Picture or no picture - that is the question
Posted: 5/24/2007 4:20:31 AM
We all look the same in the dark, so picture is somewhat less important to me. We work (well most of us ) one third of our adult lives, sleep a third, and its dark a third.
As a person who often hears that I have a great face for radio, looks count for much in this society. From bad service in restaurants, to outright laughing when I went to get my license.
Are pictures important? Yes ! to all you good looking people out there they are.

Well as much as people hate to admit it(i will)The first chance of an attraction is from a persons appearance. After all this is a dating site, not a blind dating site.I have noticed that pei may have less pics posted than other places. If your wondering why your not getting alot of responses i wouldnt kid yourself into thinking its not because of a missing pic, cause it may be.Would you be interested in a car before you saw its appearance,or would you just be happy that it has a few good parts in there somewhere.I hope this will make some of you think it over, cause im having a hard time checking you girls out.I wont myself reply with no pic,i have mine its only fair.Im sure alot of people look at it like that.

Hey,
There was a time where I would reply to pretty much everyone. That has changed since I got burned...big time.
Like the story goes, met a great guy on here and talked for a few weeks, then talked on the phone for a bit. We decided to meet, and boy did I get a big kick in the gut. I had absolutely no physical attraction to him...and felt horrible for it. I thought maybe there was something wrong with me...I was thinking, you are so vain, that your just gonna drop him and not give him a chance. I couldn't do it tho I knew it wasn't fair to him to lead him on into thinking that the attraction was mutual.
So now...no picture....no reply...oh, and talk about some of them being insulted when u do ask for a pic...not worth it..lol...

I prefer a pic as well. While I rarely send the 'first' email to someone without a pic, I do respond - provided the note I receive is courteous.

I trust the admin, (site owner), as he seems to know what works and he says you have much better odds of getting respondents if you post a picture, like 90% better odds, which is significant. I would add that the photo should be a recent one. I didn't have my camera when I joined this site in December 2008, so I posted a younger photo of me at 33 as it was the only one I had available at the time. It was downloaded from an older profile page of mine from '98. I got, like, six pages of mail in three or four days.

Since then, I did get my camera from my former residence and shot a few rolls of film (old tech.) and then provided a current picture. The shape of my face hasn't changed much, since '89, but now when I have a coffee meet-up, I will resemble my photo better.

Also, we are told, males are more visually-oriented, although it's fairly safe to say, we women like "good-looking" men too. However, if messaged or invited to chat with someone with no photo, I will usually respond in kind, just in the interest of meeting someone for a bit of talk or a chat. Someone in a chat, very spontaneously, invited me for a coffee and I agreed, sight unseen. Within an hour, we had a very nice coffee meet-up and an interesting and quite pleasant conversation. I look for character too and not just appearance alone. I do pay attention to details, as well, like spelling, grammar and the interests of the person.

I wish you all well,
Laurissa

Peiromantic has a good point saying that
hav(ing) a lady read my profile without the pic, start getting interested, then get my picture later and drop me
is a definite possibility. A picture is just trying to make up for not seeing the person.

Everyone has physical criteria which a photos helps to discriminate and avoid dissapointments and backtracking later, whether it be corpulence, height, age, coloring, facial hair. In the natural order of the physical world, you see someone before you speak to them. The profile pics just complete the written of the profile.

My experience has been that the photo-less, make excuses for not posting a pic, but go on to comment on my looks from my pic and draw conclusions about further contact.

Talk about hypocrisy.
