I think it is your choice to send a torso shot if it's non-public. But if it's full on nudity, they may erase that one. I guess they don't want the site turning into a soft-porn place? I dunno.

Something to consider:
It took me a few frustrating times to figure this out. When you add a photo on the image-update page you browse your computer for the photo and click to add it. Your new photo then appears in your display of eight photos. The new photo also appears on your profile (unless, of course, you've opted for it not to be displayed publicly). What I did not realize at first was that even after that photo is showing YOU MUST ALSO CLICK ON THE UPDATE IMAGE SETTINGS BUTTON to make the new photos update "take."

I was feeling paranoid about certain innocuous pics being deleted when I came back for my next session, and feeling all irritated about it. Then I realized it was my own failure to click on the official UPDATE IMAGE SETTINGS button that caused my pics to disappear.

I know, it's not paranoia if they really are watching you, but I decided my own irritation was unjustified. That said, I have no further comment about those funky headless torsos disappearing...

Update:
OK, ignore the above post. Somebody doesn't like my innocuous pics that illustrated my recent cat-and-mouse tale in the profile. No, it's not me failing to click the Update Image Settings button this time. My pics are definitely being deleted.

Thanks, guys. Throw me on the increasing pile of p!ssed-off POFers, I guess. Maybe the torso guys have gotten me back, although I never reported any of them or anybody else, for that matter. At any rate, no, it's not paranoia.

My main image was recently deleted AGAIN... it was a non-copy written head shot of me.

The only thing about it that made it at all different was that it was solarized. I liked my photo, and the rules do not state that we can't use any sort of photo editing- according to the "image posting rules" my photo was not a violation... yet the message I received says that if I'm caught violating the rules (that I wasn't violating) again, I will lose my right to post images.

The solarization was very mild, my face was not distorted, and it is clearly me in the shot. A mild black and white solarization doesn't seem to be anything to get worked up about... but I keep having this problem, and no one has responded to me in any way except to tell me to come here to have the problem addressed.

(Though last time I did get some friendly messages of "where did your photo go?!" ...

Grr. Just came back to the site, put up a main image of me standing beside a buffalo. My face was clearly there - in fact it was better than many of the main pics I have seen on here as far as showing a face is concerned - and still I get the message "Your main image has been deleted" This is idiocy - I follow the rules specifically as stipulated, and still get this. What gives? Is it someone's personal vendetta against limestone?

The report option would work better, in my humble opinion, if there were an option for specifying WHY you'd reported the person. Just the other day I saw a profile in here, uploaded by a woman who had used a head shot of Kelly Monaco! (Apparently her Jennifer Anniston clip file was empty that day?) The trouble is, when I clicked the link to report her, it said, "does not show the face" -- which left me wondering if the administrators would even believe me, if they didn't know who Kelly Monaco was.

I can understand the logic behind making the MAIN pic a mandatory faceshot. I may not agree.,...but I do understand.

However I have had other pics (NOT MAIN PICS) that were deleted very soon after I put them on the profile. They did not break any other rules..unless you have a rule against "feet at the Disneyland Parade" and "dopey-but loveable dogs" pics. Hmmmmm.

But you say right here in this OP that its only the main pic that must be the faceshot. So......................... I dont get it. Why would POF delete my feet and dogs? Hmmmmmmmmmm .

Surely when admin deleted my NON-main pics admin must have made a mistake. SO Ill put them back up and see if someone on POF decides to delete them again and not tell me why.

Perhaps it was an innocent POF error those other few times. Let's see.

Also I don't understand this:
We have the option to have NO PIC at all, so I don't understand how having an NON-face pic is worse than having NO-pic. Having NO-pic does not show what you look like. And having a NON-face pic of my feet at Disney or my dogs doesnt show waht I look like either.

MY burning questions are:

1)..........So NO-Pic = same as NON-face pic. Why is one allowed and the other is not allowed? Help me to understand the logic here.

2)..........If the rules say MAIN pic has to be headshot then why do other, NON-main, secondary, tertiary...pics get deleted when they dont break any rules, are not obscene.

