I was at a local pub this weekend (for the band playing) and met two guys from the UK. The way I met them was because during intermission some juke box music was playing and I was grooving to the beat. They scowled and asked how could I dance to that trash (it was kind of rap music but had a really good beat). They moaned and groaned about the music and voiced their opinions about what was "good music". I agreed with all the bands they voiced a like for, but hey, I tried to get them to step out of the box and try something new. Didn't work for them, they continued to scowl and complain.
How is that for a sense of humor? eh?

well im sure your right , but in genral brits are renowned for our sense of humor and reserved attitude.... america is and has been put down for its love of itself many times .. we as brits like the use but at times they do believe there own hype! and step on to many toes to boot.. but i am always polite with anyone unless someone makes it personal or tell lies as i dont lie!! were all entiteled to opnions for and against .. but to me who the hell cares what pics are on here as long as they are not naked or nasty .. i mean no one tells u to adjust ur personality and to some the pics they out on are a peice of them .. or is it im just british and we dont make a battle out of everthing !

Sometimes in any society, if there are no rules, then some will take the extreme advantage of any situation. Any study of civilization will attest to that. We have to have some guidelines or rules and then operate freely within them. I do not think the rule is outlandish. There must have been a lot of things happening for the admin to make that decision. I am sure they did not do it on a whim to simply control people. Also, a lot of people have it wrong....you can post your 'primary' pic as 'this is the person in this profile' and then post other secondary pics of a variety on the inside for your individual expression. Pics are not removed unless a peer reports you for one reason or another, as a rule. So sometimes you might look to your peers for that occurring. Also another point that a lot of people seem to have missed is that you are not required to post a pic to have a profile. Some people have stated that or asked why that is, and that is not the case. You have a choice, post your face picture as the primary or do not post a picture at all.
I have been on the on-line dating scene for about 7 years. I have been on many different sites, paid for in most cases. They all have strict rules. POF is one of the best I have been on, one of the freest sites. For this reason, some will take advantage and push the limits. The admin is simply working to keep a bit of order here, not too much to ask for this place where I have met lots of interesting local people. On past sites, it was a real gamble to meet people who did not show their real face. I am not a shallow person, but you and everyone knows that there has to be some kind of an attraction, a mutual attraction, to be willing to meet someone you are contemplating a personal relationship with. Pictures are not the end all be all. I like to write on-line for a while to get a feel for who that person is, if an initial attracion presents itself. Then progress to a phone call, and eventally to meeting. For me that takes time. I do not want to invest that time in someone that I would have absolutely no physical attraction to, unless we agreed to just be friends. I met one fellow, said I just want to be friends, and he became a real flake over it. Well, he hid his body well in the picture and posted his body type as average, but when we met he was well over 300lbs. I am not intested in making a life time relationship with someone that I cannot share physical love with, and I could not do that with this person. I am active and play tennis, volleyball, hike, etc. He would never be able to share that with me. I wish I had known he was not 'average' from the get go. Still I said I wanted to continue to talk and be friends. He would not. Oh well.
Point is, that while a mug shot is not everything, I think it is important, as well as honesty. As I stated before, I am a visual person. No matter what you look like, I like to know the 'face' I am writing to. It is important to me.

What would (and do) you do if a person has a pic of themselves wearing nothing but swimming trunks?
Ex. a guy at the beach
OR a woman wearing nothing but a bikini?
Ex. A woman at a waterpark or beach
Would you be complaning about not wanting to see some guy's hairy chest or some woman's boobs in a bikini?
If you're at one of these places and see someone with a body you don't like are you going to tell them to leave or go put clothes on?
If you don't like it that's fine. You're entitled not to, BUT you're also entitled not to look at it either!
Do you think all the guys on here care to see pics of a 300 pound woman in a bikini? No, but some women that large chose to use those pics and that's their perogative.

What are you going to start doing, censoring EVERYTHING on the net?
There are sites that tell you how to steal free satellite, hack cable tv boxes, hotwire a car, make your own homemade drugs, etc. on the net.
ANYTHING, you want to know or are curious about can be found online.
That doesn't mean everyone is going to go out there and do these things.
This information is "allowed" to be available though for informational/educational purposes (and believe me, although some of those things may seem shrewd and non-useful to you, there is ALOT that can be learned from it and used to actually do productive things).
There recently was (and I'm sure still is) some debate going on about sites that are up and running and showing women how to lose weight and be anorexic. Now sites like this may be harmful (just like many of the other aforementioned ones CAN be) but, it's free speech and is protected by the consitiution.
It is this freedom that allows people self-expression.
Would you rather be living in a society run by Dictatorship? Communism?

After reading through this entire thread, it seemed to be a testament to the overwhelming sense of entitlement people get once they begin using something, even if it isn't theirs. The length of it is a testament how people will misinterpret a simple statement or rule.

I really did believe you ratted on me because I pissed you off in some way, and the new policy said anyone could report anyone. At the time all of my artwork (secondary pics as well were deleted.) That really ticked me off because I spent many hours doing that artwork, lol and I have Tendinitis in my drawing hand, so it painful.
I really did like Your Truck in The Tree picture, it made me laugh my ass off everytime I saw it somewhere. I hope you accept my apology because Artists don't like their work deleted or censored without even a warning first.
I really don't think this Policy is going to work at all. I noticed a guy posting on here with a bag over his head for a main pic. WTF? Then people posing in their undies as a main pic or having the nipples exposed is ok? But decent non-pornographic artwork isn't? Umm that is just so wrong on so many levels. So breasts is a physical allowable feature but something drawn by hand that belongs to a single female, is deleted?
Bikeman you said dating sites shouldn't be a place to display art and other things. Yet your main pic is of you and your bike. Your whole profile says you are into that scene.
But it's not ok for artists to display artwork in the hopes of dating or being friends with another artist? I liked clicking on profiles that have art on the Main page. I miss the Fairy Pics that someone had up, I don't even remember the profile name but I remember the Pics, some of us remember better that way. LOL
It is true that alot of people with no pics up can be really rude. One guy told me to kill myself, another Im'd me for sex even though my restrictions were for Dating or Long-term. I think it is Stuff like that that needs to be policied, and yeah guys will say dating or long-term on their profiles but as soon as ya start communicating it's all about NOOKIE. | |
