its not just knowing, but also a feeling, and sometimes isnt realized for a long time, but for some is realized right away 
there is different kinds of love, they sometimes get confused.. but when its true love it wont be confusing at all  | |

Posted: 5/20/2007 6:11:13 PM | My man just asked me this weekend how many of my ex's I loved. I think I loved all the main ones, but I am afraid that will make me look like a "love slut". Like I love to early or too often, or I don't know what love is.
But at the time, during the relationship, I really think I loved them. I could only imagine a future with them in it, I would give or do anything for them, they each lasted from 6 months to 4 years.
I told my current man that I didn't know, because I am afraid it will diminish it in his eyes when we finally confess our love. That he will think "I bet you say that to all the boys." | |

I could'nt have said it better. Love is indeed an act and a decision that you make to do something for someone else. Lust eventually fades but when it is true love, those butterflies are replaced by deeper more meaningful feelings that require nurturing (aka work) to develop and grow.
Unfortunately, a lot of people are love addicts and mistakenly think that once the butterflies subside they are no longer in love, and venture off in search of another love high. These people can seemingly 'fall in an out of love' at the drop of a hat.
I would also add that from my experience, in order to experience this kind of love it helps if you first learn to love yourself.

1. Do you think about the other person when they are not there?
2. When you think of them, do you wish they were there?
This may not be love, per say, but if you cannot answer "yes" to both these questions, then being in love is the least of your worries. | |

I love my dog, my shoes, etc. You can love a friend, but it is very different to be IN LOVE with someone. It does something to your soul. It is so rare in our society today, but when it happens, you'll know. YOU JUST KNOW.  | |
