To everyone that has posted about my loss... (aside from the above poster, who felt it necessary to rant and swear and throw threats around.... tsk tsk...)

Thank you for your kind words, the beautiful poem and the loving sentiments.

I know Sophia is with all the critters we have loved and lost.... spirits without pain or affliction....

To believe that and remember their undying love is all that gets me through the days and nights without her.....

Your gentle and loving souls have shined through this thread and I am beside myself with warmth and love for people I have never met.... and I thank you all for your outpouring of love.

Sophia knew I would be alright.... she must have known you all were here for me....

Thank you!

"Not all dogs are bad. Though it makes me wonder about some of the owners?"

DanSolo,
You can stop wondering. There is no shortage of Idiots and people that are too stoopid to be dog owners! There is no shortage of Idiots in general.
There are no shortage of people that raise Pit Bulls, only to underfeed them and make them hungry and vicious, and beat them down, until they reach their final destiny. That destiny is to be placed into a ring with another Pit Bull, while these savages lay down their bets and cheer on the blood bath
There are no shortage of inconsiderate people that walk their dogs and allow them to "make a deposit" in someone's front yard, and then do not even bother to scoop it up. But there is no shortage of inconsiderate people in general.

One man had a dog in the basement, and the floor was littered with feces. He said he would clean up after the dog "every three days or so."

One night, some fellow officers got a call for dogs whining. In the hot summer heat, two Pit Bulls had been locked in an unventilated garage for days with no food and water, until a neighbor complained about the incessant whining and barking (the owner apparently went out of town for the weekend.) Officers called Kennels.
When they opened the door, the one dog charged at the posse, and was killed by the blast of a shotgun. The other was taken into custody by Kennels, where it would be put down, which is more merciful than leading a life like that. The identity of the owners would be determined and they would be charged with animal cruelty and neglect.
I believe I might become pretty vicious under those circumstances, too.

Regarding your comments to Bullie...
Can't we all just get along? This thread was intended to be a positive place of discussion, and not a place of negativity, as we can still agree to disagree. {Everybody (I am not singling you out, Dan) please play nicely together and don't run with scissors! We are all better than that!}
On that note, I hope I was able to sway your opinion somewhat on Rottweilers being a vicious breed. Yet, you are entitled to have an opinion, even if it is wrong.

To Bullie:
I have been praying for you and I am so sorry for your heartache. I also saved 4real's poem. Daizee, , my heart and prayers also go out to you.
Bullie, you know in your heart that you would have been selfish to keep Sophia only to spare yourself any grief. And you were there for her until the very end!

I'm so sorry, Bullie. I had to make that choice a year ago, and my pain just came flooding back reading about you loss. It's a pain that no one can truly appreciate, unless they've been there.

jimmi77 "Thank you.. all dogs have cute, pinchable noses. No nose is to big or to small they all must be pinched! I don't know its something i've done since childhood and still do today..call me stange.."

It's not that I think you're strange dearheart, just fool hardy! LOL My dogs are both rescues, and I can guarantee if a strange man tried to pinch either of their noses and I didn't have the dog in a vice grip, the dog WOULD remove his hand at the shoulder. LOL Even some of my show dogs (pekingese) wouldn't have like you much for pinching their little noses. Do you gamble a lot too???

My dog has become my raison d'etre (which is pretty much the only French I know, so it gave me an excuse to use it).
My doggie is such a social butterfly.
My neighbor across the street has a dog that must now already be around 7 months-old, a Chow-Labrador mix, all black. When neighbor first got him he was very skittish, but he has come a long way. Dawg has not been around a lot of other dogs or people though, since leaving his mom and siblings. I thoroughly believe in the importance of socializing animals!
Come to think on it, if people were better socialized when they were young, Society might have a lot less problems, but that is for a different thread.
Neighbor phoned me the other morning, and asked if Riley could come out and play. They played and shared treats and Jefferson, who used to be afraid of everyone, gave me puppy kisses.
Our localities are cracking down on the enforcement of dog ordinances, though, after several dog attacks in the region (one being a pit bull attack to a horse in the Metroparks.)
I found a link that intend to check out on breed-specific statistics regarding dog bites for the U.S. and Canada since 1982. As soon as I check it out, I will share that information here!
1/3 of dog attacks are purportedly by Pit Bulls, but what of the 2/3 that are actually pets and do not attack? To me, this is a tough question.

breeds of dogs involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998.
http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/duip/biteprevention.htm
http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/duip/dogbreeds.pdf

pit bulls and dobermans come out pretty high on this study (half). but they seem to be against breed specific legislation due to the uncertainty of accurate breed recognition. 25 different breeds were involved in over 200 fatalities.

