around £5 a household (like I believed that!) per year. "In which case," I pushed, "If I give you an extra fiver a year will you come every week?" They said "Doesn't work like that" Course not. But it seems now they are saying if you want weekly collections it will add £50 a year to your council tax. How's that then? Didn't cut that same amount did they?
As it goes, we get collections here every day.

You were obviously too busy sorting your bins/bags and overspill on a weekly basis to hear the full broadcast. Obviously you're having a bit of bother with the splitting thing. Green 'uns, blue ones etc. Empty them as often as required by law. If the mess gets overwhelming, I suggest you sue your local council for not taking resposibility for your litter mess. Also check out your local health service for help for your Original Problem :-)

| Bin Men To Come Every 2 Weeks !! Posted: 5/8/2008 9:24:56 AM | In some places there are now private firms offering (for a price) to collect your rubbish on weeks that the council wont.
I really wouldnt be suprised if the councils/government eventually use this as a way to privatise waste collection via the back door. Next thing theyll cut it down to every three weeks and then theyll be able to scrap waste collection altogether arguing that private firms are collecting most of the rubbish anyway.
Of course just as with water charging/privitisation there wont be any reduction in rates/council tax.

| Bin Men To Come Every 2 Weeks !! Posted: 5/9/2008 8:33:00 AM | It gets even better in Aberdeenshire. Some places are fortnightly, yet you only have one bin because the council has no uplift and segregation facilities for other waste. Last year there was a bit of a council own goal as it was revealed that recycling bins were being emptied into landfill alongside normal household rubbish as the council could not cope with the extra work. So to cure that problem, they sent it down south via the road network at great extra cost. So apart from clogging an already busy road system, what did that achieve?
As has already been mentioned, fly tipping has increased as a result. In Aberdeenshire the beauty of the countryside is one of Scotland’s biggest tourist draws, yet councils are spending a fortune trying to keep all the lay-bys and picnic spots, sofa and rubbish free. Yet as more councils move to fortnightly collections, the problem is getting worse.
Another side issue is that a lot of employees are now taking their rubbish to work and using their employers’ bins. Councils charge for emptying companies ‘industrial’ waste, so this surge of ‘household’ waste is costing UK companies millions. Which inevitably, Joe the public has to pay via an indirect increase in the cost of goods.
It is yet another ‘green’ idea that is a false economy and doing more harm than good.

When we have to pay by weight will we be able to sue companies who send junkmail ?
