I'm accepting of men that cry, as long as the crying isn't a result of getting caught doing something they shouldn't have been, like stealing my credit cards or skipping rent.

You are as has been said a sensative guy and that really is wonderful. Don't change a bit. If there are many more like you I hope I meet them beause I am just like that and we can get emotionally drained sometimes just always giving to others when we don't get the same kind of care back. Good luck to you.

MY GOD TIFI2007
MY RESPONSE TO THIS...
************************************************************************
"I would like to say that this woman has some kind of mental/emotional issues.. do you know anything about her past?? How were her parents to her as a child?? How were her parents as a married couple?? These are very important questions, because as to her parents, they molded her into who she is today.. Is she divorced?? or had a long term relationship in the past?? This can also play a strong role as to why her chest would tighten up, and that she would feel threatened by hearing you cry..

She will need some counseling, in order to get better.. If she doesn't want to get herself better, then I would let her go, and move on to the next, because YOU can't change people or make them better, only that individual person can do it for themself!! In that, we are all (each one of us!) are responsible for our ownself!! make sense? In the long run, you would be glad that you had made that decision...

I do wish her well tho, that has to be really tough living life like that! Best wishes! "

WOULD BE:
IF THE GUY WASN'T CRYING ... HE MAY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ASK HER ABOUT HER CHILDHOOD ETC. , TO SEE WHAT MENTAL ISSUES SHE HAD...GEESH WHY AREN'T YOU ASKING WHAT PART OF THE MOVIE MADE "SAPPY PANTS" CRY... PSYCHOANALIZE HIM FOR A SECOND.
I WOULD OF POINTED AT HIM AND LAUGHED, ... BUT HEY THATS PROLLY GOT SOMETHIN TO DO WITH MY PARENTS DIVORCE EH? ...

I think OP that she needs to work some things out.
I wonder what happened to her to feel so scared at seeing someone she really liked crying?
That's something to talk about maybe with her.

BTW, I cried like a bursting dam when I watched Awakenings.
OMG, it was so sad near the end. Who else here thought Awakenings was very sad.

She has personal issues with men showing "weakness". Real men don't cry. Ever... Right? (lol) Of course we do! HUMANS cry. Shoot even thugs cry when their favorite rapper dies.

She's must not be your type. Or 1000's of other mens type. She wants a heartless cutthroat thug who kicks her ass every night. Don't they have some kind of prison dating thing? Sign her up for that.

How Can I Accept Someone As Imperfect As Me?
Self-acceptance, to acknowledge myself exactly as I am, is a prerequisite for becoming a healthy, integrated person. As Suzanne Kilkus said so eloquently in a recent talk, acceptance means, "What is, is!" Call it a reality check but beyond that it means reaching the realization that with all of my quirks and shortcomings, I am okay. I'm not perfect, but I don't have to justify my imperfections. I don't even have to pledge to fix them. I just have to acknowledge that they exist.

For good mental health, we need to learn to think positively about ourselves. There are signs everywhere with slogans about what happiness is. Happiness is __________ (fill in the blank). Those signs and slogans are fine, but a slogan that we ought to promote for greater self-healing is: True happiness is accepting yourself as you are. How can we improve our ability to think more positively about ourselves?

Respect yourself and be proud of who you are rather than trying to be like someone else

Explore and appreciate your own talents as your special gifts

Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings and trust them enough to act on what you think is right and makes you feel happy

Become your best friend and learn to love yourself as a unique individual

Learning to accept myself continues (as in not done yet) to be one of the most difficult tasks I have ever undertaken. I haven't found a shortcut or a quick fix. I haven't found anyone who could do it for me. Yet for all the difficulty, working through this process has improved my life in ways I never imagined. I started by being true to myself and that was difficult. I was afraid that I might not like what I would find, however I was hurting badly enough to start. Once I stopped pretending and faced the truth even the parts of me that I didn't like so much began to soften and change. In retrospect my only regret is not starting sooner.

