Who puts kids on the same level as dogs???

One question I haven't seen posed here: who's house was it? Perhaps the SO -if you were at his place- was miffed that you wanted to put what he considers to be a beloved family member outside.
House rules: s/he who owns/rents the house, makes the rules...he might have handled it better, though.

I was wondering the same thing.

All these people who think life revolves around their kids giving advice to the OP to throw him out of the house. Maybe it is his house. If it is his house, the OP should be grateful he even allows her in his life.

Come to think of it,,,dogs might be considered more important to some adults let alone the kids.

,,,Dogs aren't full of themselves nor do they talk back.

The OP sounds horrible until you start reading some of the posts, i.e. does/did the OP have a problem and pretty much want the dog to disappear dinner party or not, who's house was it, was the dog behaving or jumping on people or laying underneath the table?

I don't appreciate people that are snotty to my kids or my dogs, but I recognize that my 110 lb shepherd mix thinks she is a frigging toy poodle and getting people in the house is difficult. At one time she was horrible if people were eating because she was a puppy and wasn't used to guests and I would have understood anyone asking the pet to be put outside, or another room or whatever. She has been trained to get the hell away from the table so why someone would have a problem with her eyeballing food from 10 feet away I would not understand.

So the answer to this question would lie in whether the dog is a running issue with them, if the kid is obnoxious and generally more poorly behaved than the dog, and whether the dog was well-behaved. Also, if others, the guests, were uncomfortable because of the dog. I don't think I would probably have answered the question in the same way as the SO in this case, unless he was trying to intentionally piss her off.

depending on the situation I believe it is okay to ask that the animals be restricted to a specific area while you have company, some of the guests may not like animals or be allergic. I believe that he may also be putting his dog on the same level as your child, maybe not the other way around. I don't know.
It is always a good idea to keep the animals away from the table during meal times (I was brought up with this being the correct thing to do) and then go and play with our dogs after the meal, we were always able to get through the meal times quicker if we were not paying attention to our pets.
If there is going to be "people food" out where the dogs or cats can (& usually do) get into it while you have company then I would suggest that either the food room be sealed off from the animals or the animals be restricted to an area- maybe outside, maybe to the laundry or to a bedroom... A few hours will not cause them intense distress and if you are concerned about your beloved pet (as I am with mine), give them toys to play with, give them a rawhide bone or chew toy or even excuse yourself to go and check on them.
If you feel bad then you can always make it up to your animal later- after the guests have gone. Pets of any kind become part of every family and putting them outside may not be as bad for them (or us) as we often imagine it will be.

I loved my dogs as my children--but if a jerk put my daughter in the same category---a pit bull would suddenly become his best friend after the damage I'd do to him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he says, "I will if you put your son in the back yard while they are here!"

I say, without a second thought, "Really? I think you and your dog need to leave then."

There is NO way I would allow anyone I am dating to place my child on the same level as pet. That just ain't gonna happen.

I understand how some people view their pets as small furry people. They may be small and furry, but they are not people.

...The better question is,,,why do people elevate dogs to "human" levels?

Easy answer...isn't it.

Hysterical posts some of these.

I have three dogs, and 2 children. The dogs are spoilt rotten, absolutely, but if someone is uncomfortable with them after I'VE invited them round, then they will go outside. Just because someone elevates a dog to 'human' level, does not make them human. However much I 'coo' and 'awwww' over my dogs, they are still dogs! I would (and have) sacrificed many things to enable me to pay a vet bill to ensure my dog got a proper send off, but my love for my pets, does not suddenly give them the right to remain in the house regardless of what is happening or who is round. Its called respect. Respect for other humans.

Going back to the OP, if he was joking, then laugh it off. If he was being serious and thinks that little about her son, then f*** him off - straight away! The same way I would if anyone didn't like my children, or if anyone didn't like my dogs - we just wouldn't be together.

And as for the post 'if it's his house, she should be grateful to be there' WTF are you on!!!
