| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/3/2007 6:28:35 AM | Text speak and the inability to consult a dictionary.
Saying " I always reply to messages" and not ( actually I have that one as well on my profile but oddly enough I do reply)
no picture.. It's not that hard to do....
" If you want to know , just ask" ... I hate this one because usually it's the only line on the profile, maybe if they gave you some incentive to ask, you would, however that would indicate to me the conversational awareness of a stunned wombat.
Admission: I have the " if you want to know" line in my profile but its basically there in case I forgot something, the cases I'm talking about are those where the line is all there is in the profile.

| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/3/2007 7:43:27 AM | Ultimate turn-off for me has to be profiles in which the person spends more time saying what they DON'T want [from a man] then they do about themselves. The ones with long lists of demands - often written with the Caps Lock on - with sentences starting with "Don't bother mailing me if..." and "You must not have/be..."
a) Do they think that negativity is really an attractive quality? Fair enough wanting to weed out the time wasters, but say something positive as well.
b) Errrm, this is a dating site! If they're really such hot stuff how come they're on here like the rest of us? Could there be a correlation between their attitude and their single status?

Smoker - Occasionally. What the fcku does that mean? I eat fillet steak about three times a year, so I can claim that I eat it 'occasionally'. Do these 'occasional' smokers have three fags a year? I doubt it.
i generally smoke when i go out, dont smoke at home or work, maybe smoke 20 a week as i have one in the car too and from work, i would say it may be classed as more then occasionally, but in general terms not a smoker who craves a cig or indeed need one at a given time
|
| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/3/2007 10:56:59 AM | MSG 80 If I ate 20 fillet steaks a week, I would say that I have it often.
This is the same as you having 20 fags a week, therefore, I would say that you smoke 'often', for the purposes of accuracy.
This is why the 'occasionally' description pisses me off when I see it on a woman's profile.

| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/3/2007 11:32:46 AM | sorry you are wrong, if you look in the context of twenty cigs a day is a norm for most smokers i would say, so i only do a fraction of the norm,
i smoke for pleasure rather then need, and can as such stop , as i like,
trying to assosiate steak to cigs is an alien concept, unless you are having smoked steak every time, lol
it make be fairer to be able to put how many cigs you smoke, to make a clearer picture

sorry you are wrong,
How can I possibly be wrong to have an opinion on what phrases put me off? It's my opinion, and mine alone, so kindly don't tell me I'm wrong.
it make be fairer to be able to put how many cigs you smoke
I agree with you there, but the site doesn't give that facility yet, so we are stuck which the choices provided, and I don't like to see 'occasionally' against a woman's smoking preference.
The analogy I provided was quite acceptable as regards frequency......if you have any issues with it - tough!

| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/3/2007 11:39:15 AM | All of whats being said ...and the ones that say that they have there kids every weeknd so put up with it etc...if they have them every weeknd ..when do they get a life.????..there exes are having the life by getting rid of kids all the time lol...they are not doing you men a favor by letting you have them all the time.doh they have a life no wonder you don't lo

| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/3/2007 12:10:08 PM | The analogy I provided was quite acceptable as regards frequency......if you have any issues with it - tough!
it is quite common for people to smoke over twenty a day, yet rare indeed that anyone would eat steak at nearly every sitting of the week, so again an alien concept in the reality of numbers,
maybe i should put a sociable smoker, as you would understand that, being a sociable drinker, which by the way WTF is that, if you socalise every night then you would be often or regular, and how many , do you keep up with your sociable friends, can be just as misleading to people who would like to know how much you drink really
vvvvvvvvv not got time to debate the points, i,m going for a sociable drink and an occassional cig

| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/3/2007 12:20:06 PM | A more obvious distinction would be "I smoke every few hours / every day" vs "I only smoke on certain occasions/in certain circumstances"
Someone who has 3 a day every day might be more addicted than someone who has 21 over a night out then spends the rest of the week wheezing!

| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/3/2007 12:21:52 PM | Occasional smoker, that would be my youngest sister..Even though she doesnt smoke any other time, she has been known to have 2 or 3 when she goes out for the evening which is about once every month or two..
Occasional drinker, that would be me, Even though I have been out 3 Saturdays in the last month, I can go for months without alcahol, even when working in the club..And very rarely ever drink at home..
So occasional smoker or drinker wouldnt put me off contacting someone..Regular drinker may though.

yet rare indeed that anyone would eat steak at nearly every sitting of the week
Which is why I stated that doing so could be seen BY ME to be 'often'!
My analogy was correct, and you appear to agree with me, as 20 fillet steaks in one week is very frequent.
an alien concept in the reality of numbers,
Not really, since I was discussing the 'frequency' of an act, not the number of times it occurs. There is a difference between the two.
maybe i should put a sociable smoker, as you would understand that,
The site does not provide for that in it's smoking options, so it would be a little difficult for you.
which by the way WTF is that, if you socalise every night then you would be often or regular, and how many , do you keep up with your sociable friends, can be just as misleading to people who would like to know how much you drink really
Yes, but I'm not concerned with how people view that aspect of my profile. It is up to them to interpret what they see, not for me to tell them what to think. The 'socially' aspect of my alcohol intake is determined by the number of social events I participate in.
The site offered me an option, I accepted it, and the rest is up to those who read my profile.
In the meantime, I am still put off by women who state that they smoke 'occasionally'!
|
| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/3/2007 12:47:47 PM | Oh dear, I smoke occasionally in the morning.. occasionally in the afternoon and occasionally at night .. (especially when learning how to do things on my laptop late at night) But I dont smoke regularly at any of those times.. Think I will leave this debate to the clever ones | |
|
| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/4/2007 3:19:03 AM | so you put what is the best option of choice for you that is given, like i state you say a sociable drinker, that could be seven days a week, seven pints a night, who knows, just like a smoker may put occasional, would in my eyes say , i am not an heavy smoker,
which by the way WTF is that, if you socalise every night then you would be often or regular, and how many , do you keep up with your sociable friends, can be just as misleading to people who would like to know how much you drink really
Yes, but I'm not concerned with how people view that aspect of my profile. It is up to them to interpret what they see, not for me to tell them what to think. The 'socially' aspect of my alcohol intake is determined by the number of social events I participate in.
yet you dont like it when a woman puts occasionally for smokers, maybe like you, they are not concerned how people view that aspect of their profile, so you cant interpert, how much a person smokes, but it is up to then to interpret how much you drink.

| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/4/2007 3:30:01 AM | MSG 96 It's funny how you complain about those who nit-pick, yet here you are, trying to dissect my posts on a matter!
yet you dont like it when a woman puts occasionally for smokers
I haven't said I don't like it.......I merely stated that it puts me off. If there are other more appealing things about them, then I will still contact them.
maybe like you, they are not concerned how people view that aspect of their profile
Maybe they aren't, but that isn't what we are discussing. We are discussing what puts me off a woman's profile.
so you cant interpert, how much a person smokes
Which is exactly the point I made in my very first post on the topic!!
it is up to then to interpret how much you drink.
Again, how others interpret my profile is not the topic here. Have you tried reading the thread title? It's remarkably self-explanatory.
|
| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/4/2007 3:38:53 AM | yes we have gone off thread somewhat, what i hate about peoples profile is people who put social drinking, it really puts me off, might socialise seven nights a week for all i know really puts me off it does, now if somebody were to put occasional drinker, i would assume that they were light drinkers who did not go out much, but sociable drinkers you just never know, certainly it would be a point i would raise with someone ,if we got chatting, as i presume anything on my profile, could be raised also,
i dont contact anyone who is a regular smoker or drinker
|
| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/4/2007 3:59:50 AM | This thread has had me in stiches, and I'm adding my two pence worth before reviewing my own profile for cliches - lol

I have a very busy work schedule and active social life - so the question is why are you on a dating site as you obviously have no time for anything else except sleep!!

| Phrases that put you off someone's profile Posted: 5/4/2007 5:40:00 AM | Defnately testimonials that start: What can I say about- I dunno, what can you say about them?!
Do you have children: Prefer not to say That means yes but social services looks after them not me.
