| Why should you attend events? Posted: 5/18/2007 8:07:09 AM | | Ok, I had to type in my two cents. I've been getting a lot of crap about going to the events. I have been online for about 14-15 yrs and NEVER have I "hooked up" w/someone. Many people think that's what these parties are all about. I know it happens, but hey... it happens in bars, walmart, wherever. Let people do what they want. I like going to meet new friends, and if I do meet someone that I'm interested in, I can get to know them better on neutral ground. I think it's safer. Plus, I'm tired of staying at home! | |

| Why should you attend events? Posted: 2/14/2009 5:38:17 AM | Hi Crimson,
I am from OH, I have never attended any of the POF get togethers, but have read the members comments on here, before and after thoughts. I understand what you are saying, my concern is how do you know the players in the group? The ones that come to every gettogether and go after the newsies? I am afraid I will get with the bad guy of the group I guess.

| Why should you attend events? Posted: 2/14/2009 6:32:38 AM | Good Morning, and Happy Valentine's Day!
I saw your post about getting to the events. Well, you already know how to get to the Ohio forums.. when there, just look at the "Events" thread. You will see all kinds of get togethers listed. They are all over Ohio. If there isn't any being held near you, you can start one! And of course you can always come party with us!

| Why should you attend events? Posted: 2/14/2009 7:32:58 AM | Hi, Jo-see50,
I used to be CrimsonKimono when I was on here before, but left and came back several times under other names.
how do you know the players in the group
Players are a problem anywhere you meet people. However, once you start going to the events, you'll get to know other women as friends and friends do share information. You'll be able to see firsthand as well which guys are moving from one woman to another, etc. It doesn't take very many times of playing people that the player is labeled. This is what makes the events a good place to see for yourself how people are when they are out from behind the computer screen.
Most of us have gotten burned at least one time by a player. But once burned, twice shy. You really learn the lesson. And I think, if you allow these experiences to make you a better person and not to become bitter and unforgiving, you can look back and be thankful to have gotten through to a better place.
This may be the time for a couple of cliches:
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
No pain, no gain.
I'm so glad I took a chance that very first time and attended an event. It really did enrich my life and brought me out of my comfort zone.
EDIT: I attended The Stadium event a week ago and met a lady who was from the Ukraine. I really admire this beautiful lady for walking into that place in a foreign country without being able to speak English very well. I know if I was in the Ukraine, I could not do that. She was immediately placed at our table by the hostess of the event and was well taken care of the whole time. Now, if she can do it without a lot of English, anyone can do it and have a great time as well. Just remember that you will be welcomed in if you register at the POF table and people know you are part of the group. You have to take that step yourself.

| Why should you attend events? Posted: 2/14/2009 7:52:42 AM | desertfox, you ol' grump you,
You need to look at the events thread and see that there are events you could attend. You just have to fire up the old jalopy and do it! Somebody needs to rustle up your nest and get you out and about.
My work is never done with these grumps.

| Why should you attend events? Posted: 2/14/2009 2:38:30 PM | | Desertfox, your profile says in you're in Lake County....there's a Lake County POF party about every 6 weeks or so, just check the events thread. The last couple have been held at Jimmy's in Mentor on the Lake, always a big turn out. | |

| Why should you attend events? Posted: 3/12/2009 12:29:45 PM | I went to an event ONCE. It was at a bar on Hilliard-Rome Rd. I went to prove a friend of mine wrong. When she said you can't make friends at these events, I thought she was over-reacting. She said that no one gives a crap about anyone else unless they are a drunk or can get something from you.
Well, like I said, I wanted to prove her wrong. It was almost a year ago that I went, but I can see where she was coming from. First, not one person spoke with me all night. All they did was play cards or pool. Went out to have a cigarette and all I heard was a couple of people bad-mouthing someone else.
I stayed for almost an hour. Not one person introduced themselves to me. I didn't know who belonged in the group, so I didn't know who to approach. I left after feeling that I owed my friend a big apology for telling her that she was imagining things.
I try to get her to go out with me and my other friends, but she refuses because she doesn't feel like being treated less than human again.
So if you want to go to a PoF event you must be able to do one of these two things very well. Either drink a lot and proclaim that you can drive this way or be good at kissing others backsides to be accepted. The horror stories that I have been told, I can now believe with 100% accuracy.

| Why should you attend events? Posted: 3/12/2009 2:59:20 PM | Sorry to hear your experience wasn't a good one summermagic. I certainly haven't found that to be the case at all. It's a friendly bunch that host and attend the Lake County parties.
I do have to say though, it's not exactly fair to judge all these events based on spending less than an hour at one. You also have to put yourself out there at least a little bit. Yes, it can be a little intimidating if you're attending one for the first time alone, but if your body language reads "Leave me alone, don't approach me" then most likely you won't have much success attending these events.

| Why should you attend events? Posted: 3/12/2009 3:54:49 PM | I remember being talked into going to my first event to shoot in a pool tournament.. That was the only reason I was going and for a special person I still call friend. But each week I went talk to new people and within about 4 weeks i was hooked line and sinkered. One by one the people that went became a friend and till this day I can say most are still a friend. That is why you should go. Good friends Good times that you will never forget. If your going thinking your gonna hook up with someone you will probably be disappointed. Friends first relationships second. Make sure you have friends first or you might find yourself left in Dayton without a ride... Is that right Chappy Good thing I had friends there.... I just want to thank Debi for inviting me to that first pool tournament. | |

I do agree there are many reasons to attend a event and they are very much what you make them and sometimes even more.....

| Why should you attend events? Posted: 3/13/2009 7:15:31 AM | When people say that they have been ignored at events, it makes me wonder if they went to the table and registered when they first went in. My first guess would be that it was not known that they were a part of the group, although I've seen members go up to others and ask if they were. Figuring that the Rome-Hilliard bar that summer_magic attended may have been Lucky's (or The Stadium if it were recently), I can't imagine this happening there if it was known that summer_magic was attending as a POF member.
Here's a good rule of thumb. Always register at the table when you first go in and get a name tag. Then sit at a table where there are other members even if you don't know them. You have to be a little pro-active in meeting others. Once you get acquainted with one friend, it just keeps multiplying.
If you attend The Stadium event, seek out Gary (gentlegiant) if he hasn't seen you first. He will introduce you to everyone. Gary is a great ambassador in bringing people together.
