Our "souls", the enrgy that drives our bodies, is set loose at death. Hauntings occur when magnetic materials are present. This can be anything from certain rock types to various metals. In modern times, lotsa of houses get haunted because the wiring in the house makes huge magnetic cage, which can trap our spirit energy. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

Where I work, we have a big electro-magnet, and we are situated right next to a hospital with a morgue. We haven't gotten any ghosts at all, do you think we should turn up the juice?

I've seen and heard ghosts. Near downtown, Hot Springs, Arkansas, in those old apartment houses. I've heard footsteps going up and down staircases, a****tiel I had got set free while I was sleeping. The entity opened the cage door, and opened my bedroom window right next to me, above my head, while I was sleeping.
I've seen what I thought was a person from the corner of my eye, did a double take, that person was gone, but the air was much colder where I saw that person standing.

Many years ago, I had a newspaper route on in West Plano, TX. I'd be throwing papers at about 3-4am, still dark oputside. Seen a few shadow people fairly consistently around a particular neighborhood. THAT WAS CREEPY.

Seeing as I am involved in a leading paranormal investigative team - we have to remain skeptical (unlike others) - but yes, I do believe that there are things out there we as yet cannot explain. We have caught things on video that experts (and I mean experts - 30 years in the field) in the UK cannot explain. But I am also seeing a trend because of these stupid shows on tv. Everyone is an expert now and starting their own teams - and they have no clue what they are doing - or no ethics. Some are in it for pure media attention. A lot of them are getting their facts wrong. I have been doing it for 15 years before it became popular. And also because of these shows - a lot of people are quick to proclaim things paranormal - when in fact it could be explainable - either by natural or environmental factors.

Spirits are manifest in the earth, some linger, others move on to a higher plane of existence - not my words, but words that have resonated down the ages. Although I've never see them, I have felt and heard them. I don't need the sense of sight to know they exist, just as some don't need to witness many other things for them to believe. There's plenty of evidence ghosts, much more than you might think, you really don't even need an open mind anymore to appreciate this. Ask around in your own family, they are closer than you think. I find it more amazing that, in this age, some people still cannot accept their presence.

Maybe it's a truth that has to be denied, for fear of some terrible revelation... jmho. :)

I dont know how i came across this post. But It is a deep topic!

First of all I belive that Paranormal research is a ligitmate science. Just as legitmate as SETI. Search For Extra Terrestrial Intelligence!

I belive that in the vast universe we (our solar system) is just a PIN PRICK to whats out there. Why should we be the only planet carrying life? They have found stars out there that are on the same series star as our own SUN, but infact billions of years OLDER then our own sun. Much towards Zeti Reticulii (spelling). IF you can imagine life on a planet around that star system that is a billion years plus, advanced in technology then we are, you can imagine ALOT! You have to think about how advanced in technology in the last say 50 years or so! Can you image what we would could accomplish in a billion years?! heheh!!

So i think that the science for these things exist. And exist for a reason. I have my own believes on that subject. Which I wont get into much details about. But i think a house isnt the thing being haunted persay. I think the people that go to these houses are the ones being "haunted". IF you think about it? Why would a spirit Haunt a House? If it is there alone and no one is bothering it? WHy would it even care to "HAUNT" the house? But once people coming in and making thier way through the house relentlessly, then the spirits are haunting the people that come into the house for a reason. To find someway to let them know that they they there obviously! Why couldnt that be a true science ? Just like seti?

But those reality shows that show that on tv, to me, are JUST making a mockery of it. They show it on tv for only one reason, to GET RATINGS. And there is now ay you can belive that it is real. IN fact, with the technology in Television production and digital work you KNOW it is all mockery!. An over produced production to just boost ratings! thats all it is!!

So you can see there is a line between Real Life Reality (based on science) , and REALITY you see on TV (based on Fiction)!!

When I was living with my grandmother, my grandfather died and once while I was lying in bed, I felt a poking sensation. You see, my girlfriend was trying to wake me up for work. Gotcha!

OP, for my part I totally do not believe in this, in these types of phenomena, etc. I personally feel they are -- when they supposedly occur -- essentially a product of the person's own mind. The human mind is a very powerful thing. Put a person , an average , at least somewhat "suggestible" person into an old house overnight and tell them this house has had a lot of "paranormal activity", and I bet they will experience something. Tell them nothing about that at all, and I bet they will experience nothing.

