All of you people who are complaining about what the guys said must not have any bachelor guy friends.

And besides... women do the same EXACT thing.

I've worked with groups of women and they referred to various guys (including ones that some of them liked) behind their back as: baldy, beer-gut, Colonel Sanders, Mr Clean, the hairy gorilla, monkey-face, squirrel boy, the Midget, and the list goes on and on...

If you've ever seen a group of laughing women get quiet when you approach chances are that you were on this list too, but most of these guys never had a clue.

I remember that at a more recent job a black girl tried to take it to the next level and make fun of an asian guy straight to his face.

It all backfired on her though when he responded by dubbing her braidedness as 'the Predator'... and ever after that's what all the guys knew her as (haha).

Some of you people should get out and meet people to develop some more skin - you'll probably be a lot happier and not nearly as bitter.

dreaming of you reminded me of a book I read:
The Girl Code: The Secret Language of Single Women (On Dating, Sex, Shopping, and Honor Among Girlfriends) (Hardcover)
It is an easy read, and I found myself nodding in agreement to many of the chapters.
We do not actually name anyone we are dating, but give them nicknames until we find out they are a keeper. It is too much strain on our friends to give them real names like Bob, and John, and Joe, and Shawn and much easier to keep track of with obnoxious nicknames, like Elvis, the Fat Guy, and I am going to be nice and stop there. But women know what I am talking about.
The difference is Mars and Venus.

Not all women do that either. When I was younger once I referred to someone I was dating as Howdy doodie to my friends because he was younger than me. But I was also young at the time. People do grow up. I use thier names don't name thier private parts because most men I date even if it doesn't work out are friends. I don't know many women or men that do as you and dreaming suggest but it might just be an age thing or maybe location?
I don't see why "people should have to grow a thicker skin" and accept childish behavior. I also don't see that someone who wants respect would automatically be termed "bitter" Mean words hurt and those that use them are generally very insecure or totally unaware of how thier actions or words effect others.

I think R was just being a smart ass leaving a smart ass voicemail on his buddy's phone dogging him, and because of the PC climate, you guys are making it more than what it is. Go after Don Rickles too while you're at it. He gets paid for it! At least you got it for free.

OP, you mention in your post that R is 4 inches shorter than you. You seem to imply that's a bad thing. I guess we could start a similar thread about you and about this shameful, horrid, derogatory comment you made about R's height. Oh, gee, what kind of bad, bad person are you? Let's not continue our friendship you short-man hater you.

Good lord, judging a person based on one sarcastic comment they make. You know, if you really, really were into R,his message would've been the kind of thing you would've given him a playful slap on his arm while feigning mock indignation, unless you're very rigid with a very little sense of humor. Which leads me to think that you're very rigid, otherwise this wouldn't bother you. It just wouldn't. So, in a sense, you're right! Cut off friendship with him, because you two wouldn't get along.

Guys have there own code for everything.. I'm glad that J told your friend and was honest, that makes him a man in my book..

As far as you seeing R, I wouldn't, but that's up to you.. He sounds like an *ss to me..

But then again maybe this is how the 2 friends talk.. Not meaning anything other the "man speak" but only you and your gf can figure out if your willing to accept that or not..

I am curiose to see if J hangs out with R while with your friend.. That would maybe tell you more about him...

well if anyone said that about my friend or to one of my friends about me the situation would be the same....we would probably tell him right where to go and have nothing to do with him...i know some women do that as well but we are not like that i believe you treat someone as you want to be treated....

Someone a ways back mentioned that folks may be reading too much into the comment- remember, we only have one side of the story, if story it is. Perhaps instead of slagging R on this thread, maybe the topic should just be about rude behaviour; what do we deal with it and yet, still be polite?

Judging someone based on one comment- stupid or not, seems a little harsh. I'm with Creativguy on that.

Ok...just to update everyone...my friend and I have had several encounters with both guys over the past couple of weeks and have found out that R is definitely a jerk...nothing has ever been said to him about his comment...he has just voluntarily proved himself to be an A$$...we tolerate his presents in the company of J in a very adult manner and say as little as possible to R but we don't exclude him either...seems to be working so far...thanks to all for all your comments, advice, and ideas...Good luck to everyone!!

Here's hoping that, with examples of good behaviour (yours and your friends) that R will grow up a little and learn not to be such a cad. Glad it all came out without a confrontation. Too bad he revealed his true colours as a twerp, however. Oh well. Good luck, and thanks fer letting me have my say.

Man thats just wrong and mean. I myself love the larger ladies (BBW/Thick). And my friends know this and respect this. But the one thing they would never do is leave me a VM saying something like that.

Are you sure she heard this correctly? What if he said "back of that girl"? Anyways....Obviously dont go out with someone who insults a friend, especially like that.

TxTori42,
I detected a bit of a condescending tone?
If I mention to my friends Bob and I am on the dating cicuit, then they always ask, "Which one is that?" When one gives them descriptive nicknames, then it eliminates the confusion.
You should read the book anyway, as it is good for a chuckle, whether or not you actually agree with the contents.

No condescending tone intended, I assure you I just prefer using peoples names. When I hear people that give use descriptive nicknames so people know who they are dating it generally makes me think there are so many they can't remember thier real name. That is all.

You got a gift. This person you met is obviously an insecure cheapskate . You have more signs than the Vegas Strip. It is obvious you moved on and thats great. I am a good listener and I listen for subtle negative comments when I try to meet someone.

Let him go. He seems very immature and even more rude. I'd be curious if J had said those same words to R. You know, folks won't typically say something to a friend if that friend was really interested and on a date unless that person had already commented on it.

Don't bother with him. He's got attitude problems. Shallow fella.

And if he was my friend and said that about a lady friend I thought something of (especially if she'd picked up on it) I'd be thinking about making a different friend.

I know of some 40, 50, and 60 year old marriages that were perfect that started out with lies and that's no lie. My friend who is 92 married for 60 years to the same man had nothing but beautiful things to say about her man except that he did lie to her aboout money before they were married. He said he didn't loan it to someone but he did. And part of it was her money. She never acted or let on that she knew the difference. Just depends on you. If you see potential, or even like him, you could overlook it. Otherwise, give him a big boot in the A** and say don't come back no mo.
