Yep, total geek right here.

And I live in Silicon Valley, Teh Geek Capital of Teh World!!!1

Yes, there are so many of us, we actually don't have enough women to go around...

Still, it's a good life. And yes, we are much more knowledgeable about all sorts of wonderful things than most men. We aren't afraid to explore possibilities. Same reason we play so many exploration-based games...

It never gets dull. Whether we're capturing a command post from computer-controlled Nazis or rolling sparkly dice to see what happens to our Exalted hero, we find ways to turn boredom into true fun.

We are your Battlestar Galactica resource, and if you want any other free movies, you know where to look.

The best part? We're all nice people, but we can kick ass when we have to. Yep, we are masters of both war and peace.

We make all the best videos on YouTube. Hell, we invented YouTube. And Google. And Yahoo. And the whole frickin' Internet, for chrissakes!

We are, to put it simply, TEH HAXXORZ!!!! (IOW, we are the best at everything so much it's unfair)

~ David

P.S. If you don't know the meaning and/or proper pronunciation of the word Pwnage, you are not a geek.

Geeks disguise themselves these days...
Come out into the sunshine I say so we can find you!

There is your problem.. Geeks suffer much in the same way as dracular.. the sunlight, it BURNS !! (see: Carpe Noctem, but note we will exit the abode when a female is envolved.)

Meeting one ain't that hard, just look up your local LAN party (or target the Soda isle at your local supermarket for the next person that is stocking enough cola/mountain dew to survive the holocaust (this guy is getting ready for at LEAST 4 hours of gaming)):
lanparty.com will help

and rock on up. get your system cleaned up, and be mobbed by anywhere from 20 to 200 of us :D (seriously, we will all be too damn stunned that a chick rocked up to even ponder approaching you, so be sure to approach whichever one of us you please)

GEEKS FTW !! (and everything else you need us for)

on a final note:
the geek shall inherit the earth!

and:
Well, not entirely sure where this came from.. but i found it rather amusing..
mostly because i do believe they are attempting to be serious about the whole matter..

not set number of reasons, just a series of them..

if you get bored, you at least have to read the final dot point.. Laughing

At home repairman

He repairs your PC, you have your own repairman at home, ready for 24/7 interventions (please note that unlike classical after sales services and hotlines, no maintenance of W... will be secured). Your PC will always be at the top : you get plenty of newish stuff he doesn’t use anymore. ...Such as the GeForce 4 Ti4600 graphic card he bought last month but that he doesn’t want anymore ’cause he found a much better one since. For you, it’s almost free of charge, and he is so happy...

Super speed Internet

Enjoy a broadband Internet connection at home, at the leading edge of kbps since your man will always demand the latest fashionable speedy connection. There again, another financial advantage on top of that : a geek is commonly little concerned by the bill, and will often forget to make you pay your share (and also to shave himself).

Your expression area in the wardrobe

Enjoy plenty of free space in the wardrobe (if there’s any, that’s is, it’s a geek’s house). Sure, 4 T-shirts, 2 jeans and 2 boxer-shorts (and a jumper in the winter) won’t eat all the space in the bedroom. So go for it ! Indulge yourself with clothing boulimia, you’ve got all the needed room for stocking. So what it’s dear ? Your geek is here, he can pay, can’t he ? And then, he’ll go and shave himself. Trick : you may apply this rule for holidays : plenty of space in the suitcase for the geekgirlfriend’s bikinis (see also Agnès’article on holidays).

Calculator

Save batteries on your calculator. One must know that a geek loves mental calculation and is sometimes very fast at it (on the shaving topic, it is the opposite). Reliability of the result is estimated at 98% (the remaining 2% being due to nasty little floating points).

Gastronomy

Be assured you’ll never starve or die of thirst. You’ll never experience pasta or coke shortages. Evolved geeks will even be delicate enough to fill up the deep freezer with ready-made meals soo handy and so quick to prepare. Moreover, you’ll always get good coffee in a decent geek’s place.
Having fun together

Indulge yourself in the fun of tête-à-tête videogames. How lovely to play with your chosen one. Even if it usually consists in exploding your ennemies’ head with a bazooka, the game is a true moment of closeness you could for sure not have enjoyed with other men (such as a literature prize).

