I don't think a style of 'grudge' is even out there...at least I don't think...
but how about this, to end this foofoorah...
sombody ruffled your feathers about being emo, whomever it was, play past it, that's the best advice I can give you...for example, whenever I say that I am a fan of KISS, people usually laugh at me, and point out that 'they're old' or 'they're soft rock now'...blah blah blah...play past it, the most important person to know that it still counts is yourself, and if you believe that emo is everything you say it is, then power to ya, but please, don't try and pass it off onto other people, if you know this to be fact, say it to yourself, and play past it...otherwise...quit cryin'...I just want everyone to know, especially the OP, I'm not being hostile...I'm just trying to make a point...

i don't mind if people hate emo, but if you're going to put so much energy into hating one genre and style, you HAVE to hate gangsters as well, and country folk, and punk rockers, and ravers. if you really HATE one genre and style of music and culture, then it's mandatory that you hate the rest or at least a couple other very noticeable and popular styles, which would be Gansters and Rockers.
all's Emo is is a certain dress, and hairstyle, and music genre.
it's no different than gangsters and thug rap. it's all style and music genre.
BTW, i'm not emo. some people seem to think i am because of my hairstyle? but i certainly am not emo.
Why hate gangsters? Gansters and Punks share a common enemy, the same enemy who is responsable for both urban poverty and oppression of the third world, unfair trade, slashing veteran benefits, (both sing about police brutality), and I can go on and on...
BTWFYI I am a punk, a mall punk but still a punk with punk belief's, attitudes, and style :D And it is *not* neccessary to hate all genres, for example the metal community has taken itself upon itself to declare punks and emo's it's enemy (is why the chasm within the Goth community, the metalhead goths dislike the punk goths as a general rule). | |

Posted: 5/10/2007 4:42:16 PM | I agree with a guy a couple of posts back, it's just this generation's way of searching for their identity. Every generation has one, mine was punk and metalheads. Seriously, all this stuff will pass... you really don't need to prove yourself different, we are all unique and special. Lighten up on the depressing stuff though, life is good even when you are going through tough times. The 'no-on understands' stuff... we all went through it, we all survived it, and are much better adults for having suffered in our teens and twenties. The wrist cutting stuff is a little crazy in my book: I encourage this generation to lighten up a little... don't destroy your health and emotional well-being on the way down your identity search path. What's the point, if you are the emotionally connected person that you are attempting to emulate... you are probably going to be a pretty awesome adult! Don't wreck it.
Let this generation have it's identity search in whatever form... our parents thought we were crazy too. | |

Posted: 5/11/2007 5:16:01 PM | Seriously, like so many people talk bad about it and they don't know it's history. Many Emo people tend to be very very nice sensitive people. Plus the music's awsome from Rites of Spring and Moss Icon all the way up to Sunny Day Real Estate (who's influenced Dashboard Confessional by the way) Just want to know why people hate a genre they don't understand.
I've never even heard of it let alone understand or hate it. Please charachterize "emo". So then I can at least decide if I want to hate it or not. | |

I don't want to hear some 19-21 year-old talking about how much their life sucks and had their hearts broken so they're going to go cut themselves... Whatever! Cry me a river and call when you grow up and really experience life! (I know I'm stereotyping here but oh well...)

Posted: 5/12/2007 9:32:07 AM | The Emo that most people hate is the "Third Wave" form of Emo, which started with Jimmy Eat World and progressed onward with such bands as Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Heights, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, and Underoath.
Emo was started back in the mid 80's, it was an offshoot of punk that started in the DC area, but was considered by some to be emotional hardcore.
I personally despise and hate the Emo music of "today", in other words, the songs you hear on the radio most of the time now.
The Emo music of the 80's and early, early 90's was good, but nowadays it's just weefy. | |

I have no doubt that Emo's are nice, sensitive ppl - though I tend not to Generalize
What I do not understand is that Emo, (not a trend or whatnot,) if it is your way of life why would you care what ppl think??
Emo is Slightly based on punk
I am old school - when ppl that chose to be punk, were against spending loads of money to buy clothes, shoes what not, conforming....
Explain to me what you are about, are the rumours true that you cut yourself???
I doubt you have to cut yourself to be Emo
and I do not think anyone needs to explain themselves but since you brought the subject up and I am seriously interested | |

Check out their song 'changes' or even 'solitude' or 'megalomania'
and I was listening to them when i was like 14 and I'm 43 now.
No disrespect to Rites of Spring.I have their vinyl lp and it's f'n awesome.
I'm not emo,whatever that is,but I do love and have seen many bands that may be considered emo-From Autumn To Ashes,18 Visions etcetc.
I personally don't hate emo,nor do I dislike any kids who embrace it.

That being said, the music is pretty whiny alot of the time. Most of them should just grab the razor blade and end it all already.
Well most of the people who slit their wrists turn out to be emo, Some emo's do it for the fun of it. I know someone who has slit her wrists because she wanted to 'take away the pain'.........By giving herself more pain.....That works?? really??

Yeah, happens alot. I have a friend who likes MCR & he is far from emo.
OT: It's not that they 'hate' emo, they just have their own style & taste. I have tried listening to that genre & wasn't me. Although i do like Good Charlotte :)
I see an emo person as; someone who has their hair covering one or both eyes, Tight jeans with those belt with studs on, Wears vans & there are some people who think slitting their wrist is emo but emo is miss-understood. | |

- almost all are fakers.
- they really have no reason to whine. If they had that bad of a life, move to Africa and starve. So suck it up.
- the music is boring.
- they claim they're being different, but really, they are just all being the same as each other.
- everything from the way they act, to what they listen to is generic.
- they whine. and whine some more.
- they are the most g*ddamn boring people to go to shows with.
- in my books, sensitive is usually just code for being a p*ssy.
- flashing your cut wrists around? wow, two words; attention seeker.
- all being emo does is promote no fashion sense, anti-social behaviour and an addition to myspace/facebook/vampirefreaks.
- most emo kids react badly when you call them emo. which makes no sense.
- scene is just as bad.
- they have really bad hair, most of the time.
- There is a fine line of male grooming. emz break it by way too much. no guy should have eyebrows thinner than mine.
- Tight pants, not a good idea. personally, I don't want to see every teenager guys package through his pants when I walk down the street. If I wanted to, I'd take him home and screw him.
- Two words; Dylan Smith. Another 4; This City Takes Lives, also fondly known as This City Beats Wives, cause Dylan Smithxxx is a wife beater.
- The x's. Wow. Stupid.
- The being vegan just cause you're emo. It's like blind patriotism, but for a good cause.
- The fake straightedger's. Dumbest thing ever. And for the straightedgers who break edge a week later. P.S. if you're under the legal age limit, you're just complying with the law.

before the emo's it was the goths, before them rockers.. hippies.. movements always have their critics, aslong as their happy (which might be a bit hard for a pure emo.. but still :p) then brilliant, good luck to em i say, hope they enjoy it whilst it lasts (again.. hard). | |

That and the fact that the boys wear makeup and the boys look like the girls and girls look like the boys...I personally don't think that your Emo pants can get any tighter, you know it's bad for your jacobs to have that tight of pants mate?..
I don't personally hate that sort of style because it gives me something to laugh at when I'm bored at work hahahahah their tight pants...They all look the same as well which makes it even more funny because their main goal is to be an individual in society.. hahaha little slags.. | |
