| Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 3:55:10 PM | It's my understanding that it's the MAIN pic that needs to be a headshot. I don't want to date your car, your scenic picture, your cat, your dog, your grandma, etc. So it seems like a reasonable rule to me.
However, I doubt I'll be reporting much. IMO, that's a moderators job and I didn't volunteer for that.
Well, after just seeing Admin's new post, I guess it's not so much the way it was written on the first page. Hmpf.

| NEW FEATURE: Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 4:01:08 PM | I certainly agree that the main picture should be of yourself, completely. But I really don't see the harm with letting the other pictures be of another aspect of the person's life (i.e. their pets, their car, nature scenes, etc.)
Personally, I love seeing other pictures besides ones of themselves. It allows me to sort-of delve into just who they are; their personality. For instance, I have a picture of the love of my life posted (my doggie), but what's the harm? I have more than enough pics of myself already. And heck, you have to take my doggie if you're going to take me - he comes with the package! Dundundun!
Rambling aside, if the person chooses not to post any pictures, I do feel that should be allowed, aswell. Uh, I'm not sure if this is an issue, but thought I'd throw that in the fire. :-P
With all that said, this site is amazing, and I've been highly recommending it to everyone I know. Thumbs upskie.

| Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 4:11:17 PM | Last night the question of abuse of this feature came up. I was lead to believe that the MAIN photo was the one in question. And now pics seem to be disappearing form other then the MAIN pic. This woman had a silhouette of her self and because it was not a face shot it was deleted. She was just trying to show her lifestyle. And good on her. People like myself and I think many others just want to express ourselves as the people we are. We don't want to get around the rules. But we may want to affect some change and have some input into this process. Is that not what this thread is all about | |

| NEW FEATURE: Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 4:38:13 PM | Just sent this through to admin and via a moderator.
I'm seriously not happy with the abuse I've received!
MESSAGE TO ADMIN
Just tried deleting your pic to make a point but it seems not to have worked!!!
Not keen on this new feature 'not human or headless torso' (that really sounds sick). I've been deleted for no good reason - and I had two photos of my face - two eyes, nose, mouth, the lot!!!! I find it highly offensive!
As regards other items, I would personally be interested if there was a picture of a dog on profile as well - ever heard the phrase "love me, love my dog". In other words, some people will have pets that someone else would have to live with if a relationship was on the cards.
The same for some art work if the artwork was produced by the person in the profile, shows what they can do and would attract the appropriate people to e-mail.
While it is a nice idea to improve the profiles, it is surely up to the individual to produce THEIR OWN profile. If they can't produce a decent profile then they are just showing everyone who they are.
You have efficient filters for bad language, nudity, and other non-desirable stuff of similar nature - and it's all good, well done. But this new feature of 'not human or headless torso' is Political Correctness gone too far, and rather sickly worded. You have a good site here, don't turn into a site where people cannot express themselves by introducing a form of fascism.
Yours constructively,

| splinter of a minds eye & BluecollarGuy101 Posted: 4/8/2007 4:52:19 PM | | After reading every post here, YOU 2 are the one's making the best argument! I agree 100% with you and believe that having pic's of 'life's treasure's & moments' is an excellent way to let people of interest know just who we are...! It's essential, it seems, when words just aren't enough, to try and sell ourselve's as a 'whole'....NOT JUST A FACE! This is a great site, but I believe too, that this feature is too harsh! L | |

| NEW FEATURE: Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 4:55:33 PM | Hi All
I just signed on to see that my two main pics were deleted....one was my legs...the other of me from the neck down. Being a woman I do not feel completely comfortable exploiting myself here on this site or anywhere else on the internet, thus never put a full pic up but yet for anyone who was interested in me and I found interesting in return they received true pictures of me....which they could tell were the same person of the two that were deleted from my profile. I've just about had it with this site. Its a shame that you cannot show pets, or lifestyles or your love for nature, the beach, or whatever....it actually shows the kind of person that you are. I at first thought that because of my popularity on here...(I have 140 plus favorites...most of whom by the way I haven't corresponded with...) that maybe some one had gotten annoyed at me for my legs or torso...and it was taken off because of that. I cannot help that I have been gifted with a pair of legs or the fact that at 49 I continue to take care of myself and am in good shape for my age. It is a nice idea to improve profiles on here....but however it isn't for our pics to be deleted. I myself have just about had it with this site.
Have a nice night all. Andrea

| NEW FEATURE: Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 4:59:08 PM | Well, I have to say that I often enjoy the "non-human" pics on a profile, and used to actually select and read profiles with these types of "other" images. If that person has an interest in plants or animals, specific activities they like, or other aspects of the natural world, and chooses to express that in their profile through images - it says a lot to me. It piques my interest and gives us something to talk about if we start to communicate.
As secondary pictures, why not? It literally provides a glimpse at another facet of their personality.

