| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 11:59:06 AM | I'm on the fence about this...
Yes, I don't agree with fake pics, cartoons, celebs and all that being used... as there's no point to them...
But really, looks don't matter. I'm just as likely to go for a profile with no pictures, as one with some gorgeous lady showing off. I read the profile first... then look at the pictures.

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 12:19:47 PM | Just gotta put in my 2 cents (well maybe 3cents)...
First it is Markus's site so he can set the rules how ever he likes... so far, it seems to be working well or we wouldn't all be here, and we are not snowed with spam and all the rest of the cr*ap you get elsewhere.
That being said, I think in this case he is wrong. One can post a head shot of anyone you care to on your profile, and who's to know.. Or it can be 10 years old, or whatever. Your never gonna know until you run into that person face to face. That being said, I personally find some of the profile pics that show a little imagination to be intriguing and am way more likely to take a look at that person than the normal "me sitting on the couch" photo. Most of the photos I have of myself look just like the one hanging in the post office. I have noticed that at least some of the "not human" Main Images have an actual human in the secondary images on their profile. Again, it was that original with a sense of humor, or just a little bit different that got me to go far enough to find that out. Admitted, this does not apply to the std "joke" pics etc. If you have no more imagination than that, I don't wanna talk to you anyway. But isn't that another way to get to know someone a little better initially? Or at least weed out the idiots and/or fakes? Seems to me to be a little more effective than some personality test.
Ok, end of rant... I know this is a long standing rule, but maybe once in a while originality can win out over conformity.
Thanks again Markus | |

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 12:35:47 PM | Well .... I've been away for a few days celebrating my birthday with my daugthers and I'm tooooooooooooooooo tired to read all the posts. It took me a while to post pics. Just didn't feel like exposing myself to the unknown, but since then, have changed my mind. I did post a pic of my puppy and not as my main pic and it got deleted. Not a big deal!!! I do find it entertaining when someone has interesting pictures and an even more interesting profiles, but I guess is does make sense to have a presentable main image. I'm all for it !!!! In my search I have found the pics do not make the person, it's what they say in their profile and who they are when you meet them, that make ups the person they are. | |

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 12:47:31 PM | AT 39 I retired from Sales and Marketing...not only am I lucky but I do know my trade very well. I have used several different techniques to see which type of profile gets the most action...first i posted a professional pic of myself and named myself blahblah sweet....after a month i posted a web cam shot of myself and named myself blablah naughty... the response was huge... so i thought i would try iamworthit and use a web cam pic of myself in a little sundress. from shoulder to hips showing curves but no flesh. I honesty got over 100 emails a day... the pic of my body brought the men and the intelligent profile kept their attention-- it is advertisning...it is marketing... there is a lot of competition out there. Maybe alittle more time should be spent figurin out how to separate the married men from the non married men.... the 66 year olds that say they are 56....censoring the picture of a curvy woman body in a dress is riduculous....
But what do you expect...it's a free web site.. any homless person with 3 bucks can get on it at an internet cafe and pretend to be the king....maybe we should take a look at other places to "market our selves"