Before he died, Leo Buscaglia was kind enough to allow me to quote some priceless wisdom about self-acceptance from his book, Living, Loving, & Learning. He was talking about how we often try to be what others expect of us, a banana, rather than what we were created to be, a peach. Leo offered a different, far better approach. "Isn't it all right to say to them, ‘I am so sorry I cannot be a banana. I would love to be a banana if I could for you, but I'm a peach.’ And you know what? If you wait long enough, you'll find a peach lover. And then you can live your life as a peach, and you don't have to live your life as a banana. All the lost energy it takes to be a banana, when you're a peach."

Many of us are beautiful, luscious peaches trying desperately to live up to society's view of a banana. We would be healthier peaches if we took control of our lives and stopped living as others expect. We could shed some of our not-so-wonderful-banana-traits if we learned about our true selves and then let that spirit free. Each of us has tremendous gifts locked inside that could benefit ourselves and the world yet most of us hold back for one reason or another. Transvestism seemed like a good reason to hold back. It was my "private devil" until I learned to accept it as an integral part of me. Everyone has their own version of a "private devil." When we learn to accept ours along with our neighbors', everyone can quit pretending and be themselves.

You might like the real you, so why not let that person out and give yourself a chance to know you. You might be surprised how positively others react to the real you, so why not let that person out and give them a chance to know you. Don't you know that you are okay just the way you are...a beautiful peach.

"The supreme happiness of life
is the conviction of being loved for yourself,
or, more correctly,
being loved in spite of yourself."

Victor Hugo

@>>>She needs a man to be rock solid and devoid of emotion

^^^ doesnt mean your weak, if you shed a tear, you can be a strong person and still express the emotions. its like writing in deep thoughts, some times it grasps the heart and our souls.

If you have to shut your emotions off to be with someone then its not worth it, if they cant handle it, then thats their problem not yours. so go ahead and BE YOURSELF. I would rather be with someone who can express all 13 emotions which everyone has by the way, then to be with someone whos emotionless and cold, who can shut themselves off.

Yes, people cry - but there is a time and a place for it, and during a movie on a first or second date ain't it. Of course people cry when someone dies - in that case it's understandable. Again, I cry during certain movies too (even though everyone in the freaking movie cried all the way to the bank, which bothers me)...but I keep that sappy stuff to myself; I'll be DAMNED if I do that around other people, especially people I don't know that well yet. Yuck. I don't want to meet a new guy and have that happen to me either. If I am dating someone new who deals with a death, job or home loss, or something that makes sense to cry about - it's different.

She's must not be your type. Or 1000's of other mens type. She wants a heartless cutthroat thug who kicks her ass every night. Don't they have some kind of prison dating thing? Sign her up for that.

That's harsh - there is a HUGE gray area between crying during a first date and having a guy beat the crap out of you. TOTAL opposites of a spectrum there.

How about not crying over minor stuff like movies until someone knows you long enough not to feel uncomfortable about it? That's not such a big deal. After you know someone a while, it might be a sweet characteristic, not a weird one. Pace yourself.

IMO she realized you weren't the right person FOR HER.

This isn't about whether or not she's right or wrong to feel this way. Better to find out sooner rather than later. I doubt you were devasted and cried when she told you this...or maybe you did...just kidding.

Just tell her the days of tough knights in shining armour and damsels in distress are long over. If she continues this freaky attitude about a human being showing emotions regardless if you're male or female ,tell her to smarten up and my bet is she'll take the top award for 'Drama Queen' Can you say "NEXT!"

I had an experience with the woman and the guy crying situation. I was dating a woman who couldn't seem to get past her father's death a few years earlier. We had a good friend whose father had just died after a long illness and we had been talking about it. My own father died 37 years ago when I was 18 and just starting college. My parents had separated when I was 5 and I hadn't seen my father since I was 10. He would always write, but I wouldn't write back since when you are a kid your parents will live forever. Just when I was at an age when I could have a relationship on my own with my father, he dies. No do-overs. I don't think about my father often, but with all of this talk about fathers and our friend's father just having died brought it al back to me. I did get choked up and some tears did run down my cheeks. It was more than just a sad scene, but an intensely emotional moment of my life that got dragged into the moment from the long ago past. The next day I got the "let's just be friends" speech.