| NEW FEATURE: Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 5:04:47 PM | Very well said, eyeing Splinter's mind person!! *applaud*
The best sites are the sites with the least amount of restrictions.
I've left a few dating sites (well, sites in general) because of their policing, for lack of a better word. At least, that's what it felt like. Can't do this, can't do that, can't post this, and oops - THIS is surely censored, etc.

| Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 5:06:36 PM | We're quibbling. We know that pictures are supposed to be recognizable images of ourselves. There will always be pictures which push the boundaries. Silhouettes are an example, but it's the call of the admin.
You aren't denied the right to post pictures of your pets/cars/bikes/hobbies, but you have to be in the picture with them. There is nothing inherently unfair about that.
The stated purpose of the photos is clear - it is not to share your hobbies. People who are averse to sharing photos of themselves are at a disadvantage, but they still have access to everything if they're willing. My guess is that there are really cheap avenues to get digital photos of yourself taken - Staples, Kinko's, schools, come to mind. They might not be candid shots, they might not be you at your best, but they're available.
I'd prefer a different banner for the reporting function, such as "report image as inappropriate under the rules", but there is some macabre humour in the chosen wording. For instance, is a skeleton acceptable =-? Hand drawn facsimile?

| Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 5:14:05 PM | bravo to the admin for weeding out the faceless torsos, they are very annoying
Rule should be expanded to "No Shirt, No Profile"
|
| Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 5:31:19 PM | Yes bravo more rules always fixes everything in the real world...right? I love it when a conversation is just getting good & it gets locked or disappears all together or when photos get deleted for no apparent reason.Aahhh reminds me of the good ol days at tribe. This site may be free but it's not very free. This message will probably get deleted so what's the point... | |

| NEW FEATURE: Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 5:35:05 PM | I applaud the new feature. The rules are clearly posted and there are 'Plenty of Forums' that have analyzed the rules. However, there seems to be a select number of people here who feel they should be above those rules.
Making it easier to police the site, by giving members the ability to report another member, helps keep the site up-to-date and relevant. It also increases personal accountability for every member here.
This is a dating site. It's free. I think Markus has been far more than generous in what is allowed and what isn't. He has been true to his original intent of maintaining a free dating site.
Press About PlentyofFish Why create this online dating site? My name is Markus and I created plentyoffish.com because I was tired of seeing faceless corporate dating sites preying on singles. Finding love is not about handing over a monthly fee to a dating site that only care about making sure you stay another month to pay them again.
If you're a public figure, too afraid of the repercussions of showing your face here, perhaps this is not the place for you. Perhaps you shouldn't be dating for that matter. *Gasp* What if you're seen in a restaurant or a cafe with someone??? Or, do you leave your face at home??? It always sounded like a bad argument...and it still raises a red flag.
If you love cats and want to show your cat, put yourself in the picture. Same for dog lovers, car lovers, nature lovers, travelers, etc...that's all that is being asked...that we keep the photos images of ourselves.
Keep them private, until you wish to share them...then just attach them easily. How hard is it to comply?
It's a Dating Site...IMO, pics should be MANDATORY...at least one face shot on every profile. Dev

| Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 7:41:55 PM | Just a recap
This is a non-pay site, hence the luxuries afforded a paysite in having a entire division of people to approve pictures isn't available to POF. The site relies heavily on self governance of the stated rules that everyone agreed to follow.
Pay sites require your picture, not that of a clown, dog, monkey, waterfall, flower, rock, an asset, your eyeball, your toe, your back, your spleen, kidneys or anything not being your visible self or else your pictures are flatly refused and that's the end of it with them.
The less ambiguous - the less exceptions and arguments!
Simply because this site is free doesn't preclude this site from the same wishes. This isn't a complex rule to comprehend. Of the 1.4 + million users, only a small fraction refuse to accept this.
If you want to be in the photos with your lifestyle likes, feel perfectly free as it's acceptable.
See existing rule --> FAQ - Cartoons, joke pics, Cats, Monkeys, WEB PICS, etc. ARE BANNED.
LAST WORD
as it appears on the image upload page:ALL pictures MUST contain you in it with a visible head shot at minimum The "Report Main Image for not Being You" feature , is just that - a report that goes to admin for review. If the report is found to be valid, the picture is removed (See Terms of Service/User Agreement for removal of any user information) If the report is frivolous, user beware, you run the risk of your profile being deleted.

EDIT: Can't Keep up with the growing numbers!

| Reporting Image As Not Human Posted: 4/8/2007 7:50:54 PM | | There are a lot more users then 1.4 million, around that many used the site this month and so far 4,000 users or so have had their main images deleted for not following the rules. many of these 4k users are highly active spending hours a day here and use the forums so the problem looks waaaay bigger then it actually is. | |
