| How Do You Define Intelligence? Posted: 3/22/2007 2:02:46 PM | Intelligence is a goal. I think the most intelligent people don't have fully formed opinions; it is always work in progress. I'm a long way short of the goal, by the way, and anytime I get near I'm usually caught offside.
And I agree, IQ isn't a great measure for fully rounded intelligence - neither are exams.

if you truly are intelligent you won't need to remind everyone of that fact, they will simply know it for themselves unless they are thick and cannot appreciate intelligence
well i have been told by somebody a few times how intelligent he is, now i dont know if he is saying it a lot now because he thinks that i am thick or because he wants to believe it himself
post was from one of the most intelligent people on here, she, actually puts points of views across to explain her reasoning rather then being negative about the other persons posts

Lol, did you know that 44 or did you or look it up out of interest? I was going to say google it to people, lol.
My point though is I am me and as I always say to my kids, "no one is better than you and you are better than no one else. You are unique!"
Who cares who is more intellegent? Most people just use it as a way to belittle people anyway!

| How Do You Define Intelligence? Posted: 9/14/2007 10:51:37 AM | IQ only measures logic, EIQ measures emotional intelligence, which i think is far more useful in everyday life. Myers-Briggs is also good for personality type and what you're receptive to in life. try it here: http://www.personalitypathways.com/type_inventory.html
I'm an ISFJ
I agree with some of the posts that its knowing when and where to speak up or stay silent. I'm definately the type who prefers to listen very carefully and fact gather, before opening my mouth to reply. have won many a debating point on pure fact and logic. Not enough people listen what is actually said and go instead for the tone in which it is spoken, you cannot add to a debate or argue a point unless you fully understand the arguement. thats the wonderful thing about being human, no two are alike.

| How Do You Define Intelligence? Posted: 9/14/2007 10:52:16 AM | I think it's open to personal opinion..
A person can be intelligent in different ways..
To me intelligence isn't anything to do with education more to do with how they are able to hold a conversation and they are open to discussion about most things in life whether they have experienced it or not...

Intelligent people do:
get caught with their pants round their ankles belittle the little people smack dumb people round the head laugh at those on Jeremy Kyle use their mobile phones whilst "parked" at the traffic lights put on their make up as the police officer walks up to the car at the traffic lights cut up other drivers
I dont know what defines intelligence

Yes.

Have to disagree. There are some insecure people who do that - usually their 'intelligence' is their only redeeming feature.

post was from one of the most intelligent people on here, she, actually puts points of views across to explain her reasoning rather then being negative about the other persons posts Why thank you very much msg.27, such a lovely thing for me to read tonight. I don't know who you are but I can tell you are a man of distinction and god-like discernment from what you just wrote.
I just hope that when I write what I am about to write now that the two ladies who love to report my every post don't take umbrage at firstly your singling me out as one of the most intelligent posters on here (they're terribly jealous don't you know) and secondly, that I agree with another poster's post on here when he stated that "intelligence is in the eye of the beholder". Especially because I am going to take this opportunity to elaborate further and those ladies may decide it is they I speak of (they're both quite paranoid...it's an awful shame really) when I say that it will never cease to amaze me how some people choose to advertise their expertise in matters they clearly have a limited knowledge of - people who do such a thing should remember that the people who are beholding their posts can see through their silliness. If they want to make a good impression it would be better for them to be truthful and show themselves for the who they really are.
Also, there are countless very clever men and women on here whose posts thrill me to read..I could name them if you like but I think it's against the rules and besides those people have exchanged mails with me where my thoughts about their smart, witty, amazingly funny comments have been expressed clearly. For those of you I haven't mailed, it's only because I am actually very shy.
But there are three female posters on here who are in no doubt as to how stupid and crass I think they are and I wish they'd get off my back already.
I fully expect this post of mine to be deleted upon request from the ladies who simply cannot give it a rest.

| How Do You Define Intelligence? Posted: 9/14/2007 3:20:51 PM | someone seems intelligent to me, when they can make me question my opinions on something by using well thought out arguments and not shouting me down and telling me im wrong without a good reason.

| How Do You Define Intelligence? Posted: 9/14/2007 3:24:32 PM | Intelligence is really hard to define, there are some huge intellects on here but does that automatically mean they are intelligent? Is intellect and intelligence one and the same? To me intelligence is admitting you actually know very little and are prepared to adapt and change your opinions as you are educated... I am constantly reminded of the gaping chasms in my general knowledge, I am regularly being taught something new on here and in life in general.. I hope I never come close to knowing everything... I consider myself to have a reasonably high intellect but am constantly amazed at the immensely intelligent people who regularly post on here and remind me of my fallibility.. | |

| How Do You Define Intelligence? Posted: 9/14/2007 4:15:38 PM | an academic may not possess the intelligence to comprehend that in reality he's an ars*hole. yet a humble man with no educational qualifications can be intelligent enough to understand it's his humanity that counts.
intelligence to me is how you conduct yourself as a person.

| How Do You Define Intelligence? Posted: 9/14/2007 5:07:40 PM | intellect ive heard can be measured in a few ways - emotional/social/cognitve and...forgot the other.... people can score highly in one category and not in the other eg a super intelligent person in cognitive ability often lacks intelligence in an emotional capacity and so on....
being aware of ones intellect, high or low can have a danming and isolating effect. think decent, appropriate encouragement for the young can work wonders, .
bringing the best out in people, focusing on strengths is intelligent. labelling/judging who is, is not ...erm intelligent. what i may be trying to say to is its wrong to define intelligence.
also if definig intelligence is what your looking for try an online IQ test? have some tissue at the ready though..oh and a razor blade!

| How Do You Define Intelligence? Posted: 9/16/2007 2:26:56 PM | Hmmm yeah it is hard to define (or maybe im not clever enough) lol. Nah seriously, intelligence to me is not about what you scored in an i.q test, everyone is intelligent in a different way. Me i left school with two g.c.s.es ( In english,my spelling is rubbish but the content was good),I didnt take school seriously because it bored me. So,no qualifications, cant spell so well, and my maths is alarmingly bad,HOWEVER,play me any song and ill sit and write the notation and bars out for ya,ive got a big portfolio of qualifications in my profession,im doing an nvq3 and a degree, and hand me a novel mate, ill read it in a day.(Plenty of education in the university of life to) Swings and roundabouts see,its the way you think, your ability to express yourself...its the big picture. I swear i hear somewhere if you are good at maths and science you are not going to be very good at english and music...or something. | |

| How Do You Define Intelligence? Posted: 9/16/2007 3:17:47 PM | To me intelligent is the opposite of stupid
Message too short..
Ive read some posters comments on here over a good time now and some obviously put their own "Intelligence" above others and like to prove this fact. Is intelligence measured by an IQ Test and how well you have attained educationally or maybe how well -read you are or even how well you can argue a case? I took no examinations at school but talk at a "streetwise" level which to me is intelligence in itself and also can be quite creative. What makes someone seem intelligent to you

| How Do You Define Intelligence? Posted: 9/16/2007 5:34:18 PM | Its common sense you need not intelligence, as a countdown conundrum means absolutely nothing to me when im making chips and would Carol Vordermans maths solutions stop my chip pan bursting into flames if I left it on the ring? "Four from the top and anywhere else" No! Intellligence could cause a fire as you may watch that programme and forget Im smashed | |
