I had a disagreement with a colleague over this one. I insisted you can and she argued you couldn't - Boy! was she right... New girl / boyfriends come along and don't like the idea of an ex on the scene, so the "friendship" is over before you know it and you realise that you have wasted years (in my case 13) living in hope of a reconcilliation.
Move on... both of the things he said indicates to me that he sees you as a nothing more than a "mate". A "safety net" for want of a better turn of phrase. It's all on his terms and doesn't offer much for you.
Believe me when you do click with someone, it will be on every level and you won't be left feeling unsure of yourself... I only wish somebody had told me this years ago...