I have concerns that livestock guardian dogs are at risk for becoming the next pit bull or doberman simply because too many are ending up at animal shelters, screwed up from being in a pet home. I have mine behind an 8ft fence to minimize the risks to strangers. And am actively working on their behaviors. LGD are not naturally aggressive but when raised in a nonworking home they tend to get out of hand. It takes a lot of hard work to socialize them well enough and unfortunately, we live in a throw away culture.

None of these dogs would naturally bite humans, but we don't do a good enough job teaching them their place in the pack.

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070522/OPINION/705220314/-1/LOCAL17
here's another link, interesting they say and I quote: "More than 4.7 million dog bites will be reported in the United States in 2007, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That means that roughly one of every 60 Americans will be bitten by a dog, and many of the victims will be children. Each year, 15 to 20 fatalities are reported.
With more than 61 million dogs living among 296 million Americans, some conflicts are unavoidable. Lawsuits often follow, and the stakes are high. One local lawyer said arm or hand bites often cost $35,000 to $40,000 to repair, and that settlements also include up to three times medical costs for suffering and pain. Facial wounds, usually involving children, cost much more. In 2005 alone, insurance companies paid $317.2 million in claims."

We as dog owners have to be responsible. they also offer tips on how to avoid being bitten.

The Humane society has an excellent list of ways to avoid bites too.

Windkist,
Thanks for all of that valuable information.

I must ask, where are the parents while the children are being bit, and where are the dog owners whilst the dogs are doing their biting. Again, as is my mantra, where were the responsible adults?

Not all breeders look at their dogs as a Investment. Some breed for financial gain but others breed because they love that breed, some have breed to keep a certain breed from going extint and others breed for a combination of reasons. P.S. I would not buy a dog at a pet store because most of those dogs come from "Puppy Mills"

Simba & I were mauled by 3 black pit bulls today at 3 pm. for about 1/2. Nobody would come to my aid. I tried to protect him but they were pulling him apart. I was there to put him down. Just about every bone in his body and face and scalped skin, humongous tears. in alll levels of skin, and pieces of skin (like scalped) I tried to protect but I could not keep all 3 off him do it with of them. Nobody would help, they just stood around and even when I got him lifted high on an 8 ft feence and begged people on the iother side to take him to safety they wouldn't help. me. Ambulance MADEme to haopital and police took my dog far away to vet hospital. After 5 howrs in my hopsital but I wanted to go with Simba. I walked out because I wanted to be with Simba when he died.and four hrs had paassed & I had not been seen by a doctor nor a nurse yet. They kept him comfortable with morphione.

We put him down around 8 and I had nice time with him and his eyes cleared and he tried to come to me so I know he knew I was there and I talked and talked to him while gently streeking his broken jaw. When I came back from there I stopped at another hospital and got all my right arm punctures tkane of, can't stich because the y are already infrected. and deep punctures They gave me 400 units of a strong antibiotic by iv and dressed all the wounds and I got home atfet midnitge and there's no Simba hjere!

I didn't want him to go this way. but the vet said he was comfortable but just about bone in his face and body was broken and he was ripped to pieces.

So please think of him, lots of positive thoughts. I'm under strintch order to head badk to hospiatl if my sowunds start streaking red on the skin. Tjhey'' have to goive memega doses of antibiotics thru ifs.

Pray for us please. I told him all his doggie friends and people friends that he can find .

Right now I don't know that I want to live but I willlllll even just thru the courts and everything else. Please thinks of us. Zee I double Ill be back here for a long time. Thank you for your support.

You'll have to part my typing #1 upset and # 2 my right hand and arm is all swathedup.

Bullie and Daizee, I'm so sorry for the loss each of you has endured. Only another animal lover can truly understand what it is like to lose a beloved pet, and I was in your shoes just over two years ago when I had to have my 14 year old dog put down. I still miss her and still have an occasional cry when I think of her. Each person has to grieve in their own way, but for me the best thing I did was get another dog shortly after. She will never replace the one I lost, but she does help a lot to fill the hole in my heart.