GREAT IDEA!
There are way too many users with fake pics, with fake profiles, or pics that are copyright such as actors, stars and celebs...
I am getting sick and tired of the users using pics that arent theirs. This moderator should delete and BLOCK those users 4 life!!! Block the IP do whatever you have to do but Dont allow the user to ever come back here if they use fake photos.

Your comprehension skills are lacking....I have a partial shot where part of my face is not showing - it got deleted. Some whiny dipshit reported my PARTIAL headshot and it got deleted...the only problem is IT IS ME . There are a lot of pictures and profiles that I dont personally like or find interesting, but i'm not bored, lonely or pathetic enough to report them to the profile gestapo. People can still and will continue to use fake pics...if you don't like the profile click on the next one...how about requiring EVERYONE to have a picture? That makes much more sense than reviewing people that have actually taken the time to actually post a pic as opposed to whiny morons who dont even have a picture at all but feel compelled to complain about people who do have one.

"No, I'm sorry but I don't have to "entice" anyone to like me.
They either do or they don't. I could care less! lol
I have done more for people, including so-called "friends" in my lifetime than people (aside from familly), have ever done for me.
I don't have to prove anything to anyone. I know the kind of character I have/the kind of person that I am, and it's by far a greater (when I say this I mean I have qualities that seem to deminish in people more and more each day, like compassion, care, loyaly, honesty, etc.) quality person that many out there.

As for your snide remark.
I have a full body shot, yes. What about it?
It takes A LOT of discipline/hard work to achieve and maintain a good physique. Sitting on your a$$ doesn't cut it. A good physique is more than just about how one looks. It's also about being healthy.
A full body pic just goes to show that one takes pride in their health & appearance and that they're in good physical shape.

That's all. "

The same holds true for me on EVERYTHING you have said here Cupid!
Really struck a chord for me so I just had to comment!
Some of us really do have character and have worked hard to be physically fit and appealing ... to ourselves, first! When I see that in others I do not feel a need to put them down. I prefer to find out how they did it and give it a shot!

They should have the option to explain why the picture should be deleted. ie - not a clear faceshot. It's a fake/celeb headshot, person is standing with a bunch of people so that you can't tell which person is the actual POFer. Just my $0.02

I think I said this somewhere halfway back in this thread, but it clearly bears repeating.

Rules are for children. Choices are for adults.

IOW, put what you like on your profile. No one is entitled to judge your choices, let alone police them, except our host, who owns this patch of e-estate.

This seems to be a conflict between the prudes, the jealous, and the humorless, unimaginative, and literal-minded on the one hand, and those of us who try to have some fun on the other. And we're GLAD our profiles disturb you. After all, it saves time for both of us, since you don't approach us at all, yes?

The only part of this that seriously concerns me is some folks' presumption that this is a kind of shopping venue, and profiles therefore subject to the standards of commercial advertisment. Nonsense! If I want to fill my description with nothing but Latin limericks and include nothing but pictures of my left foot, what's it to you? I'm not a product, and I don't care what you can tell about the literal me from my profile. All I want to do is elicit interest. It's none of your concern how I go about it. Or is it my business to police your cheesy, illiterate profile? How about a rule forbidding blurry pictures? Or pictures with clowns in them?

OK, one other thing would concern me, except that it's centuries older than the interwebs, and some chumps will never get shed of it. None of us is under any obligation to be ashamed of our bodies, especially NOT becaue you are ashamed of yours. Naked is not evil. However, your demented, kneejerk, anti-sexual reflexes are evil. But I want you to put them in your profile, so I can stay all the way away from you. See how that works?

Oh, and Rita? You know I love you, and it's from the heart when I beg you for more cheesecake. For us gourmands. Please?

Cheers!

REALLY Admin ???
Then why did YOU delete all my tattoo pics ?
The pic of me standing beside a tank ?
IF it's only the MAIN pic that needs the clear headshot.
I've emailed you, your moderators and still I get contradiction !
Is it the MAIN pic or ALL pics ?
Make up your mind guys !
ALL PICS OR MAIN PICS (have to be clear headshot) ????

2)..........If the rules say MAIN pic has to be headshot then why do other, NON-main, secondary, tertiary...pics get deleted when they dont break any rules, are not obscene.