Frenzied romantism

You’ll be shown thousands of charming and unusual attentions. Love messages in rot13 (message ciphering method), bits of coding to put in your XTerm (sure, girls, you need to get an XTerm first)which change into wild love declarations, little sweety programs developed at your sole intention, which will do exactly what you need, et plenty of love messages that will reach you through various electronic means. That’s quite something, compared to chocolates or bunches of flowers !
And also...

Your beloved one will also fill in your dull life with :

- Jolly society : his friends are always ready for a good joke, you’ll never get bored with them (provided that you know what they’re talking about).

- Healthy sport activities. Carrying a 19 inches screen is good for your biceps.

- Small screws. Any self-respecting woman knows that you’ll always need small screws at home. Well, that’s our luck, a geek has plenty of them. He will give you some provided that you find convincing arguments : one should not spoil them, there are not so easy to find.

Yeah, I was a bit buzzed when I wrote that.

One of the great things about geeks is that they are not just geeks. I am a geek and a spiritualist. My cousin-in-law is a geek and a handyman. My best friend is a geek and a massage therapist. My other best friend is a geek and a soldier.

We are one of the most versatile types of people there are, and instead of not understanding each other, we expand our horizons through each other.

A relationship with a geek will expand your own life greatly. You'll discover things that were, at first, not so easily noticed.

Geeks aren't just gamers: we're men and women of true character and grit. We are unafraid of realism and idealism in the same serving. We are able to look beyond the skin, and see the soul underneath. We have to. It's the way we discover ourselves.

Most importantly, geeks are the best friends you can have. In all my time in high school, I was never betrayed or sucked into drama by a geek friend of mine. I always found a laugh. I always found something to do. I doubt there's a better archetype for a modern person in the modern world than that of a geek.

After a selection of dating outside of the geek pool, I've happily become a fish in the nerd pond. I've had several relationships with geeks, and each one was very interesting, and the sex was great. The only thing I do tend to find about dating geeks is that they veer towards the immature over the mature. I'm not talking in regards to how many action figures they own, or how excited they get when the new FF comes out, or how awesome they are at real time strategy. I'm talking about getting mom to still do laundry, or living at home because it's cheaper, etc.

Other than that qualm, which doesn't apply to all geeks, just a majority in my part of the world, geeks make fantastic boyfriends. They're very concerned when they're with someone, to the point of making sure you're always happy because they seem to have a general fear of a woman leaving them. They're usually willing to try all new experiences. They read up on things they don't know so that they'll be good at them later. They have sexy brains. And they're really good at one or two things that are always very useful. Computers, literature, gaming (yes, it's useful to me because I find nothing sexier than a man that can kick my ass at a game), music, or role-playing in the pen and paper sense. They're creative, usually pretty honest, and easy to relax around because they're so focused on other things they tend to be relaxed about life.

Geeks are certainly the way to go. Besides, how else do you get someone to pay for your pass to GenCon?

Happily geek myself, I've found geek girls to be great lovers. Smart, imaginative and enthusiastic. And I love when they wear their "Talk nerdy to me" T-shirt.

To me that isn't very attractive. In fact, it can easily border on nagging. I don't like to be nagged, so I do my best not to.

They're usually willing to try all new experiences.
*looks at scar on arm from getting shot with a paintball from 2 feet* Yep. I'm going to say, Dorks/Geeks/Nerds do all sorts of new things.

They read up on things they don't know so that they'll be good at them later.
Now this, to me, is what seperates a "Newbie" from a "Pro." A Pro will do research (for a game it is reading the included manual) before starting. A Newbie will just dive right in.

They have sexy brains.
Sure, why not.