Look at it another way, if it were indeed so relatively common for there to be ghosts, spirits, etc etc, around , then why (in some sense) would it even be such a big deal to have to die? After all we could always just pay a visit right back and see everyone. Furthermore, all of the loved ones I have lost and would LOVE to see again, none have ever remotely "appeared" -- and I was looking too. You never "see" or experience them again except in your memories or in occasional dreams. Why would so many peoples' loved ones that they need to see so badly never swing on by on a dark quiet night, if this kind of thing were real? The dead are dead, resting in peace, IMO -- except in the minds of those who remember them and keep them "alive" in that way.

Most of my life I have been a skeptic, when it comes to the paranormal. I enjoyed some ghost stories as a child; but that was it; just stories and over active imaginations. Then I dated a freelance writer who was doing a story on a haunted house. We went to this home and the woman to us all these weird stories of noises and lights coming on in the attic where there was no electrical wiring. The house was built in 1845 by slaves. In the basement, you could see where they used to shackle the slaves to be broke. It was an eerie, all right, but I just figured the owner was off her rocker.

When we had just returned downstairs from the attic we pause to chat then I heard the footsteps of a lightweight woman walking across the attic floor. The conversation stopped and we all stared up at he ceiling. I asked, "Did you hear that?" They both nodded their head in the affirmative. I had just been up there and there was no one in the attic. All three of us heard it. It was real, not an auditor hallucination. So, I became less of a skeptic and became more open to the possibility that things exist which I can see with my eyes.

I am also aware of documented phenomena called hypnogogia or hypnapompia; that occurs as a person goes to sleep, is awaking, if a person is meditating, is on hallucinogenic drugs or medicines. As the mind winds down to sleep the brainwaves move from beta (alert) to alpha, theta, and finally to deep sleep of delta waves; dreams occur during theta and alpha wave cycles. For some people they experience vivid and lucid dreaming during these wavelengths. During the night, the brain fluctuates between delta to Alpha levels. For some people (up 20 to 30%) as they fall to sleep (hypnogogia) or just as they near full consciousness (hypnapompia) they have vision of transparent beings, and some feel or hear things, like their pets, people or other specters.

These things only occur during these specific brainwave patterns according to sleep study analysis. Carl Jung the great psychologist and former partner of Freud wrote extensively about it, calling it the collect unconsciousness. The Hindi people used this technique to find out about the universe and set up many of their religious tenants and philosophy. They reached this state of mind by taking a drug or elixir they called Soma. Many tribal people used this technique to find their totem or spirit guide.

Are these hallucinations real? Who knows, for sure; but I can see a lot of things being explained by them, such as; ghost, alien abduction, fairy tells, and others things. One other thing is they are sometimes auditor in nature. People hear music; see bands, orchestras, and some people theorize that this is the way great minds work, to create music, inventions and great art.

crazy sexy...

Was this ghost hunter a pro - or was it someone that just started a team?
Did they take any data and analyze it? Did they try to explain the natural before proclaiming things paranormal?
Most investigations we go on - we take a lot of data, and usually we find that things are explainable. One woman was upset thinking her daughter was being possessed, when in fact - she was having seizures (she took her to a doctor, he confirmed it).
Again - a real paranormal event is so rare. But because of the dumb TV shows that are on, and the popularity growing, there are self proclaimed teams popping up everywhere, who have no clue what they are doing, or even how to take data an analyze it. There is even a team in Edmonton where the husband comes in, proclaims the house haunted, and for a 'donation' his wife who all of a sudden became psychic last year can do a 'cleansing'.
Teams like that make the scientific teams like us look like idiots.
Just be careful - everyone, when you call in a team. Make sure they have a scientific point of view as well as a view on the paranormal. The main thing here is getting to the truth, and unfortunately with all the groups proclaiming themselves experts, and again having no clue, the truth seems further away.

Alot of digital cameras get white/lighter coloured circles or spots all the time in its pictures. Thats normal. I seen that effect in many many pictures taken from various cameras. Alot of that problem is lens dusty or dirty, or it could be light reflecting off it, or even just a distorted lens itself. Round spots in pictures taken from digital cameras is very common! Most of the time is just dust! But you can read up on that all over the internet!

