I have tried a few and some of those that look interesting either do not respond or when they do, you don't fit their perfect idea. I am either too old, too independant, blah blah blah. Also when they find out I had serious illness many yrs. ago that left me with a bad leg that causes me to limp a little, they run away. I own my own home, have a good job, am independant, attractive, smart, all the good things. I too feel like a 3rd wheel when around others, except at my age, all my friends are married and don't do anything except stay at home or babysit their grandkids. I amy be 50 but I don't feel like it or look like it. I have tried going to nice bars and other venues to meet others but most of the time the people I find there are in their mid 20's to early 30's, with someone, or are married. So like you I find myself home most times, staring at a computer, watching tv, or working on my house. It would be wonderful to meet someone to do stuff with, fall in love with forever but I have accepted my singleness and can do just fine, but like you said it gets lonely. | |

After going out to countless social events and writing to women online, I determined the best way for a woman to notice me is, well.....stop trying. It could be partly a slight depression, but I've realized through observation that women seem to see me as "a nice guy they can talk to". I've been trying to work on me, by becoming a better teacher, staying in shape and other stuff, but it's so hard when you are pushing 40 & alone. Im dtermined not to feel sorry for myself, there are others that are worse off.

Yep, that was the way it was for me...I was never good enough for the guys who were good enough for me, the only guys who I was good enough for were not good enough for me. I spent 18 years waiting for the perfect guy to come along, dating a few who were not good enough for me, just to ease the social stigma of being an old maid, but, it was worth the wait. I finally found out what it is really like to fall in love, and it certainly wiped out the pain of being alone all those years. Well, not entirely, the last seven years I had a relationship with a beautiful little dog, who was able to fill a lot of the lonely void...I used to look forward to going home at night, because I knew she was waiting to greet me, but, she could not fill the emptiness of having no human around. Sadly, due to my ill health my perfect relationship has disappeared, but, it did come, albeit it took a long time, and I never really imagined that I would ever find MY man. | |

I have found that the only one who is going to spoil me, is me. Having worked on the crisis center phones for a year, it's amazing how many people are depressed about not having found the right mate. Here in Las Vegas if you haven't gambled all your money away, and can stay sober occasionally, personally, life has never been better. | |

I also think I am alot older than you, and have been solo for a while...I have no answer. I dont even feel like I need a "significant other". I want FRIENDS. GOOD, TRUE FRIENDS. They are harder to find than a SO. Its not the same, granted, but it sure does make the time go nicely.....You are blessed to say that you do have people surrounding you that care. Talk to them and reason out why you feel this way. Don't let Saturday night or another night pass you by. Come on Kristine, lets make the most of your time here - I dont care what night it is. Lean on your friends and get your "ARZZ" out da door and into Life...You wont be alone for long!! Its easier for you to walk out your door with a pal, than it is for me..... | |

Sooo its another Saturday Night at 10 pm and im sitting home alone, typing on my computer, drinking a bottle of aquafina lol. All my friends have serious b/f's or husbands, and im sorry but i hate being the 3rd wheel. the token"single friend" id rather stay home, than always be the 3rd wheel. Heck even posting on this dating site makes me feel like im going to be alone forever, everyone around me is making connections, only ones that email me are old enough to be my father , do i feel sorry for myself, nope, I'm waiting for the right guy to come along, not mr right now, but can i still feel lonely and alone, yep i can. Anyone else feel this way? Does it ever get ya down? ANd please don' t email me telling me i need self esteem, i have it, i love myself, im a happy go lucky jolly fat girl...but i can still feel like im alone, i have friends, but its not the same. ANyone else feel this way?
In a similar boat here. Most that even look at my profile are about twice my age or far off in another state. The profile is suppose to be enigmatic to run off the ladies right now while working on one relationship right now, preferred one at a time. Maybe all us "token friends" should see about getting together for something, anything... just to at least hang out with other "token friends". Who knows, maybe a couple or two will emerge... | |

Posted: 4/25/2008 1:06:11 AM | | One a note here.... don't spend time lying to yourself that you are "happier" or "better off " alone because you will never find any true joy in life no matter how many mountains you may climb or whatever else you try to use to fill the void and pretend that it's "better" alone due to past failures. If something didn't work, change it up a bit and keep changing it up until you find something that works. You can't keep doing the same thing over and over hoping that you will get different results. That's the very definition of insanity. And may be better to follow your hearts instead of listening to all the chatter that your head is trying to tell you in an attempt to rationalize it... | |

Everyone dies. Not everyone lives. Life is short, so enjoy Life. So find a something that you are passionate about & LOVE it. As for other people, who try to hold you back, treat you as if you are the "spare" wheel? Remember you need them as much as they need you. Ask yourself if they have ever introduced you to anyone, or have given you support after all the users & losers that have come & gone from your life. The ones that can look you in the eye & say "yes" are your true friends. Even if you feel like you going to be alone forever, at least you can say that you have LIVED. Can they?
The last thing I want to be one half of a dysfunctional couple. I would rather be single & living than be like that & be alive but lifeless.

I think we all feel like that at times hun, I was in a 10 year relationship until it all went pear shaped. been on my own for a couple of years now. and its normal to feel low at these times,... it would be great to find someone to have a decent relationship with again, but... it aint easy is it,.... soo, I am sat here punching keys at midnight, with a whisky glass by my side... still better to be on your own.. then with the wrong person hun,...
