Can you re-take the Personality test?
Posted: 7/22/2007 1:45:32 PM
To the moderators of POF. I’m curious as to why it is such a big deal not allowing people to retake the test. Who cares if they want to re do it a hundred times? It has no effect on any of you or is this about control. We both know the simple fix is for them to delete their profile and start over again but wouldn’t that have a bigger impact on the server then just allowing them to delete their test results. P.O.F. is a great site because of all the things it offers especially the free part. It has evolved and grown at an incredible rate. It exists because all participate. Please do not take away the right of freedom of choice.

The moderators are here to inform and assist in the forums. We do not have control over the feature or the ability to delete your results. Those who have posted in this thread are only informing users of the current status of the ability to 'do-over' the tests.

Currently you cannot.

At the top of this very forum is a note from Admin:
Moderators will have limited understanding of how new features work. I(admin) create and test new features in a matter of hours and constantly tweak things to see how they work. Many new features will be in a constant state of flux. Should a feature not enhance the site it will be removed.

Can you re-take the Personality test?

I only recently joined the site and I think it's great. But I also found a problem with this. Strangely my profile got deleted (I'm not sure why, either I'd upset some people, or I logged out) so I had to do the test again. I say strangely because my test results first time were more accurate than the second time. The system could do with a re-take option. I know for instance I answered one question wrong because I got an "idiosyncrasies" notice and it quoted the answer I'd given, and it was the opposite of what Id meant to say.
So...the bottom line is, it is possible to do the test again, if you delete your profile and then register again. But if you do, don't blame me if someone steals your name in the five minutes it takes you to re-register. Don't forget, if you do, you lose all your votes, friends, etc., you have to re-upload your pics, and rewrite your profile details. And if you do all that, don't do the test even more incorrectly the second time like this idiot (me).
In some ways it's good the test can't be retaken because people would rejig it to prejudice viewers. Maybe it could be left as a point of discussion between emailers..."Hey, y'know how it said I was really confident? Actually I'm really insecure, I just answered wrong." and that sort of thing.

Someone gets it! Anything that leads to discussion between the two involved is more to the point anyway.

My apologies yayawhatever I had not seen the following statement from the administrator.

Moderators will have limited understanding of how new features work. I(admin) create and test new features in a matter of hours and constantly tweak things to see how they work. Many new features will be in a constant state of flux. Should a feature not enhance the site it will be removed..

My question ….is the administrator aware of this topic surrounding re doing the test? I understand were the moderators are coming from but at the same time if someone has truly rushed the test their relating matches will also be incorrect. Better known as the domino effect. Then again if the relating matches also rushed their test then we are all in trouble!

I guess it defeats the purpose of the test in the first place. You (all of us) just can’t win!

You and some others seem to hold a very strong opinion that the results of these tests should be considered to be "written in stone" and that re-taking the test is wrong or "cheating". Respectfully, I believe the results of these tests will change depending on how we feel about ourselves and others at the point in time that the test is taken.

I would like to suggest that (for example) a person who is fresh out of a bad relationship and is still bitter and angry will not have the same results as they would have before that relationship began or later on when they get over the hurt.

For myself, if I was ever the sort of person that used to desire signs of affection through gifts over physical contact I certainly don't feel that way now.

People change.

If it is true that honestly taking the tests again would always yield the same results, then what harm is there in "confirming" it by re-taking the tests?

On the other hand, "cheaters" who are determined to fudge the results are only hurting themselves since (presumably) it's what people write (and their pictures) that most people (hopefully) base their decisions about who to contact... at least I certainly hope that's the case and that people aren't going strictly by the compatibility score while ignoring what others write in their profiles.

I need to retake the test. There are 4 "Food for Thought!" items on my report and they were the results of problems (mouse or the page itself) because I know what I answered and that is not what is shown on the report.

I noticed I can see someone's Needs Assessment results and their Compatibility Test results from someone's profile. But I can't seem to find a way to find out someone's MBTI type from their profiel, w/out doing 16 different searches. Is there a quicker way?

Here's a suggestion: allow a member to retake the test one once, after a delay of say14 days (long enough to forget some questions) .

