Hello from North Alabama. Live in a rural area and love every minute of it. If there is a little life in this forum, maybe a get together could be in the future. BTW Tango, there are some wonderful covered bridges off Hwy 75 just before you get to Oneonta on the right. It makes a very good photo op. The scenery there is awesome. I am looking to update a digital camera that has a better zoom to use in my bird watching. Any suggestions for a basic digital with those capabilities?

Hi Spunki...Nikon makes a great little digital with a nice zoom. Nikon is known for being the choice of many professionals for years...I don't have the particular model I'll try and find out ..it's competitively priced at about $225. If you are looking for something a little more economical I suggest that you look into the Kodak Easyshare C300 series cameras. They are pretty inexpensive and have the capability of zooming in nicely.

I'm thinking of upgrading too. I paid $130 for a Fuji 2.o about 3 years ago. From what I've seen lately, $130 will buy a pretty nice camera today.

Thanks for the camera info. I have something a little more challenging in mind. I have a Fuji digital that makes great pics but the zoom leaves much to be desired. For real closeups, I am looking more for something with extra lens, maybe. I don't know much about those but am researching. The Nikon you mentioned would probably be about the same as what I have, Thanks for the insight into Nikons, though. I took a look and see several that might fit the bill.

Hi Bamasmile, just jump in the mix. Maybe sharing some recent events or vacations or grand hildren stories would be in order. I don't think there is a topic, just casual discussions about whatever one wishes to share.

Check out the Get together board and let's see if we can generate some interest in a casual Get together in Guntersville. Come on let's get hopping on here.

Well, lets see, we could discuss the upcoming Pres race but that might be uncomfortable for some..lol...how about why are so many men threatened by an independant woman? If you don't care for that one how many of you are into Nascar?

"I don't feel like I really fit in here in Alabama even though I grew up here. Football? What's that?"

FlyteX, I think I love you!

And I live near and work in Tuscaloosa! Is there anybody else out there near me? So many of you in north AL or Mobile. I'm 50 years old, divorced for 2 years, no kids, living in a log cabin in the woods with the four cats. I don't know anybody anymore and I'd like to make some friends!

I do think that men are somewhat threatened by an independent woman. I was forced to become and remain independent due to a loss of spouse. I think others in that situation can identify, but I have always had a little independent streak as I was one of 6 children. When you have a family that large, you learn to do a lot of things on your own. I would be willing to bet that most men would rather see a woman with a little independence than one who needs to have someone lead her around by the hand. I think a person lacking some independence could feel stifled in their ability to grow as an individual. I think it takes a pretty good balance of the need for some assistance but also being able to pick yourself up and run the household if the situation should arise. JMO.

It does seem for some reason the folks in AL do not want to chat or get involved. I for one am looking for friend and eventually, hopefully, a long term relationship. Maybe we could start a forum for the over 50 crowd, also, we're not dead yet, at least I'm not. Let's show FLA and GA we can stand up to their forums and enjoy doing it!!!

Not quite sure why the AL folks don't want to post in the forums .. it can be rather interesting that's for sure! I'm not in the "over 50" crowd yet but I'm certainly still fun :) Don't let age keep me from playin!

ps. I'm from Dothan as well!

Ok. Here is one more Southern Born Alabama Gal.
Hi Ya'll ... Joining the party and kicking up my heels.
I read some of what the guys on one of the other pages spoke about in size of average.
For me. I am work in the Medical field, I am a true blonde with blue eyes. Then for size I feel average. blue jeans 14-16 size and I am not going to loose weight for any man as long as I feel ok with myself..........

Awww now, you don't have to show us up. Just have some fun and come up with some fun, thought provoking, and informative threads. It is like peaks and valleys, I have seen the Georgia Forums near standstill. Then you get a few that stick around and have fun. The same can happen here and I really hope it does. I have nearly as many Bama Friends on POF as Georgia Friends. You folks just a few miles down the road from me really ROCK!!!!

Have fun!!