I'm not sure why there's any confusion or how anyone can miss the LARGE RED LETTERS on the "image page" you use to upload your pics!!!! Rules change from time to time as sites improve and sometimes we may not be aware of changes however every single time you go to upload a pic it clearly states on the page.........in large red letters..(that I can't put here..lol)
"ALL pictures MUST contain you in it with a visible head shot at minimum" I mean really....you can't miss it and it clearly says "ALL" and the words "visible head shot"!!!!
I think it's great that it's stated right there where the uploading is done so there's no question about it!!!

Help me to understand the logic here

I think it's very logical! No pic has no chance of deceiving anyone ..... by perhaps using someone elses pic. (Other than the person not describing themselves accurately of course!!). You also have the ability to block anyone with no pic showing if you're afraid they'll deceive you by their description.

A pic without a visible face shot however CAN be a pic of anyone off the net!!! Even animals etc that others may find cute and alluring may belong to someone else! I've seen duplicate shots on various sites used by entirely different people who lifted them off the net. Some people are even "ballzy" enough to include a face that's not theirs!!! However by insisting that all pics have visible face shots it cuts down on the theft of other's pics to attract someone especially when it's required in ALL the pics posted. I like that rule!

^^^I see that logic. Why are pictures of ME being deleted when I upload them. ME!! My whole self! STILL gets deleted, with face showing.

Unless whoever reported it was offended by the Bison in the photo with me. Common! Gives the perfect excuse to say "What a cow!" when you dislike what I have to say...

Wow, this debate's still raging.

OK then, if any random humourless control freak in a pissy mood can choose to delete my pictures, then how about offering the rest of us the option to delete profiles that say nothing and tell us nothing about the person? Or how about the ones that say "blah blah blah" for an entire paragraph to get by the minimum character limit? Can I report those? Because let's face it, those people are WASTING MY TIME!!!!!

I'm quite frankly tired of reading through all the profiles that are illiterate, written in all caps, or say "if you wanna know just ask". Or how about the ones that are looking for a 'good-hearted woman?" Can I have the option to delete those?

I mean, really, I can understand the request to not post pics of a pornographic nature, but to be honest I'm a lot more intrigued by people who will post pictures of their artwork, their garden, weird-looking vegetables, or a bizarre cartoon, than by an endless parade of face shots that all blur into sameness after 5 minutes.

No offense Admin, but you're turning this site into a dating subdivision. *yawn*

Wow, this debate's still raging.
I'm not debating anything. I simply pointed out exactly where the rule is that states very clearly that ALL pics must have a visible head shot and that it's stated in a location one can't miss because it's right where we upload our pics!!!
I also explained why no pics are not as harmful as pics that don't include a face! No debate..just stating the facts!

OK then, if any random humourless control freak in a pissy mood can choose to delete my pictures, then how about offering the rest of us the option to delete profiles that say nothing and tell us nothing about the person?
I'm not sure who you're referring to deleting your pics but you do have the option you're requesting. It's done by creating your own site and seeing just how easy it is to deal with thousands of members who all feel differently about the same topic! What you may see as "nothing", someone else may see as "enough". If everyone had the same right you just asked for, there would be very few pics, a low number of profiles, and a site with very little members left!

Or how about the ones that say "blah blah blah" for an entire paragraph to get by the minimum character limit? Can I report those? Because let's face it, those people are WASTING MY TIME!!!!!
You may report anything you find offensive but if you see that on a profile and are bothered by it, why not just click on to the next one! Seems to me that would take up less of your time than reporting it!

I'm quite frankly tired of reading through all the profiles that are illiterate, written in all caps, or say "if you wanna know just ask". Or how about the ones that are looking for a 'good-hearted woman?" Can I have the option to delete those?
Every member on here is unique in their own right. How they choose to express themselves is up to them as long as it's in an acceptable format as stated in the rules. IF you aren't attracted to members who you feel are illiterate, write in caps or state particular things that you don't like reading....than pass on to the next one. It's as easy as that!

No one said they have to all be face shots just because they must include the persons face in the pic so others can be sure it is a shot of that person. Those pics of artwork, gardens, etc may be interesting but they can keep them off the main profile and send them to whomever they'd like or exchange email addresses where any pics both members choose to exchange can be shared. As stated before, keep in mind that many of those pics you admire may not even belong to the person displaying them and may present copyright issues. I saw a great pic of an angel protecting a fireman....on several profiles. It was a copyright from 9-11. I highly doubt the members obtained permission to use that pic and that could cause serious problems for the site! By making sure it's the member in all pics, those kind of issues won't arise.

