3. Diseases may also be spread when hands are contaminated with urine, saliva or other moist body substances. Cytomegalovirus (CMV), typhoid, staphylococcal organisms and Epstein-barr virus (kissing disease) are spread this way. "

I am amazed at how many people , men AND women, don't wash their hands. Disgusting.

As I said before...this thread makes me want to consider becoming a hermit

I always feel like the lone guy at the sink who washes his hands. I would say over 50% don't wash their hands after doing business (that's being lenient).
Ladies, I would be objective when your significant other comes out of the restroom and maybe be a topic to bring up. I know I wouldn't want to hold hands with bacteria growth.

my dad told me this joke once...

a marine and a navy guy go are in the bathroom taking a leak.
they both get done at the same time, the marine goes to wash his hands and the navy guy starts walking out.
the marine says to the navy guy " in the marines they teach us to wash our hands after we piss"
the navy man responds
"in the navy i learnt not to piss on my hands, you dumb ****"

I do unless the bathroom is really gross in which case I figure, since the only thing I have touched was clean when it got tucked in my undies this morning, I am probably okay this one time. Really, guys shoudl wash their hands before they use the washroom. I mean, c'mon, your hands have been all over the place all day, where has your penis been? In your (hopefully) clean undies.

But seriously, unless the bathroom is really gross. I always do... unless there is just a dryer and it is crowded or some guy is looking at me weird or there is a drug deal going down or something of that nature.

secretly laugh at all the guys who wash their hands after pissing. Either they pissed on their hands, or they are too weak in character to go against what society tells them they should do even if it's stupid. Oooooooooooh, I touched my d.ick, I better scrub my hands until they bleed or someone might judge me!

It has nothing to do with a phobia of my own germs or shame in having touched my genitalia...I love my own germs (okay, maybe not love, but I don't mind them when they talk in the middle of a movie), it's that I do not want to:

a) Share my germs (I'm germ selfish) with others, it seems polite that when I shake my the hand of my client that my hands are clean.

b) Walk around all day with the germs of those who believe that it's more important to defy society than it is to be sanitary.

...it has nothing to do with being "weak in character" but it does have a hell of a lot to do with being clean and polite.

if everyone is so worried about where your hands have been and know where the rest of your genitalia have been for most of the day perhaps wash your hands BEFORE!!!! I know those of us in the medical field have a saying...."wash your hands before going to the bathromm AND after",... and YES use the towel to turn off the tap and another to open the door then toss in the garbage on your way out.

BTW,.. I know of and see more women who are PIGS than men when it comes to bathroom cleanliness and habits.
I prefer to wait til I get home or a family/friends house IF I can.
Ever notice that the "after dinner" mints all come prepackaged now ???, no longer is there a "free dipping bowl" by the door. Hm wonder why? ( Where IS that barf icon?)

This was an interesting forum. If you ever took a food handling safety class, the appropriate amount of time to soap your hands is to sing Happy Birthday twice. If your in a public restroom, I'd recommend doing this subvocally, or people might look at you funny (unless they are already looking at you funny for washing your hands). Also, the nurse where I work recommends using the paper towel after you dry your hands to open the door handle.

I think that I agree with the reason that you wash afterwards, is because you shake hands when you meet people, and maybe they don't know you well enough to want to touch your penis just yet!!!! (I guess that washing before is starting to sound like a good idea, also.)

Maybe the reason that men don't wash is the reason that they are in and out of the bathroom so quickly. Maybe they don't wash because some folks use the sinks for urinals if the bathroom is too crowded (or they are too drunk to tell which white porcelain thing they are aiming at).

O.K., lets not perpetuate a myth about the filth of urine. Urine is virtually sterile; it is waste, water, some chemicals, but not bacterial waste. Unless you have a urinary tract infection anyway. You can even cleanse a wound with it if you'r out somewhere where you have nothing else. A little gross, maybe, but it works. If you have bacteria in your urine, go to the doctor. On the other hand, feces is loaded with bacteria. And, while helping patients, I've seen the majority of women go for a second 'front to back' wipe with the same tissue paper, so maybe that's one reason so many of you get UTI's (yeah, I work in a hospital, I'm not a peeping tom).

I do and I have observed most of my friends do. Also when I go to a wasshroom that has no urinal, I always gingerly lift up the toilet seat with my foot to avoid touching the seat. Ye never know what slob has peed on it.