Daizee, did they find the owners of the dogs who attacked you and Simba? I hope they did and that charges will be filed. I can't even imagine what that horror must have been like for you.

Yes the owner was there. Lives in my apartment bldg. 3 Dogs are in quarantine for 10 days, I have been contacted for my wieght for the rabbies shjots whjich I hiope I don't need. Sorry re typing errors my righ arm is all injured. There is a big investigation, dogs will most likely be put down after 10 dayys and criminal charges will be laid, one may be attempted murder (me). I am still in shock but getting stronger. Meet with animal control officers today and kater the police are going to take pictures of my injuriesl

I'm glad that I got to be with "Simba when they put him down. Yesterday he was cremated after the opolice took all his pictures. The management of my bldg has been great and so many people bringing me food. I have to go lay down, still shaky on my feet. Feel like my body was kicked from Timbuctu. I got off easier than Simba. I still see it all happening. Can't close my eyes. Thanks for your kindd words

Some more unwelcome and surprising developments. The police have blown me off. They are no longer involved in the case. I can't blieve it. They will give no reason. So I am going to go public to the media. I miss my baby so much and am having trouble sleeping as keep seeing it all over and over. I'll bet if it was a child or a humor that was killed they'd get involved. My extensive injuries seem to make no difference to them. I've lost faith in ev3ertything now.

Its not just the owners who "train" the dogs to be aggressive that are the problem. It's also the owners who don't stay in charge as Top Dog. My two are Anatolian Shepherds, they are not a naturally aggressive breed, however lack of proper socialization combined with putting them in pet homes with no job to do created them. It's taken 2 years to get Cheyenne simmered down to a reasonable nature. Together we're working on Pi!

The owner of these 3 pit bulls had been teaching them daily (for over 1 year) to strip bark off of trees and they can jump up to 10 feet. These dogs can not be rehabilited. The owner was told today by the authorities that after the 10 days isolation are up the dogs will be put down humanely (as opposed to the torture my Simba went thru by the 3 of them!) Upon hearing this news the owner tried to jump off his 9th floor balcony this afternoon. He is not upset about my injuries or my tortured/murdered dog, only the 3 monsters that he created being put down. He is now in a pyschiatric ward for 72 hrs.

In the meantime, the police have pulled out of the case, I can't get legal advice and/or support no matter how hard I try but then I'm only a victim of a physical mauling and the owner who fought to save my pet who was totally innocent but who died from the attach. Go figure. I am so upset about the entire scenario that I can't mourn my loss yet. I can't close my eyes without being there again and seeing what I saw. Nobody cares about me, nobody is helping me. I am incurring humongous bills from this incident and I won't be able to pay them. This guy doesn't work, he's a punk.

Daizee,
Please email me so that we can talk!

Of course, I am in The States and you are in Canada, so our laws are different, but I will try to help you.

Two nights ago, I responded to a fight in the streets, one man with a gun, that turned out to be a family fight and three people bitten by the family's pit bull. Sometimes I take my work home with me.
I learned that the police are no longer supposed to do dog bite reports. The Kennels rely on the hospital to send information on a dog bite, yet we are always called on scene. I was 2/3 completed with my report, so I completed it anyway.
Then, on my own time, I called the Chief Dog Warden. We must've talked for twenty minutes. He said that he would love to have a copy of my report, because the burden is upon him to investigate. I probably will be called as a witness, though I did not witness the actual attack. The "mother" of the ordeal had her face ripped off and her lip was hanging.

My Rottweiler and I went to the Vet yesterday. He weighs 112.5 lbs. and is at his ideal weight. He is done "filling out" unless I let him get fat. Even the vet complimented his coat, so I must be doing somthing right.

My goal is to become a liasion for fund-raising and advocacy, and I think that LIFE has prepared me to fulfill that role. I wanted to create a Benefit thiis fall, but I will not produce a half-witted event. I amn going to take my time and do it right. If people have a good time, then they are inclined to come back and hopefully bring friends along.

So many people care only about money, but I am more focused on exiistenstial things.

