Posted: 4/19/2007 10:00:13 AM | | I actually got my first tattoo when I was 26 and put many years of thought of what I wanted it and where it was something I wanted to do for myself as a form of expressing myself. And when I am 60 or 70 I'm not really going to care very much who's going to see them anyway, I don't plan on running around naked when I'm that age. And I don't believe in regrets. But I'm willing to bet one day you are going to wake up alone and regret being so closed minded and judgemental | |

now everyone seems to have one...the " tattoo" is no longer unique anymore...alot of people I know that got tattoos told me they did it to be different, but now they are just like anyone else.
No offense, but it dosen't do a thing for me....and the consensis of the guys I know say that a tattoo on a women tell's them basically one thing about her before they even meet....
She's easy.
If all women that have tattoos are easy and everyone has them now, you would think you'd be a lot happier and less miserable as you would be getting some! | |

True, I have no tattoos, no piercings.....I do have a fake tooth, a plastic mesh lining my intestenal wall, and some screws and pins in my knee...hey, I'm not going to lie, I've had some work done...

Posted: 4/19/2007 10:08:11 AM | tongue-untied, to be honest, the tattoo on my hip is covering a pretty nasty looking scar that I got when I was little and fell on a fence. and I shouldn't have to explain myself to someone like you because "it does nothing for you." I didn't get them for you or anyone/thing else. I did them for me. One to hide something that made me feel bad about myself and the other because of hobbies.
Why would you even post on a forum that is for people with tattoos? If you don't have anything or your opinion is negative, keep it to yourself. What is the benefit of rocking the boat?  <<< this solves nothing. why start it? Or is that what "does it for you?" | |

I also like me the way I am, and don't require artwork, however lovely, to cover up the real me. Nothing against all those masses of tattooed folks, to each their own I say. I also have absolutely no piercings, not even my ears. I figure I am leaving the planet with the same number of holes that I came into this world with, don't need any more.

Tattoos are just another form of personal adornment. Some adornments are temporary (i.e. the clothes you wear, makeup) and some are less temporary (dental whitening, hair colour) and some are quite permanent (tattoos).
Perhaps some people (OE:tongue-untied) didn't realize that the title of this post was not "What does your post say about you?"......and then they would not have left us with their answer of "I am judgemental and shallow". No one here is asking for you opinion whether people who get tattoos are low-class or not. Go start your own thread if you wish to have a discussion about that. | |

I also said, "to each their own"....perhaps if you want to start a fight you might pick one some place else. I believe we are free to state our "personal opinions" here without getting bashed about verbally......or are we not?????

My mom always gets mad at me for getting them saying "what are u gonna do when your all old are wrinkled". I look at her and say "what are u gonna do when your old and wrinkled".
All of us are going to be old and wrinkled....just some of us are gonna be colored, old and wrinkled. Plus, its not like u see alot of really old people wearing skimpy clothes which shows half of the tats off, so u wont see them anyways. Even my big one, with a t shirt on its fully covered. I highly doubnt when im that wrinkled im going to be wearing spagetti strapped tanks.
Plus I'm growing up in a age where plastic surgery is becoming common..... i plan on nip and tucking alot as i age if i can afford it. So i hopefuly wont be as wrinkled as i would be naturally! As far as we know.... there could be a "at home" treatment by that time, thats takes them off painlessly for barely any cost if u hate it that much! | |

Sorry for double posting but i just went back and read tongues posts... and i laughed out loud.
first of all, my last big design i got done was made specifically for me (no clip art) and i searched for an artist for years. (first tat was at 19, second 22 and big one and foot one both at 24). I was never drunk, and i only got one during my drug/alcohol phase.
The rest were a celebration after i quit the party scene.... so that kinda wrecks your quick judgement.
What people who are not interested in tatttoos don't realize, is that the actual tattooing is a very spiritual experience, especially if the tatt has meaning.
You are wrong in saying that tattooing a phase, and becoming part of basically pop culture. Is it true that more adn more people are getting them....yes. But this is only "new" in north america. In tribes, china adn well.....all around the world, tattooing, or some kind of body modification has been around since the beggining of time.... so really is it that new? And if it isn't that new, yoru wrong to say that they are doing it to "fit" in with present times. You look at it as them trying to cover something up. We look it as a form of expression of who we are, and the skin is a canvass that is made to be drawn on.
to each their own.
I thikn its fine to be vain. I dont beleive that we were really supposed to see ourselves shrivel up. Most of use would have died in our early 30's if it wasn't for technology. I done beleive we are supposed to watch ourselves wither away. So if getting a tat means im vain.... fine by me. | |

So, having a tattoo (at least to you and the guys you discussed this with) makes a girl easy.
I must have missed the boat as my libido did not increase substantially after getting my tattoo.

Funny you should mention that. When I got my first one a looooong time ago I wasn't sure where to have it placed. So I thought 'OK I'm old, I'm incontinent - where do I want the nursing home staff to find this???' That's how I decided where the first one went.

Posted: 4/19/2007 6:19:36 PM | Every responce on page 3 was by a woman, except for me and a couple guys....but most from women that , for some reason or other, decided to mutilate themselves for the purpose of permanent cosmetics....hey ....I knew a girl that plucked all her eyebrows beyond repair, and she got them tattooed on......looks good.....better that the make-up she plastered on her brows to cover it up....
For the reason why they have a tattoo.....like the lady above said...."To each their own...."
But I just tried to tell you an opinion of someone who doesn't have any and will never get any and dosen't understand why anyone would want one...as ugly as I may seem to the general population, I still feel like a beautiful person...and I don't think any kind of visual art scarred into my body is going to get me any closer to happiness than not having it done.....
Nor do I believe that I will be more desirable if I get a tattoo....
When I see a tattoo on a person, man or woman, I just see....." Hey!!!!!!Look at me!!!!!!!I got a tattoo!!!!!!! I'm crying for attention!!!!!!!!! and
I can't get it the usual way, so I might as well get a tattoo to make me look cool......"
But the biggest thing that pisses me off as to the amount of comments against me, is the fact that only ONE person told me why they got the tat....and not really, just alluded to the fact that it was none of my biz to comment....I guess nobody can remember when or why it happened......too pissed off with my OP that you ppl can't tell me what POSSESSED you to do it.....and they didn't get personal either.....or too embarrassed as to why they woke up one day with a tat...
The only tattoos I will acknowledge with respect is the one's that our veterens of war got when they were fighting for our future freedom........on their own and in the countries they liberated from oppression...they got tattoos to commemorate their commradery and the survival of a war.....but if you ppl that have gotten tattoos with friends or family to honor a friendship lost or still strong.....I do not scorn that gesture of solidarity...
And if I insulted ppl on POF by my few posts on this, I apologize....I guess I didn't get as indepth as I would have wanted in the beginning of this online debate.....
I guess what I was REALLY trying to explain was that in the past { 40-50 years }...anyone that had a tattoo was either in the military or a hoodlum or just made a bad decision one night back in the day of boozing with the boys....back then, if you were female and had a tat, you were a whore.....bottom line....excommunicated from the better society, but embraced by the dregs of humanity all the same time......
So can anyone tell me what's changed about tattoos??????? In our day and age of 2007???? Is it expression or merely vanity????? Or even peer pressure??????
Oh, and nobody ever had a little buzz going on during the buzzing of the needle?????!!?!?!?..............cmon...................
Yet again.....my 2 cents......
