I think part of the problem is that in the "RATE NEW/ANY IMAGES" area, there is no differentiation between "Main" images and "Secondary" images. I think personally that the face shot requirement is wrong. I met a wonderful man on here who had absolutely no picture of his face up, only a beautiful shot of himself turned 3/4 away from the camera that showed off a gorgeous tattoo. His picture has been deleted. Others I know have used interesting shots of their pets, vehicles, whatever.
Personally, I think that any photo should be allowed as long as it is yours or one you took. Your visual expression of yourself can say so much about you. Someone who is maybe not themost beautiful in the world may have photographic talent, an amazing garden, or a fantastic view from their deck. Why punish them for wanting to show that off? Likewise I think a torso shot that is not headless should be allowed - a weightlifter has the same right to show off his art as a photographer. Then we get into the problem between a man showing off a chiseled chest and a woman showing off a D++ cleavage. So mister Admin....it may be that leaving the image deletion completely up to the population at large may be not a good idea. How about setting up a database where a pic has to be "rejected" by a number of people before that image gets canned?

I had a picture of my crossed legs as my main image. I did this mostly for the sake of anonymity. I did not want people from work, my kids and their friends etc to easily come across my profile. A blank picture indicates that one has something to hide and would hardly get a response so that is not an option. All my secondary pictures included my face. Alas, someone reported me and i got a stern warning from POF not to do it again or else.

This seems to be a done deal. But, what is the rule with secondary pics? The images section says that "All pictures MUST contain you in it with a visible head shot at minimum." But the admin guy says we can post a pic of our dog.

Which one is it?

To briefly touch on what I posted on 4/21/07. I am still curious as to have anyone else experience the situation I brought up. Any other occurrences of having your profile totally deleted with no admonishment, etc. I have read several post of members having their pics deleted, but it appears they were warned, etc. And, after creating another profile, I cannot upload a pic of torso (of course, not as main image) that is in no way nudity, just expression. Please do not take my comments as complaining, but as fuel for understanding and discussion.

nicefocus you cannot do that now with torso pics. It is on the upload pic page.

With such interesting points of view and ideas maybe you should stand beside Al Gore and help fight against Global Warming .
It is so much more important than fighting to have your abs or muscles showing on a picture to try to entice women to like you !!

Excuse me Astrea?

No, I'm sorry but I don't have to "entice" anyone to like me.
They either do or they don't. I could care less! lol
I have done more for people, including so-called "friends" in my lifetime than people (aside from familly), have ever done for me.
I don't have to prove anything to anyone. I know the kind of character I have/the kind of person that I am, and it's by far a greater (when I say this I mean I have qualities that seem to deminish in people more and more each day, like compassion, care, loyaly, honesty, etc.) quality person that many out there.

As for your snide remark.
I have a full body shot, yes. What about it?
It takes A LOT of discipline/hard work to achieve and maintain a good physique. Sitting on your a$$ doesn't cut it. A good physique is more than just about how one looks. It's also about being healthy.
A full body pic just goes to show that one takes pride in their health & appearance and that they're in good physical shape.

That's all.

My main pic, plus numerous other pix, are headshots. On May 28th, Memorial Day, I posted a pic of my USAF medals as shown in the link below, but not as my main image.

It stayed awhile, but it was deleted. Why?

They don't want us to have too much fun , i think that the main pic should be what the user wants as long as its not nude , it makes it fun

My main image was recently deleted... it was a non-copy written head shot of me.

The only thing about it that made it at all different was that it was solarized. I liked my photo, and the rules do not state that we can't use any sort of photo editing- according to the "image posting rules" my photo was not a violation... yet the message I received says that if I'm caught violating the rules (that I wasn't violating) again, I will lose my right to post images.

Am I allowed to use my current image or not?

I put the pic back since I reviewed the photo rules and didn't say any rule against using this sort of picture.... I also thought it would be easier for you to know what I'm talking about if you could see it.

Thanks,
M

I'd like to know why you would post any photos at all ? Just main anonymous if it's such a big deal. Same thing with all those chaps who post their photo wearing sunglasses and they are like 100 feet from the camera. And how about that gal wearing a mask, maybe she doesn't mean to hide, but the whole purpose of a main photo is to show your face, not your tattoos, your motorcycle, or the can of spam half un-eaten in your current photography works. If you're married, or hiding, just don't post a photo and under marital status, put married or separated. Be honest. Someone will look at your profile and like you for who you are. So, toughen up, y'all.

I understand that the main image has to have a head shot, but why do all images have to have the person in them?

I have a main image (in fact the ONLY image) which is a picture with ME!!!! in it (along with a friend)...and it gets deleted????

WTF????

I see (and report) bogus images all the time...and they are still up. How does my image of MEEEEEEEEE get deleted, with only an automated response as an explanation??

I am putting my picture back up...and if it gets deleted again, then clearly that is a "sign"...hell recent events off the site with people I have met on the site give me reason enough to leave anyway...

I think the images should be head shots as I get a better impression of people if I can see their face. Especially in the forums, when I like a post and I see the person's face, I feel like I know them a bit.

I like to know if the people that don't have pictures or pictures that are cartoons are hiding something. I understand confidentiality to a degree and that's why people have sign on names instead of their real names.

I know some people on this site are married as they have indicated so and want a piece on the side. These people definitely don't have any pictures or have cartoon or magazine pics. I don't understand why they don't go to the sites that are for people who cheat on their spouses. Oh yeah, I forgot, you have to pay for those sites.

Rbrooksman, I theorize that some Lefty kook saw your US army medals, and reported you, and another Lefty kook deleted it. You know, most internet dating sites are managed by people with a left-of-center political view, it's an urban thing. As a US veteran, you were a storm trooper for a right wing, fascist, imperialist, racist society. You deserve death, but since they can't kill you, deleting your medals is the next best thing.

Believe it or not, but politics plays a role in the moderating of any site. Politics is the most powerful motivator for people's actions.

I don't mind the "headshot as main image" rule...so I do understand why potentially some pictures containing people are actually getting deleted.
Sometimes I surf and it's become quite apparent to me that some people don't understand the "headshot" concept and have a main picture which contains them at a distance where you can barely see the features on his face. The picture is as effective as a landscape photo. A headshot is a headshot, which means semi-closeup, so people can clearly see what you look like.
If people don't want to put up a clear photo, they should just leave it blank and say "will send photo upon request". JMO.

My Aunt has a beautiful pair of legs. She put her leg picture here (very clean picture, nice shoes, outside in the sun, nice landscape, etc.) ~ and it was continuously being deleted. So, I cropped her head from another one of her pics, sized it down just a little and put it on her knee in that picture ~ it still got deleted. WTH??? Her head was in the picture ~ it was smiling while sitting on her knee......some people are just never happy.

Maybe people were just a little discouraged by a decapatated head sitting on someones lap :)

I agree that the main picture should be a clear headshot. I quite like to see a body shot too so I know that the person has been honest about body type. If someone also has a picture of their pet or hobbies then that can be quite nice too, as it adds interest and gives you something more to talk about when messaging people for the first time.

It is a good idea. However, when someone's picture is reported, is someone checking to make sure the picture does not meet the guidelines? I had a picture deleted and I don't know why. It was a headshot, maybe a little blurry, but that's it.

Only face shots for main pic is a good idea, But I also think that "non-public" pics should be our choice. If want to show a pic of our torso when we send a msg. that should be our choice.

Public main pic =head shot
Non-Public private pic= our choice
