^^^Hi Rose, in 6-4-8, I remembered one of the last visits with my grandmother, the tissue paper skin, her tenacity. Thanks.

NAILS IN THE FENCE.....part of National Friendship Week.

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence.Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down.

He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.

He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same.

When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there.

A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Remember that friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.'

Smart enough, not as smart as
Uncomplicated conversations
Topics of depth
No challenge in our togetherness
No petty, mind-game competitions
Appreciation for our differences
Encouragement for respective talents

He cherished my emotions
My attention to us
I adored his intellect
His analytical take on everything
I could’ve listened to his stories forever
Hold each one even now
In heart’s loving memory pocket

Waves whisper,
message in a conch,
the quiet rage
rolling,
pounding the shore
with delicate fingers,
etching designs, carving
it's destiny
upon the sands
of time.

Waves whisper over a sea-born
Trove of shimmering trinkets
Eclectic patterns blur, collide, coexist
Sandcastles and sunbursts through clouds
Sunlit surf and seaglass
Natural-wonder riches
Etching the breezy backdrop
Unfussy, uncomplicated, sultry day
A stolen afternoon
Of summer reading

Nice write Expat....thanks for sharing.

Shall I bend in the wind?
Shall my branches fan out
the birth of seedlings?

I shade the rocks
on the beach, and watch
them bleed to the bowels
of the earth, yet unmoving,
hiding in my shadows.

hey Hammy....nice to see you. Thanks for sharing part of you.

thanx for stoppin by the new thread Mandrake....please do come again!

sleepy eyed
brain clouded
awakening
I think of you
stretch over from my fetal position
to put my arm around

air

you're not there

I ache for you like
the birds without food
flying barren, grey whiteness...
not one berry in sight
but it's a search one can't fight
I NEED you

you're the foreign feeling my gut has when it's not twisted
you didn't walk up and ask me to like you, you insisted
with every little thing that you said

about the lost books of Eden
the words used to describe your mother
and how you'd been treated by others

I knew you weren't like most guys
before you told me
baby.....I could see it in your eyes

heey............you...........Mr. Honest Man.....
catch me if you can....
and you will....
I'll show you the way

her fragile twisted body
lay naked under sheets
i kiss her
she rants...
'i have never been done like that...
she can't do that to me....'

she has worked herself into such a tizzy
she couldn't stand wearing clothes
thus naked under sheets
her eyes searching for meaning

knowing reality escapes her
i stroke her head
she succumbs to the touch

-feeling better granny?
'i've never been done like that before'
ready to leave i gave her a kiss
she gave me no hug today
knowing this was as good as it would get
i left
feeling like the wind was knocked out of me...

i'm not too good at life sometimes
want to ride the waves and go with the flow
but sometimes i hit a rock
and stop
and breathe deeply
and am grateful for all
knowning that life ebbs and flows, ebbs and flows
and i am riding the waves...

(thank you manny...am fine, thank you)

Running with scissors,
carving my way through
the delicate web,
cutting deception on the dotted line,
piercing folly like a dagger,
honing edges on the whim
of satans cry,
leaving bloodless trails
in fantasy's dream.

in the end,
chasing the riders
on the storm's edge.

’Into this house we’re born
Into this world we’re thrown’

Always with you
Always there
Since the time you were little
Has helped you survive difficult predicaments
Your higher self
Remember what you need to remember
You don’t have to become the memories themselves
Writing the book of your own journey
Your higher self
Letting the riders pull ahead
Slowing when the sun bursts through gray clouds
Reveling in slow

Hey Hammy....ya came through that one just fine.....enjoy the concert hun, there's nothing like it!!

Mother Nature comes to town,
featuring the "Rock the earth show"

Mama Nature on lead vocals,
Thor on drums,
Apollo on keyboards,
Neptune on guitar,
featuring the water synthesizer,

The infamous Zeus
heading the light show,

Athena doing her
dance of love,

Aphrodite playing bass,
still a heavy hitter!

and the lesser gods singing
back up...in harmony.

after the concert is over
the earth is again, refreshed!

Heart’s intention is what counts
Certainly less apparent
Against the diaphanous play
Of light and shadow when
Repertoire shimmers to a halt

Athena
Never taking a lover
Goddess of War
Skilled in crafting weapons
A metalworker
Wisdom, her virtue
And wise it seems
To dance of love
In the light
Of her father
Athena, Goddess of War
Gifter of the olive tree
Namer of her city
Surely knew
War is not The Way
Might
But out of sight
The Way of the wise

brought over from Ash's thread.

Mourning the passing of night
into day, hiding with the shadows,
crouching in huddled darkness,
awaiting the fate of light
to reveal my existence!

Mortal condemnation
sealed my soul in the tomb
of rejection, but in the darkness
I found the cries of similarity,
where I felt invisible unity,

a solidarity of pain
and torment,

and the tears of morning
fade unheard, as shadows recede
once more.

Decibells of silence
piercing my ears,
screams into the
crying winds
of tortured souls,
twisting on the metal
edge of reason,
lashing out, with razor tongues,
for their moment of glory,
waiting, for someone,
to see the writing
in the mists.
