| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 6/8/2008 3:32:25 AM | I hate spiders, but try not kill them. Prefer them to flies. Plus I tried to brave as my lad was growing up, I didn't want him to be scared. I have sucked a few up in the hoover though. And once I was on the phone, when a biggish spider ran down my arm. Well I nearly shat myself, knocked it onto the floor and started hammering it with the phone. Sorry spider lol. | |

| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 6/8/2008 8:48:06 AM | I'm very pathetic girly about the whole thing. I blame my mother, for a joke when I was a child she put a toy spider in my dolls house for me to find. Needless to say a lifetime of spider hating ensued.
I cannot however, bring myself to kill anything, so for the most part I just keep an out for them being too close. My flat seems to be the Hilton hotel for spiders, I get loads. I even thought I might be on to a winner when the cat showed an interest in one but would she eat it? Would she buggery, just sat there watching it.
I know it's irrational and I try to talk myself out of the fear regularly and the big haory ones kept as pets don't bother me too much at all, just the little domestic buggers taking up residence in my flat.

| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 6/8/2008 8:57:55 AM | Flies like to land in and eat poo poo then walk said poo poo all over our work surfaces etc..Spiders like to spin webs to catch flies in and then eat the flies..Surely this has to be a big reason not to kill spiders | |

| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 6/8/2008 8:59:26 AM | | I am flippin terrified of them....i mean terrified as in not staying in the same house as one, i did on many occasions run out of the house and wait outside until i found someone brave enough to go in and remove it..... | |

| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 6/8/2008 2:23:51 PM | If you are scared of spiders - re-read "Charlottes Web" (sure you must have read it as a child) My daughter cried when we finished the book. It may help you to see them as "cute" like everyone keeps saying.
I have an army of spiders in my house. I keep clearing up the cobwebs but the spiders are winning! They do generally keep themselves to themselves but at this time of year the females send out signals to the males who bravely/stupidly risk their lives running across your carpet to get to them. And the reason they are in the bath/basin is cos they fell in and can't get out, so just leave a towel hanging over the side to give them a ladder - they'll be gone in the morning.
My funny story:
My children have been brought up to know spiders as "Boris" or cousin "Doris" etc. so that they don't immediately panic at the site of them although there is a primeval instinct to panic. Anyway, my daughter, 4/5 years old at the time said "I can't get in my bed - there's a spider on it" so I told her not to make such a fuss it's only Boris until I saw it was right up the top of the duvet by her pillow. "OK" I said "I'll move him for you" so I did - but dropped him and (oops) TROD on him! She saw him on the floor not realising what had happened and after a while came running to me again in floods of tears saying "Boris is dead, he's not moving!" After consoling her, I discreetly removed him to the bathroom bin and the next thing I new she was happily shouting "It's ok - he's gone now he must have been ok!"
I had a real struggle hiding my laughter.

| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 6/8/2008 4:56:40 PM | I am chief spider catcher in our house. An ex girlfriend of mine hated them and wouldn't even go in the room if there was the tiniest one there.
Spiders just don't bother me so I am lucky.
Now moths on the other hand. Once they get over a certain size they totally freak me out!

| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 8/16/2008 11:26:36 AM | A friend sent me an email showing how a "recluse" spider can be really dangerous !!!!.. It enjoys dark areas like sheds with lots of wood in it,,, or in piles of leaves and sticks... The spider will bite you and the bite area becomes inflamed and reddish...then the the area flesh starts to open up... much like flesh eating deasese .... the picture sent with the email showed a man`s hand with a large gapping area where you could see the bones and whats under the skin... Terrible !!!!..... | |

| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 8/16/2008 12:41:55 PM | In the war between spider/human the spider has the most to fear as it's a million times the size of a human I'm pretty sure that a spider that's a million times the size of a human would be scared of fk all. I, on the other hand, would probably cak my pants

| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 8/16/2008 4:06:25 PM | I'm quite partial to spiders, not overly keen on them running round the floor when I'm in bare feet but I'm quite happy for them to live on the ceilings.
What's that statistic now...the average person eats 7 spiders in a lifetime when asleep?
(Just a cheery goodnight thought!)

| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 8/17/2008 5:35:05 AM | I have a spider I have named Bernadete (Was Bernard till she laid eggs) I love em, they catch mosqitoes, flys and moths allowing wide open windows in the summer without the hassle of chasing things around with a newspaper swatting them. | |

| It's that time of year again, spiders, Posted: 8/21/2008 3:16:12 AM | Spiders are fine I don't have a problem with them in this country. Although, I have read that we actually have some of the most venomous spiders on the planet, they just can't penetrate our skin! I will happily pick them up and pop them out of the window if they are of the 'trip-over-them' size.
Wolf spiders are found across the globe and vary enormously in their diversity. We only have innocuous ones in this country.
Incidentally, for the arachnophobes amongst you (stop reading now!), everybody ingests spiders in their sleep from time to time! It happens. Ever woken up with that 'crunchy' feeling on your teeth? Yep, it was a spider breakfast! Yes, they do crawl on your face at night too, not particularly pleasant but harmless. Spare a thought for those people in countries with the Camel Spider - look up what they do if you want to be afraid!