And they're really good at one or two things that are always very useful.
I like to think I am really good at more than two very useful things. I can walk, talk, and chew bubble gum.

I remove the examples because I can't respond generally to them (but yes).

They're creative, usually pretty honest, and easy to relax around because they're so focused on other things they tend to be relaxed about life.
And we have things to talk about other than "What's your astrological sign?" ("Yes, I'm a tourist," wow... mixing a 15 year old with attractive foreigners with thick accents can be really hilarious).

Geeks are certainly the way to go. Besides, how else do you get someone to pay for your pass to GenCon?
From my experience at conventions, the pass is usually the CHEAPEST part (aside from food). Usually the hotel accommadations are what are really expensive. (But I did get the joke.)

Personally, I think the defining characteristic of a dork/geek/nerd is the drive to figure things out. Be it through research or taking something apart. DGN's don't just give up without a real effort.

Mominatrix: that's got the be the best description of all the geeks I know, and I know a lot of them :) We're not so much of a rare breed anymore either. It's becoming more acceptable and even cool to be intellectual and sophisticated. I mean seriously, a geek is as close to an 'everything' package deal as you get most of the time. The knowledge to fix stuff and usually the nerve to break it first just to prove they can fix it. Argent sometimes, but always loyal to their friends.

I'm more of a dork, but I fit a lot of the geek stereotypes. I don't know as much about fixing computers as I'd like to, but I did pick up a bit from my college roommate.

This thread made me laugh... it's nice to feel like I'm a bit in demand.

"it's nice to feel like I'm a bit in demand."

Sooo true! That's one of the strange things about us, is that it's our perceived undesirability that leads us to be so desirable...

I don't see geekness as being able to fix a computer or play video games or any of that.

The real geek aspect is deeper. It's just a strong, strong enthusiasm for everything we do. We do the laundry with the same dedication and attention to detail that we give to any video games we might play (for better or worse).

Another key aspect of being a geek is the realization that it is your weirdness that makes you worthwhile. Once this is embraced, it becomes an infectious self-esteem, reserved only for friends, family, and fellow geeks.

Then, there is a deep passion for enjoying oneself. The reason I play video games is that they are fun. The reason I learn so much is that it's fun. It's got to be fun, or we'll need strong motivation of one kind or another (hint: lovers are the best motivation for everything in a geek's life).

Finally, there's that extremely important thing. Every friend means the world to a geek. Every person is a potential friend. Every friend is worth their salt, from the first moment they make that geek feel genuinely good about life, as is the ideal in life. Until then, it's incredibly difficult to earn their respect.

Hey, guys: Pirates? or Ninjas?

Dude, Secret Agents would get womped.. Gimme a Savory Deviate Delight any day :D

We do tend to enjoy being with our mates, whether we know them personally, or online (for those of you that think gamer/geeks have no friends, you should really have a look at how many people are in a game guild, we consider those a large part of our friends network.. thats a LOT of people)

I think being a Geek is truly about acceptance, we can accept that someone is the way they are.. we can understand why that is, and probably the most important thing, is that we can accept that about ourselves.

the most important thing to remember is:
he/she who dies with the most gadgets wins !!

ROFL. Describes me perfect. I'm a geek, for sure. I will only date geek guys, they're just way better. A guy that actually knows shit about computers is a huge turn on.

I just prefer to date someone that I can share my geeky passions with.

Entertaining thread if only to see some positive limelight for the under appreciated :P Although from the reverse side of the coin I can't say I've ever looked explicitly for a geeky love interest, I never really needed someone with identical hobbies, merely someone accepting of my hobbies. Also as a male geek we outnumber the females by a reasonable margin making it harder to find them anyways.

Oh theres a lot more female geeks, but most of us are just hiding.

I've dated people outside my interests, actually I've dated a lot of opposites... those just never worked out. The guy I'm with now is more geeky than me and its been an awesome relationship. Almost 2 years, while most relationships I had ended within 3 months. Things just got boring and we didn't click. Ah well.

Geeky guys always make me drool.