I agree - I have written articles on orbs and natural explanations - that have been published on magazines online.
Most are dust, humidity, pixel distortions in the camera - or the wrong setting on digital cameras. Even a fleck of dust on the lens can make it look like a orb or ghost.

Well, I don't believe everything I see on TV...BUT....

My mom's house is about 110 years old. Big, huge brick monstrosity! Anyho....they've had the house for 23 years...During that time:

1. My cousin claims he heard someone walk into our dining room and stand right by his feet (he was camped out in our dining room when they came to visit)
2. The toilet flushes by itself (my dad has had it throughly checked by 2 different plumbers)
3. Once when I was talking to my mom on the phone the kitchen sink turned on full blast. No one was home with her at the time.
4. The cat gets let out of his cage (I've checked this out myself...there is no way possible that he can escape himself as there are four seperate latches he would have to undo and THEN relatch)
5. The phone will ring and no one will be there, but regardless of how long you leave the phone on it never disconnects and when you hit *69 it comes up with 'the last # that called your line was 000-000-0000).
6. When home alone someone will talk to you (like, my mom usually hears me or my sister calling 'mom'...my dad has asked me before what I was doing and he was in Puerto Rico on business!...my sister has heard my mom to tell her to hurry up or they will be late while my mom was still at work)
7. The alarm clock will turn on and there will be no noise except a very faint 'hello? can you hear me?' (my dad actually recorded it and had it enhanced so we could make out what was being said)

Ehhh...whoever it is, I think they are harmless. The letting the cat out of the cage has been it's latest little trick on my parents. When it flushes the toilet, it will keep doing it unless you talk to it....I remember one time, I was about 16 and my parents had 2 couples over for dinner. Well, they were in the living room talking and the toilet started flushing. And flushing...and flushing and flushing some more. Finally my mom called out 'Alright, that's enough...we have guest and it is rude to interrupt'. The flushing stopped and resumed once the guest were gone. ROFL.

And I assure you little doubters here on POF that this is all real. None of us have ever seen anyone or anything...but we know someone is always around in that house.

Oh...forgot to mention this one...once when we went to Canada for vacation my dad got a call on his cell phone from the cops. Supposedly our house was attempting to get broken into and someone placed a call from INSIDE the house to report it. The alarm was on...the intruders did not get in...but my parents got a copy of the 911 call and it said that someone was trying to break in at 1301 _______ Road and would someone please hurry? The cops were worried b/c no one would come to the door and my neighbors gave the cops my dad's number.

This past weekend I visited Jefferson Texas which is a haunted town. The old hotels and saloons are still there and the stories are the ususal... something is showing up in the camera but we didn't see anything; sounds; etc...
The town has really created a wonderful existence on tourism by hyping up the ghost stories (which I don't doubt). This wonderful little place went from something like 45,000 people to 2,500 people and yet they attract tourists and maintain the 1800's look and appeal.
I stayed in the hotel with the most visitations; but to no avail. Nada., sad.
Just goes to show you that ghosts do not like being expected to perform.

Was a wonderful study in humankind anyway.

Yes haunted house do exist. my friends has been claws and thing in the room change into stinky sense and colors....

It was basically attacking my friend and giving my friends scratch mark. Mind you they do not have any pet at all .

So, my friend called me, I gave hims so advice on psychic protection. So far no complain from him since than.

I think it is specifically attacking my friend though I have no clue why.

i believe in the spiritual realm (both evil and good). And I also know enough that there are certain 'portals' which should never be opened nor willfully entered into, (entertained). For this can easily allow yourself to entertain more than you bargained for! Its okay to know they exists because of human expereince - but be sure and dont let your 'curiosity' get the best of you and deliberately chase after or 'delve' too diligently into such things or you may come up with more than you wanted - this is not a 'warning' just common knowledge - to them who have ears - let them hear.

One night I was in a hotel room all by myself with a full bottle of whisky on the bedside table. When I woke up the next day, the bottle was empty and I had ectoplasm all down the front of my pj's.

Those are the creepiest encounters. Then the humility of sleeping in that stuff without noticing begins to sink in.
