There are no "real men" left because women took the definition of "real men" and tried to make it their own. Simple as that.

| What is a Real Man? Posted: 5/7/2007 3:26:50 PM | OP, All men are real men, but some of those traits that each of us have acquired through our real years of life experience is beyond so many women to understand, and especially those who could be looking for their father's replacement.
Real men bleed, but we do not do so as women do for their ability to bring new life into the world ...but only w/our help. We bleed for the battles that are constantly being waged because fear and greed aren't going away anytime soon. Real men do what they must to survive ...and to be the one to help bring new life into the world and protect it long enough till it can fend and fight for its own survival beyond the nurturing that both a good mother and father can provide. Real men do whatever it takes to live well before it's time to die.

Read the poem "if" by rudyard kipling. that is what a real man is/should aspire to be from boyhood.
An outstanding poem written by a "Traveling Man".
My mother gave me a plaque with that poem engraved upon it at my high school graduation. A long, long, time ago. She also gave me a copy of "The Sensuous Woman" quietly and discretely with a card suggesting that I read it. I have a fantastic mother! But that's another story.
"IF" by
Rudyard Kipling
IF you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master; If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, ' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch, if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

On a serious note,I think a real man is one of mostly old school values.Protects his home, hearth. One that beleives ALL women deserve respect. One that believes he is the protector.Loves his mom, apple pie and country.
I agree and you said something important there, you said "respect' and unfortunately that is not too common any more. Alot ofpeople not showing another respect and I think it is because of that that there are so many problems and when there is no respect for ones fellow human being, that creates problems and creats hurt, and hard feelings.
Both genders deserve respect and all people should be respected and I think if we can just get that back into the spotlight that things would improve.

I do not see why "IF" should not apply to women too!
Here's why:
Will and willingness - By Nietzsche
-- Someone took a youth to a sage and said: "Look, he is being corrupted by women." The sage shook his head and smiled.
"It is men," said he, "that corrupt women; and all the failings of women should be atoned by and improved in men. For it is man who creates for himself the image of woman, and woman forms herself according to this image."
"You are too kind-hearted about women," said one of those present; "you do not know them."
The sage replied: "Will is the manner of men; willingness that of women. That is the law of the sexes - truly, a hard law for women. All of humanity is innocent of its existence; but women are doubly innocent. Who could have oil and kindness enough for them?"
"Damn oil! Damn kindness!" someone shouted out of the crowd; "Women need to be educated better!" -
"Men need to be educated better," said the sage and beckoned to the youth to follow him. -
The youth, however, did not follow him.

| What is a Real Man? Posted: 5/7/2007 5:42:15 PM | I think that "Real man" = the type of man that a particular woman finds attractive. This differs b/w women obviously, and mostly includes personality aspects over physical aspects (at least for me and most of my friends).
For me a real man is one that stands up for his woman, supports her, wants her to be happy, doesn't hit women, and helps out (e.g. he doesnt sit in front of the couch and wait to be served every minute of the day, if there are kids involved he helps out.) Obviously a real man deserves a real woman who will do the same for him.

| What is a Real Man? Posted: 5/7/2007 5:44:25 PM | Sorry Ladies I disagree with most of you although I only made it through the first two pages.
I have my basic ideal set already, I know what is right and wrong and I stick to that. If you disagree with that, we'll have a discussion about it. I'm not your dad, I struggle to survive like most here do. Lead, follow, or get the hell outta the way, and since I'm leading the decision should be obvious. Give me your honest input to make an informed decision, be brutal if you don't feel that I'm listening or hearing. But know this "I" will make the final decision. If you don't like me...find someone else. If you don't like my mindset....find someone else. If you believe this is a partnership and that neither of us has the "Cheat sheet" of answers....Join me in this journey.

| What is a Real Man? Posted: 5/7/2007 5:45:17 PM | Afer reading this post about "whats a real man " is I have decided that I have no desire to be a real man . I would much prefer to live my life the way I desire. After all who has more fun a dog or a millionaire?
You guys can go ahead and be real men and have all these ladies here that have responded to this post. I am going to roll down the beer garden in my childish little sports car and hang out with loose women.

| What is a Real Man? Posted: 5/7/2007 5:56:18 PM | "But remember there are real woman out there, they hide behind wall because when real women come out and she starts to put her heart out there usually the man runs. "
And how is this sort of caution any different with REAL MEN? Apparently many of these posts imply a man making himself vulnerable at ALL "costs" (pun intended) and if it doesn't work out....well....take it like a man and move on as though it never happened. But women can use this sort of outcome as fuel to burn the next man who chooses to enter her life?
|
| What is a Real Man? Posted: 5/7/2007 5:58:42 PM | I think that as a previous poster said, a real man is a man who really likes women. And who in spite of all the crap of these bonkers times we live in (job rat races, etc) still has the appetite and "drive" to make love (to them).

Then is it perfectly acceptable for women to have walls built up? Seems that's the overriding excuse to justify why REAL MEN seldom get a good woman. If you're going to apply this to men, then women better be equally willing to take a risk. But it seems as though it's ok for her to allow a man to pour whatever resources she deems necessary before she will even begin to think about destructing her wall.

| What is a Real Man? Posted: 5/7/2007 6:24:08 PM | "...one thing I never see addressed here is the importance of a man who actually likes women. LIKES. Not wants for sex, or questions their motives, or guards himself against them. I mean a man who's not afraid to like women in general."
CG5000 has asked the million dollar question here.
I LIKE men and want to be around them. I dont blame them for all the evils in my life!
A REAL man or woman is someone who doesnt blame everyone else for their mistakes or bad decisions in life. A REAL man or woman accepts their responsibilities in life and does what needs to be done. A REAL man or woman makes their life choices based on what they believe and will stand by those decisions even if it is difficult to do so. A REAL man or woman will protect, nurture and support the people in their lives even if it is difficult to do.
|
| What is a Real Man? Posted: 5/7/2007 6:29:21 PM | I agree as per the liking part.
Now as per the "Not wants for sex, or questions their motives, or guards himself against them. I mean a man who's not afraid to like women in general.":
1. Not wants for sex? Hm! 2. Does not guard against them? Hm! "A naive man"? 3. Questions their motives? Hm! "A shallow man"? and the topper: 4. who is not afraid to like women IN GENERAL? In general? Is he not called (by women) a "playar" or a "playboy" or a "male slat"? It seems many women want a man who only likes ONE woman in general not "women" in general!

Nick if a man doesnt like women in general, the odds of him liking ONE woman are probably slim as well. If you dont like a sex in general then you most likely have issues that do not allow you to have any sort of meaningful relationship and that goes for women as well. You've been on here long enough to read all teh man/women bashing threads. They are usually written after someone has had a negative experience recently and are venting or they are written by people that seem to want to pin all their faults on someone else, not be objective about what they are looking for in life or who they are as a person, or possibly accept some responsibility for the bad decisions that they made. Thsi is not a gender issue it is a people issue.