-- I still believe some of the answers were exact opposite on the report. As I review this thread I see I'm not the only one. Maybe you should verify the scripts!!

I too have tried to retake the needs assessment test as some of the results do not reflect the choices I made on the test. It would be nice to have the option of updating it, or at least trying to correct the errors. And then have others view the profile. As it is, I don't want anybody to see the results because they are erroneous.

I don't want to retake the test because i don't like the results.. one of the factors you list on the compatibility page relates to whether or not you wish to get married.. etc.. those things CAN change over time so you wouldn't be matched properly on the compatibility page now would you?

Hi

I have actually been assessed by a qualified tester and know my results are incorrect.

It is common under duress to appear as the opposite,

It bothers me that people are using this information to make decisions about me as it is incorrect and if I am unable to correct the information I would at the very least like to completely remove it.

sorry to be a Pill but I must say I was gratified that others were bothered also.

many thanks

K

From your mail/profile, click 'compatibility'.

Between the Google ads and your 'percent matches' you will find "Remove Test Results from my profile".

I think she means the Personality Search based on Jung's Typology.

There does not appear to be a way to be removed from this search nor to remove the results from this page. It makes sense that if a user feels the results are less than accurate that it may be creating an inaccurate match for those using this search.

We'll see what the BigFish has to say.

I have also taken Myers Briggs twice from certified counselors and had the same result bith times, but different on POF. That makes me wonder if the POF test is biased in some way...
I think my other result is more accurate to my personality (better or worse is not a useful descriptor here).
I think we should be able to delete these results since they don't match those that come from proffessionals.

After reading through all of this, I can see how my opinion won't change matters much but my reasoning for wanting to retake the test is slightly different.

I was very impressed with the idea the site had for taking a personality test. To Test the Test out, I used it on my friend without knowing that it was a one-and-done type situation. Accordingly, none of the answers are correct or in relation to me. Along with this, the Compatibility percentages I have shown to me are actually putting people with my ex boyfriend (the one who answered all the questions to the test).

There should definitely be a retake available for whatever reason. It seems that NOT being able to retake the test has more negative consequences than being able to.

If the true reason is to prevent people from "fudging" answers, it's pointless. People who fudge probably fudged anyway and would continue to do so even after they met someone through this site. Preventing a retake isn't going to change the personalities of those types.

The point here, I think, is that the test CAN be re-taken. It's just that it's a HUGE hassle. You have to delete and re-create your profile. Clearly, as in my case, people who want to take the test again WILL take it again. So why not make it easy? The test is wrong for me, as I rushed through it since I figured I'd just re-do it later.

While I understand the person in charge of the site is quite busy since he basically runs it on his own, I've run enough websites in my time to know that if they're storing the answers, theres are database fields somewhere that can be easily updated. (If they're just storing the result - this would actually make it easier!) It's simply a matter of making it so that that field(s) can be updated. They do it with most of the profile already - why is this different?

To those that have responded in this thread - I think we need to start emailing on a regular basis to get this changed. It would only make the site better, and there's obviously enough support for this idea, so let's make our opinion heard!

I made an error, misunderstood the question and so now the answer and determination is 180 degree off, totally incorrect and does not accurate reflect my personality.
If this is to remain, I will not be accurately assessed.
If I am not able to change the answer then I will be forced to delete my profile.

What a shame! I just read mine & too much of it is definitely NOT me! Don't know how they came up with some of the answers they did. almost sounds made up!

And when the test produces results that are patently WRONG?

This is what I found on taking the chemistry test. One of the things it says about me is

If you have children already, you enjoy spending time with them very much and work hard to be a good parent. If you don’t have children, you very much desire having children in the future.

Except I don't have children, and I'm absolutely sure that I don't want any. This is too critical a thing to get wrong.

OK, so I can hide the results of the chemistry test so that only I can see them, although that seems a shame. And I could delete my profile and start over seeing as I've only just created it and haven't actually made contact with anyone yet, although that's rather a hassle.

I appreciate the point about not wanting people to take tests over and over again until they get the "right" result, but that's not what I want to do. I'm not interested in trying to produce results that look good but aren't an accurate representation of me, I'm more concerned with correcting something which isn't an accurate representation of me.