No offense Admin, but you're turning this site into a dating subdivision. *yawn*
Yes, there are those who understand all the efforts by the Admin who created this site and all the work the Mods put in to keep this place up and running for thousands of GUESTS to enjoy, and then there are those who just don't get it because they're too busy *yawning*!!!

I still think it would work much better if when reporting a pic if you had to give your reasons why. I have just put my pic of myself and the bison back up... It would still be much wiser if whoever is reporting images has to say why, and be a valid reason. Deleting a picture which actually has the person in it (yes with head visible) should not be allowed. I need reason, not getting the message that my picture which follows guidelines as specified is unacceptable. I am a silly person, it is nice to be able to give my introductory shot as something which represents me. Just my face does not.

I'm sure it's frustrating for you ^^^ if you're following the rules and it's still being deleted.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps some voters who have read "animal pics aren't acceptable", are voting to delete the pic because they think that all animal pics regardless of who's in them are unacceptable. The other thing is that if they're voting really fast they may not even see you in the pic, or feel that your face isn't really clear enough to determine who you are. Those are only some guesses.

I'd like to add that I think you're very pretty and ALL your pics have a distinct character about them! Why not try one of the other ones as your main pic, and use the one you like with the bison as an additional one? If it still gets deleted perhaps you can take another pic with the bison where you're more visible.

I'm sorry that you're having a difficult time with this and I hope it works out for you.

back to the original question: i see no reason for it to be a "head shot". it can contain your face in the picture (eg, a pic of your whole body), but i see no reason for everyone to have a bunch of yearbook photos as their main pic.

I want to see 2 shots: a head shot and a full-body shot, fully-clothed. No kids, friends, cars, or pets, either as a main pic or with the person. They distract me.

Some pics, I can see a woman and her friend, and I cannot tell who is on POF and who is the friend. Even the hair colour is not a clue, because on too many pics, the hair colour they list is not the same as in all of the pictures.

The other things that annoy me are when the pictures are fuzzy or when they are so dark that you cannot see the person.

Sometimes a person has no control over the quality of the picture, usually when an older photo is scanned. If someone doesnt know what they are doing resizing photos can be tricky too and can lead to fuzziness. But I do agree there are a lot of dark and fuzzy photos out there.

I dont think it is appropriate to post photos of your kids. If you are posting pictures with friends you really should make sure to let the friend know that their pic is on a dating site! Some people may not be too happy about being posted. Pets and cars are ok with me.

Aiyi yi yi yi...I still don't understand what everyone is so confused about and I swear people don't read!!!
Right on the "image page" where you upload your pics....where it's pretty darn hard to miss...it states in LARGE RED LETTERS "ALL pictures MUST contain you in it with a visible head shot at minimum". It doesn't say ONLY head shots. It says you must be in the picture and your head must be visible!! PERIOD!
You see, you're complaining about something that's the way you want it and I just posted that a few posts up.
Now be happy!!

Aw ... you're all babies!
Its like a catalogue here when people browse,
get used to it!
Stop trying to re invent the dating site wheel!
A clear head shot and a body shot with your face in it
is what the people viewing you want to see most!
You are doing this mostly for the people you want to look at you!
NOT mostly for you!

If you want your viewers to see your creative work
set up and account at m y s p a c e or flicker and refer
people to it! Same for kids, cars, houses, bla bla bla!

Personally (and this is only my opinion), I want to see all of the pictures posted to be of the owner of the profile - not of their hobbies, kids, pets, nature (unless they are in the picture)... I want to see what the person looks like. I don't care what the Pacific Ocean looks like (I can get that from National Geographic). I also find it frustrating to see pictures where the person is far far away or in a group and you can't tell who is who. It's true! I've seen some profiles where the main pic is a group picture and the rest are of scenery. Now, how does one figure out who is who? This is a website to promote yourself for dating or friendship, so why not show your nicest, clearest and true-to-likeness pictures?