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 12:49:44 PM | Whatever happened to a picture is worth 1000 words?
I agree with many on here, and disagree with others, if I wanted to see the skin magazine pictures I'd go buy a Playboy magazine.
I can understand the main picture being of yourself, but I have no problem with seeing the pictures of dogs, sunsets, houses, motorcycles, cars, and whatever else makes or defines a person.
The dog picture! I have an ankle biter dog, and if I meet someone on here that has a dog that's cool. We meet at a park to let the dogs play, BUT if the other person has a Rottweiler, my dog would get stuck in it's teeth. Wish I would have seen what kind of dog she had!
The tattoo pictures! Some tattoos are tasteful, while others are a bit graphic.
I agree with the main photo NOT being a body shot. I'm not going to meet for coffee and walk around the restaurant asking people to lift their pant legs so I know who I'm looking for from a leg shot!
At the same time, a little known trick is to click on the picture and like Magic there's several other ones which include head shots, and pictures of the profile holder!
I'm sure with posting here, my profile will be viewed, and my American Flag picture with the word VET on it might get voted off the fish pond, but it's not my main picture. It's also mixed among several other pictures of ME. If it results in putting on my Class A uniform with the flag patch on my sleeve and my mug in the picture SO be it. I'm a proud veteran and the flag patch does represent me.
Like with sending someone a message, I sometimes forget to click on adding a picture, but it's not the end of the world. Click to view profile and again like magic there they are.
Maybe the vote the picture off the pond option should be for JUST the main photo.
I for one have clicked on the awesome sunset picture to view a profile. It's a nice picture, now let's see who took that picture.
A lot of people list motorcycle riding or long drives as an interest. Hmmmm there's someone with a motorcycle........now you're interested, because they have a motorcycle, or a truck, myself I'm an avid camping nut. I have a picture of my truck and my camper.
Since not everybody is going to be happy one way or the other, I'm not going to put the picture on my profile and waste time with adding a different one later after it gets voted off the profile.
My one picture I have on my profile (the one with sunglasses and cowboy hat), I've been told by a few I almost look like Hank Williams Jr. in the picture. COOL. Well, I think it's cool anyways.
But not every picture on my profile is sporting a cowboy hat and sunglasses. For the average person it isn't rocket science to see that when viewing my profile!

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 12:50:19 PM | I honestly don't appreciate looking through the profile's on a search and staring me in the face is someones scantily clad form. I would appreciate a face or anything other that that particular kind of picture. If I wanted to see stuff like that I can go to sites and see better ones anyway. People should just be using common sense. If someone wants to see it, they will ask you for it. Don't just put it on display. The same goes for the women too. Leave something up to the imagination. | |

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 1:18:12 PM | | There are a lot of people on here that get in pissy moods - shoot I've been deleted twice - once for my image and the other time? Who knows! Now, they got rid of my main image which happened to be a frog. If I want someone to see what I look like, I'll send them a pic. Having no pic helps weed out the weirdos and let me tell you - there are PLENTY on this site. | |
|
| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 1:18:14 PM | | Hey.. lets be realistic.. not all of us want our face oout there for everyone to see... so whats wrong with using ur favcourite animal.. or a scene u like... as for using someone elses face its wrong but no way to stop it... so a big no from here... | |

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 1:35:29 PM | I was using photos of my career as my main picture. There were photos of myself when you clicked on my profile, but my main picture was a stone carving I did. Previously I had a photo of a stone staircase I built. My career defines me far more as a person than my face. I am a Stonemason. In north America that title does not exist, we have bricklayers. I earned my title with training in Europe and the rest of the world.
Now my limestone pictures (all three of them) have been deleted. As a main picture they were handy in filtering out the weirdos. Now the weirdos are contacting me again. Grr. I really do think that so long as there was at least one picture of the person on the profile, the rest of the photos should not matter, as they are descriptive of the person. In my case, far more so than my genetic features.

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 1:52:34 PM | I find this to be extremely harmful for women....I was once approached in a pub by a guy who obviously had issues and he demanded I talk to him just because he saw my pic here....he became abusive and volatile and I was very scared....
So I removed my pic with my face in it.....now I can not show that pic ...I have to have a face ....
To Admin....You are a man and cannot possibly understand how vulnerable women can be in this world however you state that your girlfriend helps out....I will bet that she has felt vulnerable in her life at least once if not numerous times.
You are also giving petty, immature people the power to censor this site....they have their own agendas that are certainly not professional....
My pic was removed and so I put it back but not as my MAIN pic and yet it was deleted again....your also removing pics of sunsets ...how can that be harmful
And for all the people that think that just because we dont pay for this site we should just suck it up....this site brings in plenty of revenue to the owner...via advertisements.....I am sure he is not doing this completely from the heart as he has to eat, pay a mortgage/rent....pay for the overhead associated with running this business....
I would warrant to say that if a women is approached in public like I was by someone with issues and it results in violence I would like the media to "run" with it and state that site administrators cannot demand that people show their face unless they are comfortable ...hopefully a lawsuit would come of it...then this site will be shut down cuz there is no money to run it.....
Think again Admin about the power you are handing to people that you can not deem responsible and professional.

