| Traditional Sunday Lunch or Not?
Posted: 12/16/2007 4:01:11 AM | Love Sunday roast, and me mum taught me well (needed to learn due to 1st wifes lack of kitchen skills and having been brought up on good home cooked food. I actually banned my 1st wife from placing heat near anything I was due to consume) she also taught me how to make pastry, Yorkshire puds and real custard.
Invariably there is only me to cook for on a Sunday as my daughter is at work so not worth the effort, so now I invite a group of female POF friends (aka the coven or my harem as I jokingly call them) once a month in an evening so I can keep my cooking skills honed.
They have had 1 roast from me sofar along with a lasagne, a cottage pie and a home made chicken pie, and I will be doing a new Year roast for them.
As for meat I don't care as long as there is lots of it but I would say pork is my favourite. | |

Lovely gravy (thanks to meat juices and Bisto)
ohhhhh yeah, don't care if it's pork, with apple sauce
Chicken with stuffing
Turkey with cranberries
Beef with mint sauce, and horseradish

Posted: 1/19/2008 2:53:15 PM | Winter I always have a traditional sunday roast usually for the evening meal. My favourite is leg of lamb coated in honey and wrapped in mint leaves. Slow roasted so you can carve it with a spoon. An assortment of steamed veg. plus roast taters and yorkshire pudding. Back in the day of 3 o clock closing I had it timed to perfection. Put the meat on at 12. Then 1 last pint at last orders. Then off home start the veg. put in the yorkies. Then snore the rest of the eveing on the settee  | |

A tip for the OP though:
Wear oven gloves, when taking the tray of hot oil out of the oven (to put potatoes in, to make roasties)......and concentrate!

(roast beef and yorkshire pudding(home made of course!!!) was todays menu!!!!

To be honest, since my accident with Christmas dinner, I haven't dared use the oven, so no traditional Sunday dinners in this house for a while................ 
My burn is healing better than was thought, though (I narrowly missed plastic surgery) and yes, it would have been more sensible, to wear my silicone oven gloves, instead of just using a small, square, heat pad!

Ahh Bliss, or should that be B*stso? 
You know summut, dear lady, that's my idea of Sunday lunch heaven. For the life of me, however, I can't recall when I last had a traditional roast and retired belly full and contented to the lounge armchair to let it all go down aided by a nice chilled pint of best 
Alas, I really wish I could find some fabulous damsel who'd feed me so well. If anyone out there's remotely interested, I promise to scrub the pans and wash the dishes once I've stirred from my roast-induced siesta.

good old fashioned ale house, to suit the needs of the lover of real ale and a bottle of red to wash away the Sunday lunch.
Fact of life nowadays, most pubs serve smooth, but the real ale pubs are still there if you know where to find em.
Next time you go to Flares you'll have to pop into the Scarborough Taps and have a pint or 3 before dancing the night away. | |

Hey, absolutely no problem dear damsel. I wouldn't have offered the services of my dishcloth otherwise, and just proves conclusively to me that there's no such thing as a free lunch.
It really does appear that at least a few of us blokes have to work exceptionally hard for everything that comes our way. As I say though, I don't mind dealing with the pots and pans, but please make sure you leave 'em all to soak in hot soapy water whilst I'm snoring. I'd hate to think I was going to have to scour and scrub for too long and risk breaking a fingernail.
Bless you. I'll be round this Sunday at 1.30 pm with the beer, wine and Br*llo pads.  And for all my hard work and effort, I expect nothing less than a leg of lamb and a steaming hot jam roly poly pudding - served with lashings of home-made custard, of course!
To be frank, Sharpey, I'm getting a bit fed up with me Sp*c*al K diet, and I'm no closer to dropping a jeans' size than I was this time last year.

I like cooking anway, and nothing beats doing a good pile of roast potatoes that you indulgently eat later while watching a movie.
I par boil mine, then drizzle olive oil and sesame seed on top. lovely. | |
