| European Champions League. Posted: 5/22/2007 8:49:38 PM | I'm going for Milan but it's been one of those months in the sport. Wouldn't be surprised if Kaka got a red card and Liverpool won 7-0. | |

Utter disgrace!

| European Champons League. Posted: 5/23/2007 6:25:19 PM | Revenge was 2 years in the making....tonight's victory was justice for Istanbul 2005. Every year, the British tabloids lament the "dull and defensive" brand of soccer played in Italy, and every year, the Italians bring home more and more trophies! World Cup and Champions League....not a bad double at all :)
SIAMO NOI, SIAMO NOI, I CAMPIONI D'EUROPA SIAMO NOI!

| European Champons League. Posted: 5/23/2007 7:59:57 PM | Couldnt of won the world cup without the ref's.
just like the match fixing.
|
| European Champons League. Posted: 5/23/2007 9:18:30 PM | Sure, those same refs who robbed Italy in 2002, 2000, etc., etc. If Italy loses, the ref is always right. When they win, oh, the ref must have been bribed. It's a double-standard, but the only thing that matters is the 4 stars on the jersey.
The past year is vindication for all Italian soccer fans. The other countries talk a good game, but in the end, they've yet to deliver on the pitch. Only Spain compares to Italy in the Champions League and UEFA Cup (i.e. Sevilla repeating this year), whereas internationally, Italy is ranked #1 and has won more cups than anyone in Europe and only 1 less than Brazil. Not France, not Portugal, not England, ITALY! You want match-fixing, try Marseille stealing the Champions League from Milan back in the '90s or England winning its only World Cup on a phantom goal against West Germany in '66. Of course, when you have guys like Steve McClaren coaching, it's not surprising England can't win anything. At least Sven won his qualifying matches.
And to rub even more salt in the wounds of the anti-Italian contingent.....Juventus is back, sans-Moggi. Here comes the pain!
|
| European Champons League. Posted: 5/23/2007 9:23:52 PM | | Oh yeah, I noticed the above poster was Australian, hence the bitterness towards Italy's WC win. Italy lost to South Korea in 2002, so suck it up. Australia couldn't beat Italy even though they were a man up for most of the match, so the ref certainly wasn't on our side. At least you can say you lost to the champions! | |

|
| European Champions League. Posted: 5/23/2007 10:37:38 PM | yup, milan won but liverpool played more entertaining soccer. Milan's style was very mature and subtle and that's basically why they won. They played the efficient game. Don't forget milan had a couple of very experienced players on the field (and bench). I think the result's fair because that final in 2005 was a disaster. Now I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope sevilla or barca win the league. I can't stand real madrid right now | |

| European Champions League. Posted: 5/24/2007 12:44:57 AM | | It was a dull final almost as bad as Chelsea v Man Utd, when LIverpool went 1-0 down just before the break i thought they'd come out after half-time and throw everything at Milan, the game never really got going and Liverpool never really looked like getting back into it, Kaka looked every bit world class and best player on the night, well done Milan. | |

| European Champions League. Posted: 5/24/2007 3:09:33 AM | Im very happy. Hopefully it will hamper the rampant liverpool and EPL bandwagoness in Aus.
The ref has the call on the time, none else. it was about 10 seconds.
Typical Aussies to whinge, they have taken over the mantle of supreme whiners from the English.
Forza Milan. | |

| European Champions League. Posted: 5/24/2007 3:10:29 AM | As for match fixers.
Forgetting Liverpool with Grobbolar? Westham and the bungs?
Glass houses. | |
|
| European Champions League. Posted: 5/24/2007 4:34:32 AM | the game is rife with bungs... sad state, but its hearts and players that make the game as beautiful as it is. (yeah, i am not talking about bums and legs.. )
Players with LFC in their hearts... Jamie, Stevie G ect, the passion they show in the game, it out weighs any chance of fixers...
Oh and yeah, the ref was a load of b0ll0x. come on......
as for the fans, no matter what is said, they did us proud, Phil Thompson was spot on.
the Greek authoratioes just were not awear just how passionate we are, i would love to have gone 'just to be there' not that we would have caused trouble, we dont do that. its the sheer injustice, what did we have 17,000 tickets in a ?70 odd thousand seater staduim.... ahem..... there is some fixing there me thinks.....

| European Champions League. Posted: 5/24/2007 4:45:21 PM | i'm delighted that liverpool lost
i've noticed that the scouse fans have turned into wingers about everything anytime they lost, the ref didn't play 10 extra seconds, the 1st goal should have been disallowed, blah blah blah get over it yis lost
sorry just getting my revenge for the amount of crap i went through when arsenal lost in the final last season

| European Champions League. Posted: 5/24/2007 9:30:56 PM | ***************************final notes***********************************
Milan has won as i initially predicted some weeks back (as noted on an earlier post).
Milan: [ some of the attackers:] ...inzaghi........skillful scoring surgeon, deadly opportunist and clutch performer. ...pirlo.....even better than beckham on set plays ...kaka....almost unstoppable & un-markable
-[some of the defense] ....maldini.....this guy will play until age 50 and be better than most who are 1/2 his age! ...kaladze....impressive, reliable ...seedorf....solid
-[the coach] ...ancelotti....much smarter than benitez whom he outcoached! \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
Liverpool [attack] .....all in all..it can be described as useless!....crouch-clueless!
[defense] .......all in all.....inadequate!....inzaghi's 1st goal could have been prevented by a sharp defensive line!
[coach] ..benitez....overrated! --------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Glory- to Milan as european champs..defeating the reds 2-1, and not by PK's
Shame- to Liverpool..who is psychologically damaged in the eyes of the fans and who now must restructure itself (ie. lick its wounds). **************************************************
EPL- an overrated league filled with over-paid individualistic players......if the Reds were in serie A....they would finish FAR from first place!
SERIE A- Like it or not...is still the best soccer league in Europe....and is the gold standard by which all caliber of play is measured.

|
| European Champions League. Posted: 5/25/2007 10:13:13 AM | Italians have the best defensive style, it looks like a wall.
yes it works well for them but it is horrible to watch
Liverpool played better and deserved more but football is sometimes unfair
|
| European Champions League. Posted: 5/25/2007 2:37:31 PM | Italy hasnt played that catenaccio since the early 70's
In the world cup they attacked. In the game v Man u Milan attacked and played them off the park.
In the first half of the final liverpool played better but didnt score. You have to put yoru chances away.
Second hald Milan started to play their game, holding onto posession and passingit around. Kaka got some room.
Spain is no defence. | |
