The Past Is Broken
As I was going through my things
an old cream and sugar set came to my hand
I've kept these from my grandmother for fourteen years
devastated was I when a piece of this set to the floor did land
I stared down in devastation truly
for so little I have of her left
tears came to me suddenly
in my kitchen I stood there and wept
I wonder how many would react the same
when a piece of their past is no longer there to hold
such connection I gave to this object
all these years I would gaze fondly upon this piece of old
Then as my mind began to wander
as it always tends to do
I began to ponder a possible symbolic meaning
could this be a sign of the past being broken as I begin anew?
For we do not need objects to remember
those in life we held quite dear
for all we need to do is close our eyes
these precious souls again are brought to us near
So although I feel sadness
a positive look at this I must find
for although gone is this piece of Grandma
she will always be there when I look within my mind. | |