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 1:57:57 PM | | Well can we at least choose the body parts we want to see on the women? Sounds good to me! Alright ladies, get ready to bare it! lol Oh alright, I'll settle for a headshot! Oooops, gotta go, hear someone calling me! Exit stage right----------------------------> | |

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 1:58:54 PM | | I so agree with you emerald121. We should feel like it's our chioce. I see how they can can no nude pics but a pic of my dog should not be seen as a threat! | |

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 2:11:00 PM | Well, i may be new here but not new to lifes experiences..being in show biz over 18 years allowed for my review of countless photos of interested talent. The models & talent depended upon having a GOOD HEADSHOT which I preached to all. Bad photo no booking. Your life was your pictures. Misrepresentation was the worst thing someone could do both as an agent and model. Sure there was nudity but it was in good taste. The Partial nudity I observe here is pornographic in comparison.
I tend to think people take advantage of a good thing like "free" fact is this is a very liberal site that allows for freedom of speech. No where else on the web including PAY sites does this freedom exist. You have to respect the creators wishes in wanting to run a respectable site. The problem arises when disrepectful people join. Anytime honesty is voluntary there will always be the "percentage" of those whom are dishonest.
I really enjoy the personality search features as I was a psychology major who studied Freud & Jung theories. I mean a dominatrix was advertising her services when i ran a personality search, pictues included. . Something must have spooked her because the next search she became the "girl next door" in her ad. How honest can this person really be ? "To catch a PREDATOR" on Dateline has exposed the internet for what it truly can be and anyone whom advertises or solicits must be approached with caution.
It was one of these shows that in fact mentioned this site and a young lady here who had been in contact with a known fugitive in the kentucky area. That dosen't mean the site is "bad" it means "bad" people sometimes join these sites to prey upon others. I tried to post a headshot in accordance with my own standards, it can only help those truly serious about "meeting" others with a guideline. 1) Headshot 2) full body shot that is all we ever asked for in the 18 years of showbiz I was in.
Regards to all and thank you for a FREE SITE and the freedom of expression it allows for.
Sincerly,
Bigrubi | |

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 2:11:12 PM | | Personally, I don't have a problem with the rule, but I wish you would have notified me before you deleted it. Well, I could have missed that notice. But, now that photo is lost. It was just a photo to pique someone's curiosity. Nothing dirty, but I would have happily made it a 2nd or 3rd photo. Other than that, I like this site. for the most part. | |
|
| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 2:17:09 PM | I wish you could come up with some sort of compromise so that provided there was at least one head shot then the jokes and cartoon images could stay.
Half the people on my favourites list were put there because of something funny I either read in their profile or they'd posted as an image.
I understand that this is a free site and run by one guy or some such thing but the emoticons available to decorate our profiles still show Christmas decorations. And it's not as though other features haven't been added -- it seems like there's a new one once a week.

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 2:26:22 PM | i'm uncomfortable.. if you require a user's main picture to be a headshot (which in and of itself is not TOO unreasonable), then where is the logical separation between having no headshots and having no pictures at all? Someone may not want to post their face, but they're thus not allowed to post a picture of their legs, or their decent-looking torso or silhouette? They have to have NO pictures? Why then are users even allowed to have NO pictures? Are you prepared to start deleting profiles with no pictures posted?
I hate fake profiles, spambot profiles, etc.. but if a person chooses to post no pics, bad pics, or irrelevant pics, as long as they're not overtly fake, it seems like it's up to them, and it only hurts their chances of being contacted (provided that people use common sense while contacting people). Why do we have to make laws on things that people should be self-regulating? If there are abuses of the system, then the system needs to adapt to handle those abuses, while not hurting the people who mind their own business and do things right.