***In the hospital, I advised the woman with her face dripping off about the laws to own a Pit Bull Dog. "Well we JUST got the dog...We were just getting ready to move...."
Of course they did not have thge insurance necessary, and they all plead ignorance. Fortunately??? only family were Victims in this case.

I am dedicated to contacting politicians and creating a lobby to change the laws.

Normally, I am "preaching to the choir" when I talk about advocacy for the critters. I talked to the Dog Warden about changing the laws, and also making the punishment more severe for repeat offenders. When he retires, I would consider filling his position.

daizee.... i've been reading your posts for the last twenty min or so and am in tears! This is so horrible I cannot even find the words. Losing a pet is terribly difficult but you have gone through unspeakable things. I feel for you. I'll be thinking of you for sure. Your picture of simba.... looks just like my dog! I imagine myself in your position.... trying to save my little guy.... and my heart pours out for you.
I can say nothing to help you with this, or take any of the pain away, but I will be thinking of you.

OMG that looks like Simba just a wee bit smaller! OMG didn't expect to see it. Surprised BUT pleased. Simba like yours was BEAUTIFUL and pure white. I am okay sorta with him being gone, he'd been ill and fading for awhile now BUT I just can't past the torture and murder of him. I sleep with his portrait so that if I wake up from a nightmare I get to immediately see how beautiful he was. There is a picture of him in my profile. Thank you for your kinds words and thoughts, all of you. They mean a lot to me. I have no family and very few friends here so they really do help me.

I'd fight to the end! At one time I figured I was going to die but I would not leave Simba. I even bit a pit bull neck to get him to release S;s throat. I will always carry pepper spray for the rest of my life. I don't think any mother or father would fight harder for their child.

Not long ago, there was a story in the news about a Jack Russell Terrier that was mauled by two Pit Bull Dogs. The dogs attacked the two small children of the family and the Jack Russell valiently fought these two vicious dogs. He protected his family, and the children were not injured. His injuries were so extensive that he had to be mercifully put down.
When a Pit Bull attacks, I wish that we could put the owner and the breeder down right alongside the animal. That may sound "inhumane" but the people that inbreed these dogs and the people that teach them how to be vicious are villians that are held to minimal accountabilty. They can always go out and get more dogs, but if Society could put them down next to the dogs, a lot of problems would be solved right there. Of course that cannot ever happen, because these sub-humans are still considered human.
Daizee, I am so sorry for you!

OH Daizee.....

My heart aches with the pain only you know about.... to not be able to close your eyes because you still "see".....

I'm sorry I wasn't here when you first wrote about your sweet Simba.....

The horrid memories of not being helped, of being so HELPLESS.... as people watched....

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!?!?!

I'm in tears... just a mess reading your pain.... for I know it all too well, but to have it compounded by the way in which your baby died.... and to have no help after the fact.... or DURING.... omg....................................................................

I know that letting go is supposed to speed our recovery and Simba would want you to do whatever you need to take care of yourself..... and if that means finding peace SOMEHOW, then do it for Simba.... even if you can't for yourself now....

Simba is in peace..... playing with my Sophia and Humphrey and Mae's puppy and all the others that have left us here to endure....

So ENDURE Daizee.... endure by remembering the things that brought joy to your heart when Simba was with you...... Keep Simba close when you need that strength...

And know how many friends you have here that feel your pain...
Know you're not alone.

Bullie

Simba is a cats name. My cat. Actually, i should have named him Satan. And one would not want to keep my Simba close. One would get bitten and possibly clawed with his back paws. Even though he is a somewhat rotten, anti-social basket case of a cat, he still has his good qualities. He hates children, and he knows who is alergic to him. Then he goes right up to the alergic person. I have to love him for that. And i know i would also be heart broken when he leaves this earth. As you are now.

Nocturnal, the longer I'm HERE the more I appreciate my Goldens; maybe that will change but if people can (and they can, and are entitled to ) say, "my kids and I are a package deal," I can say the same for my boys. Plus, they don't need me to pay for college.......

Ms. Gtadaizee, I am so very sorry for your loss, even sorrier that I haven't responded till now. Seldom do I find myself at a loss for words but this appears to be one of those times. I can only imagine what you've been through and it's not a pretty image. I tried to think of words that might help in some way, but they're all helpless words. Just know many here are with you, with friends you're never alone.
