| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 7/31/2005 11:20:04 PM | Pacers will be tough. Their success will depend on TInsley staying healthy and Sarunas's ablity to adjust the the NBA.Also, Reggie Miller will be missed BIG TIME.He was Mr.Clutch.Without Reggie and the Pacers get swept last year in each series.Obviously with Artest back the Pacers won't need Reggie's heroics as much and Danny Granger could fill in well along with Sarunas. I don't think people know how good the Pacer bigs are. JO everyone knows but underestimates but Foster gets NO repect and DD will be HUGE along with Harrison. Harrison was a steal,an athletic big center who will keep improving although he is not ready to start because Foster is actually a good player himself.Pacers are DEEP.
Still, you've GOT to be impressed by the NETS. Jason Kidd,Vince Carter,Richard Jefferson,Sareef Abdur Rahim and Kristic........make a nice starting 5 with Clff Robbinson,Jeff McGinnis,Ron Mercer and Jason Collins off the bench.
I don't think Flip is a good coach and so I pick the best team in the East to finish 3rd.The Pistons are the Pistons but Flip somehow doesn't get it done. I have heard rumblings of a trade of Darko for Harrington and a 1st rd pick. This would be GREAT for the Pistons.
I LOVE MIAMI but Riley slept this summer while trying to repair the damage done by his mouth while talking about coaching,he let 2 VALUABLE and NEEDED F/A slept right by.He let Raja Bell go to the Suns and Donyell Marshall go to the Cavs both signed for less than he overpayed Udonis Haslem. The Heat at this moment have NO big SF to counter the T Princes and Ron Artest and Robert Horrys or even Richard Jefferson/Cliff Robertsons. They have NO point who can play Defense.Even if DJ comes back the Heat will not have enough to counter the elite teams at the SF spot.

| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 7/31/2005 11:30:59 PM | | marathon, I only follow the East at playoff time, so have no clue. What about Chicago's chances in doing some damage in the weaker conference next year? They surprised a lot of people, and have some young talent. | |
|
| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 8/2/2005 1:05:49 PM | Chicago has an exciting group of young and talented players. The problem with the Bulls right now is that they've yet to sign TChandler and Big Eddie.Duhan is most probably going to another team.If TC and EC can be retained the Bulls will do surprise some teams again. If they lose 1 of the 2 they can only hope for a spot in the playoffs in #6,7 or 8. With the 2 still there is no lock but if TC and EC have improved their games the Bulls will have a top 5 team in the east with REAL potential to improve each yr.They seem to be a couple of years from major serious championship contention right now. Their young guys seem to have unlimited talent. The future seems bright in Chicago, actually if there is a team that could be called the Young Guns......the Bulls would be it.EC,TC and LD form an impressive young frontcourt. If Dwayne Wade is Flash,Gordan is Flash Gordan. People compare him to Vinnie Johnson....he could be much BETTER. | |

| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 8/3/2005 2:39:38 PM | Seattle's been my team for 35 years, even when my city (Vancouver) SORT of had a "pro" team for 4 years . The Sonics have their two stars on board, but a lot will depend on who they get to replace James, Daniels, and I suppose Radmanovic will be gone, too. And losing MacMillan was bad enough, but Weiss as a replacement? I always considered him a solid career assistant. Ridnour should step it up but I can't see them improving from their surprising year. | |
|
| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 8/4/2005 9:03:32 AM | Sonics are a PO team no matter what, however, they would NOT be nearly as effective w/o McMillian as coach,Daniels backing up,Evens doing extra dirty work and bringing luchpail and Radman providing some options.James wasn't a lost because of his season performance but his POST season performance helped make the Sonics take off. Still, the team is TALENTED. The perimeter guys like Ray,Lewis and Ridnour need LUNCHPAIL type guys to do the dirty work.I'm not convinced that the Sonics have enough to get the job done against te elite teams. | |

| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 8/4/2005 9:08:41 AM | I said Riley SLEPT......well, he WOKE up in time to make a sensational deal to bring Antione Walker, James Posey and Jason Williams to the HEAT....That move alone made them among the top 5 teams in the NBA again......Now if he can convince ZO and Finley to come on board....WATCH OUT! CHAMPIONSHIP in Miami | |
|
| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 8/4/2005 11:00:01 AM | | I was never a fan of Jason Williams, but I think he'll be a perfect fit in Miami. Williams is a very good passer, and his role should be pretty simple in Miami-- get the ball to Shaq-daddy right away and often. Failing that, just hand it to Walker or Wade and watch them do their thing. Scary team just got scarier. | |

| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 8/6/2005 11:40:15 AM | I'm with you,I'm not a big JW fan either. I still think Riley slept and messed up this summer. However,I think he did the best deal he could once he woke up.
The BEST thing for him would to have been to TRY to rework the EJ contract. Then to have gone after and signed 6'5Raja Bell and (3pt record holder)6'9Donyell Marshall. Those 2 have signed contracts that pay them about 10million collectively. Both are EXCELLENT versitle defensive palyers and versitle offensive players. The combo of 6'1JW and 6'8Posey have contracts of about 13million.With Bell and Marshall he'd have gotten ALOT more for less money which would allow them to sign Finely once he is released to the mid level and still sign Mourning and Damon Jones to contracts.
Personally,I'd rather have Raja Bell to JW, Donyell Marshall to AW and EJ to Posey on a team with Shaq and Wade. My problem with JW and AW are that both are overpaid and neither are known for playing defensive ball.Offensively they are LOADED and much better than last yr.....but defensively they didn't get better. I like the trade,I just think it was the best he could do AFTER having played Rip Van Winkle.

| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 8/6/2005 5:07:13 PM | | sorry guys the MAVS are takin it this year....almost beat pheonix...just because of jason terry stepping back and letting nash shoot the three to send it to overtime in game six...that was the killer.....this year the mavs will beat the suns in 7 games and beat the heat in the finals... | |
|
| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 8/6/2005 6:52:09 PM | | Sorry, gotta disagree. Nowitzski = No- defense-ski. And though he did eventually step it up, he went through some comatose stretches in the playoffs. Of course he's very talented, as is their team, but I don't like them at all to get out of the West. | |
|
| |
| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 8/8/2005 11:22:49 AM | Spurs---of course. they'll be some comp in phoenix and maybe the rockets in the west, in the east, shaq and wade will take their team to the promised finals, but still the spurs as champs. | |

| Which TEAM gonna win championship: NBA Posted: 8/17/2005 9:35:32 PM | The Suns aren't winning anything this year, most especially if they lose Joe Johnson and no matter that they got Kurt Thomas. They just don't defend well enough. They couldn't even beat San Antonio with Tim Duncan on two crappy ankles, let alone a healthy Duncan. There's an outside chance of them being able to do it but I don't believe it'll happen
The teams that are going to contend most seriously are Miami, Indiana, San Antonio and Detroit; there really are no other contenders. Houston has an outside shot if Yao Ming learns how to pass, is able to stay in shape and can stay out of foul trouble... and if they sign a passingly competent point guard (a distributor, not an out-of-position, undersized 2 guard).
There are literally no other teams that should have a shot at the title besides these six and really, only four of them are serious contenders. Of these four, Indiana has yet to prove itself capable of beating Detroit and Tinsley has yet to prove he can stay healthy but if they manage it somehow, the Pacers are deep, well-balanced and coached pretty well, backed by great management. Of the four though, they are the least likely to win.
Detroit and San Antonio own the last two titles. Detroit, however, is going to be significantly less of a threat without Larry Brown, IMO. They won't fall off the map of course but they're not a title team without LB at the helm. He's a brilliant Xs and Os coach and if Rick Carlisle couldn't do it with Detroit, whomever replaces Larry Brown won't take them to a title either.
San Antonio is probably the safest bet for now.
Miami is going to be interesting; IF Antoine Walker settles into the role of third or fourth option well and plays with some intelligence, they will be a nasty, dangerous team and a definite title contender if they can remain healthy. The addition of Williams should make things easier in transition and take some ball-handling pressure off of Dwyane Wade and Walker should alleviate some of the offensive burden from both Wade and Shaq, stretch the floor a bit, etc.
If that happens and they ALSO sign Michael Finley, well, then they're title favorites.
I'd say the Spurs win again and Miami wins the year after before Shaq begins his serious decline.

Marvin Williams, Josh Smith, Al Harrington, Josh Childress, Donta Smith, Boris Diaw, Zaza Pachulia...
That's more than 50% of their active roster, right there. Fools.