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 2:27:23 PM | | oh, it's okay, I also met a guy that I saw on this site and we each got a big kick out it, we actually laughed about it, now we are friends and he goes to the dances with my singles group, so something good can come out of this site. | |

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 2:49:49 PM | I don't know if any of you all noticed, but I think The Powers That Be have modified the website over this weekend and into today. If I remember correctly, over the weekend I think all pictures on profiles could be selected for deletion by other PoFfers. Now it seems to be just the main photo.
I should be able to put my pic of my dog on my site if I want to! This isn't your site. This isn't M y S p a c e. This is PoF.
I think the general rule of heads in primary photos is a sound idea. It's been the actual rule on here ever since I posted a profile here a year and a half ago.
There's no rule saying you have to post a pic on your profile. I understand the concerns of people who don't want a pic. What I don't understand is why they feel the need to post non-human pics on their profile. This isn't an art museum, it's a dating site.
I also think it's a good idea to have members alert a moderator of the ridiculous nature of many of the profile pics. However, it might not be such a good idea to let the inmates run the asylum. No doubt there are lots of scorned people on her forwarding people's pics as inappropriate. It does seem a bit arbitrary to have pics disappear simply due to user input.
There probably isn't a great easy solution to this headless-torso rule other than have somebody occasionally look through a list of user-submitted pics for occasional review. If there is a objectionable pic in a main profile photo, that user could have their picture posting priviledges disabled for a period of time.
I'd also definitely try to keep track of ISP addresses. Moderators can delete profiles and sure enough they can almost immediately reappear. Ghost and multiple profiles also seem to be a problem too.
|
| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 2:51:58 PM | This whole idea of reporting a person's pic just seems so so wrong.I hope those that have reported harmless, main images of sunsets, limestone, legs, dogs, frogs & bikes etc...realise that the smug expression that they will probably have on their face...will soon give way to the pinched little features of a very bitter person.

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 3:02:43 PM | Oh NOoooooo! My cupcakes and cookies are gone!!! I liked having a choice ... sometimes I'd have my headshot show, at other times I'd choose something that reveals something about me (NOT body parts, BTW!!!). I got lots of responses to my cookies and cupcakes, and it wasn't like my face wasn't included in the profile because it always has been... and it is really me!
Especially when I write in the forums, I liked having that choice... oh well. *sigh*

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 3:06:58 PM | If I may play devil's advocate... if you are going to set standards for the main picture why not require it to be a full body picture, standing OR seated,. That way we get rid of SOME of the complaints about head shots not revealing obesity, missing limbs, wheelchairs, whatever. I'm sure dishonest members who want to conceal such issues will probably find a way to get around it... Just a thought and believe it or not I've heard other members say pretty much the same thing in the forums.
Ahh ..... lol madame you don't have a full body shot also lol so...... lol I think if that were to happen, it would be a bad thing for the site in my opinion
By the way, what is wrong with a person in a wheelchair??
I think this is sort of a good idea, but it shouldn't be up to others to delete another persons pics, that is not a good idea I feel.
IF it's a pic of someone else, or a cartoon, or someone or something that is not the actual person then thats ok to report.

| Reporting And deleting Main images Posted: 4/9/2007 3:19:16 PM | | What I see is this after reading a good number of the postings by the members. I see this turning into a witch hunt soon enough. I do feel that some standards need to be set...like NO PET photos...and so on. I would be in favor of a full body photo...sitting or standing....whatever. Just as long as it shows all of you....and not from 200 yards away too...OK..! I have seen a few photos that you need a microscope to be able to see the person in the photo. In fact most were from so far away that you can not even tell if the person is male or female. | |
