Posted: 4/17/2007 5:24:05 PM | Once some time has passed, I usually never go back. Especially if there were issues that couldnt be resolved. If you couldnt make it work the first time than what makes you think things will change if you go back.
There are however exceptions to the rule. My sister and her husband divorced for 12 years and went back. Never say never. But I wouldnt build my world around that hope. Life has no choice but to go on. | |

Posted: 4/17/2007 7:36:40 PM | Same with me and one of my ex's. But then with some of the crap she pulled on me I had it. I finnaly told her off and keep doing that. Still tries to talk to me and I just ignore her or put her on block hoping she gets the message.
Me and my hs sweetheart on the other hand been back together a few times and got closer then drifted, she got in trouble and didnt want to get me involved. Havnt seen her since. | |

Recently I had an ex G/F get in touch with me, wanting to see what the chances were, I told her no way. She could be my friend, but nothing more. | |

Posted: 4/19/2007 6:27:19 AM | Been there, done that. As it was put to me by several ... Why bite the same crappy turd twice! LOL Had to learn the hard way tho. You think time will change things, but in reality, just as most have said ... all the old baggage is still there ... and remembered well. And depending on the time frame, (you didn't mention how long she'd been seeing the new guy), it may be just that you are hurting and alone, and confusing this with wanting her back.

i still talk to some of my exes...because i don't think a breakup should be the end of like a friendship
but i know of a few people that have broken up with their s/o's, dated other people,. and realized that they still want to give it another shot and that they still love one another...
sometimes it works, other times it doesn't...and i gotta say..these 3 couples.ended up working on their relationship, adn they eventually got married..and they have like the perfect marriage now
so for them theyt just needed to realize that they have something good... | |

Posted: 4/19/2007 7:24:17 AM | One should never look in the rear view mirror in situations like that. These people are exes for a reason, But i am sure their might be circumstances that might make you take another look.
Example you say.
If a was in a relationship with a woman that had some fantastic qualities but she was an alcoholic. When she was not drinking our relationship was perfect, when she went on binges, everything went sour. If i ended this relationship because of her drinking and found out years later that she had quit drinking and was a member of AA. Had a history of a few years of being sober behind her. That might be one of the few times when i say yes i might be interested in getting back with her. | |

I did, and it wasn't worth it. The break up was worse the second time around. You're eventually reminded of why you broke up in the first place. Then, you resent the person because you think of the time you wasted when you could have been with someone who could've made you happy.
I never dated others in between, but did go back a couple of times. Exactly as chilady says,
It is worse and always reminds you why you broke up in the first time.
I have seen people who marry the second time round, and it has worked, not me, many are an ex. for a reason.. | |

Posted: 4/19/2007 7:48:29 AM | Yes, I've done it and I was seeing him again up until a few days ago when they same-old issues started to surface again. I felt pretty helpless to change things because he did not want to meet me half way.
Still I don't regret trying again because I could see things from a very different perspective. I think I was blaming myself too much for things not working out the last time around. But now I know that if anything, I tried too hard and compromised too much.
So I guess it wasn't worth it in the sense that nothing changed, I ended up crying and we could not work it out. However, I because I really did love him I had to try again and ended up seeing how much his behaviour had to do with things not working. | |

the very idea of having my ex back -any of 'em- is so disturbing it makes my a***hole pucker up until it hurts! --reconcile with your ex... my god, what an act of lunacy! 
if i had a choice between that or giving birth to a flaming porcupine, i'd be lookin' into that second option.

Posted: 4/19/2007 6:37:11 PM | Once. For three days. And for all the wrong reasons. When we broke up my eldest son was only one year old and there was a viscious custody battle going on between us.
But neither of us was capable of raising my son financially on our own and neither of us qualified for Social Assistance. We both even worked at the same place so if we weren't careful with our homelife baggage we both could have lost our jobs.
In the end we both agreed to allow his parents to raise my son. I moved to Toronto to get a better job but was close to 300 miles away which meant only visiting on weekends.
One Sunday evening on the way back to Toronto I got off the train and sat almost trancelike on the opposite side of the tracks for about an hour. Then I cashed my ticket and tried one more time. Three days later I was back on the train. | |
