Posted: 7/23/2007 4:45:00 PM | You forget that being Latina is an ethnic description; Latina is not a race. Latinas can be white, African American, Native American, Asian (yes there are many.) The one thing we all have in common is that we speak Spanish. So, don't buy into that racial bias thing and date whom you please -with no excuses to anyone! If a jerk does not appreciate you for who you are, he does not deserve you.

As long as you don't have a racial bias as in treating someone worse in general, then I don't see anything wrong with it. It is your own personal attraction. Some people may be turned off by blondes, does that make them a bad person? No. Some womenmay not prefer a guy who is over 5'6", does that make them a bad person? No. | |

I do think it's WEIRD that you would not be attracted at all to any latino guys. Sort of like a guy who only likes blondes, and refuses to date super-model brunettes. That would be weird to me.

But it might put a chink in a a**** latino's armour.
Also, it might scare some controlling latina wome. Some women want to feel that they can dictate who their friends will and will not date, so as to keep the "sisterhood" together. Anyone who is willing to be open-minded can be seen as an enormous threat to them.
But, do you really want to belong to a society of controlling and possessive people? I'm not into control freaks. Why should you?
I'm not saying that all latinos and latinas are control freaks. See Ugly Betty for examples of non control freaks. But some are, and they're not worth your time and energy. FYI, those same control freaks are also the same ones who don't want they people in their community to branch out and get an education and a good job. | |

Lets be honest… WE ALL have our preferences (I certainly know I do…there are just some types of men I am attracted too and one’s I am not no mater how hard I try…lol)…
I know you are asking a guy but thought I may be able to assist…
So… “no” I don’t think anything is wrong with preferring a “certain type” of man…..however ….I would suggest not advertising “only Caucasian men” on your profile… I totally understand what you mean by this, but please read on as to WHY I suggest this…
The reason is… I made the mistake of doing this a while back on my profile and got a LOT of flack for it… so I removed that from my profile (old profile… right now am revising it so what I have on is temporary) ….and then focused on the qualities I desired in a date (or future partner)… I tend to filter out when I receive emails (sending a polite email back that is just not the right match). I found by posting it on my profile I was offending some men (and women searching for their male friends) and that was NEVER my intention…
I also later realized that it came across as ethnocentric (which is NOT me at all)…

I am sorry that you are so swayed by the tho....no, 'thoughts' is a little too generous, the stated opinions of people who, by their very actions of posting what they must have, showed that they were far more bigoted and opinionated than you, judging from what I've read, could ever be.
You like what you like. Period. Your likes and dislikes have been shaped by years of living in situations that not one of us could guess. They are unique to you. There is a Seneca quote I heard a long time ago that goes, "May the Great Spirit grant that I do not judge my neighbour until I have walked a mile in his moccasins." Like what you like and say so and to the pits with anybody who does not like it.
Just be sure that whatever you put in your profile reflects the real you.

Posted: 10/12/2007 6:06:00 AM | You’re preference is your preference, I had along time in my life I would only date one ethnicity. Here is the thing, later I discovered that it was based of preconceived notions that I had about American women that weren’t completely accurate.
I’ve grown and changed over the years and become more open minded. Now I can honestly say it doesn’t matter to me what nationality or race a woman is.
So what im saying is your preference is your preference there is no fault in that nor do you have control over it so it’s not wrong.
On the other hand, strive to be an open minded person and don’t base decisions subconciously on preconceived stereotypes and prejudices.
Ther is nothing wrong with having preferences, there is something wrong with those preferences being based on closedminded idea's | |

Posted: 10/12/2007 7:26:15 PM | No, it's not wrong. I think a reason a lot of Latinas like white guys is because they tend to be taller and have blue or green eyes. That probably turns a lot of Latinas on. I'm not so tall (part-Spanish myself) and I have dark brown eyes, so when I've dated Latinas they were "surprised" I had eyes about as dark as hers.
Then again, there are white women who only go for Hispanic men. I have some female cousins like that. It all balances out in the end. | |
