Personally, I've never had an issue with any of that, and I don't think my friends have either. If you're really worried, you don't have to give out the number. I always ask eventually because I'm curious, and because it doesn't have a big effect on me one way of the other--I don't get jealous of my partners' past, and I date sex-positive people. YMMV.
Oh, and I'm at 10 or 11 at 28 years (with a few years' celibate period in there or there would certainly have been a few more). | |

the number of men and woman you sleep with has nothing to do with STD, sure it may increase your chances,, but it only takes one partner to get STD and you have it,, if someone is asking how many you slept with to avoid asking have you had a medical check up, it is as stupid as saying I only had sex with one person and I must be clean..

I have a couple reactions to this:
1) Hell yeah, get tested! There are a lot of STDs out there, and a lot of them can be asymptomatic and show up mostly on tests. Someone may say they don't have anything, but they're also just as likely not to know unless they've just been tested. Be safe.
2) I'm not sure how number of partners correlates to STD status. Certainly, the more people you've slept with, the more people you've exposed yourself to (er, literally. . . ), but isn't safer sex and recent testing a much better gage of STD status than number of partners? If you've had 20 partners and used full barriers with all of them, risks are likely to be lower than if you've had barrier-free sex with 3 people of unknown status. | |
