Posted: 6/20/2007 11:47:47 AM | yeh i know what your on about!! It's coz so many people put us down as depressed phased teens!! Emo is jus about actually feelin what the persons singing about rather than hearing a song thinking yeh thats got a catchy tune i like it and not think anything of it!
well for someone to sit and write down there feelings and no-one feeling what there writing is really gutting for the person!! it takes alot of guts to do that!!
The whole media and other genre's have put the Genre down because of all the wannabe's who think it's all about fashion
but yeh thats my rant haha x | |

yeh i know what your on about!! It's coz so many people put us down as depressed phased teens!! Emo is jus about actually feelin what the persons singing about rather than hearing a song thinking yeh thats got a catchy tune i like it and not think anything of it!

I've allway's complained about MTV and major labels ruining the scene, however since it's actually hip to be yourself I suggest eating this up while you can before a not yourself trend comes along and your out of date. Of course I still hate MTV and major labels for creating a brand of attention seeking self-mutilators, I've played the Emogame which is abunch of Punk and Indie lead singers getting togeather to rescue the Get Up Kids (and in the sequel rescue Saves the Day), and the Emocation from it is surprizingly great, I beat up Creed in that game and just for that it was well worth the time playing it.
Your right though people don't get the message behind a certain genre but care too much about dressing the part. | |

Now that im MYSELF there is no other people to follow, some people look up to me and i love it! If i wona change i can =]

All of those bands/Artists are now classified as emo...because I understand and feel what they sing about...Not to be the negative factor, but not going along with that one...Or are you trying to say that emo is now a state of mind...like, "I'm in a totally emo state right now because I understand what he's singing about."

Why i hate emo, an informative essay by Zach W
I hate emo for several reasons. First and foremost all the whiny kids who live in their middle class suburban house and cry and complain because no one understands them. Guess what, no one understands anyone ever, if someone else understood you completely they'd probably be god ..... heh heh.... ministry.... i will be god, i will be god... anyways, where was i ? oh yeah.... secondly, it's a fashion trend and a clique, i've never been into those EVER, i'm a big believer in being yourself, the average person on the street would have no idea that i'm a total metalhead and chances are unless it was brought up, they'd never find out. Lastly but most important for me personally. the music... the "god awful no talent these four chords for my whole album and i'm gonna whine and cry and scream about it too" music. i'm a musician first and foremost and hearing bad uninspiring music pains my ears. knowing so many people have subpar musical preferences gives me disdain for the human race as a whole. c'mon guys.... girls.... well.... whatever you are. put some effort, actually learn an instrument, not just a couple chords and sell out, seriously, you're making the rest of us real musicicans look bad (or really good in comparison.... in that case, keep sucking it up)

Rock is supposed to kick ass, Rock is supposed to get you excited, Rock is supposed to have energy, Rock lyrics can be about anything, serious or silly , it really doesn't matter, but Rock songs should NEVER be about whining. No one likes a whiner!!! No one!!!
The term "EMO" pisses me off too, come on, every form of music that humans have ever created has had emotions associated with it, do think this is something new???
As far as the music is concerned, it's really mediocre and formulaic, all these bands sound the same they all SUCK!!!
I get even more pissed when people compare it to Hardcore or Punk Rock, SHUT UP!
You pussies wouldn't know Hardcore if it kicked you in your suburban,spoiled, white kid asses. One more thing, I hate the look too, you all deserve a beating and you suck!!!! | |

Because we f---? Aside from c--- there are no four letter "swears" You can't hate everyone who has sex you know. And by picking on someone just for what music they like or who they hang out with then how are you to be any different then the preps who are everyones enemy? Real Emo is actually an Indie level that is nothing like what the major labels make it look like. That is the purpose of major lables, to give people of a certain sub-genre negative stereotypes. Because certain sub-genres are aware of what's going on in the world that we all protest. Then after major label bands get signed a whole influx of posers comes in and ruins the scene for everyone making it harder to establish credibility. | |

But Emo WAS at one point a form of Hardcore punk. Then elements of Emocore spilled into Indie (Cap'N Jazz, Sunny Day Real Estate, and later on the Promised Ring and Onelinedrawing) And not all "Emo's" are white. What about the black Emo's who live in the city? Or even the white ones who also live in the city? Don't forget that Ian Mackeye of Minor Threat was from the suburbs. Does that make him any less punk? (he later formed Fugazi with the inventer of Emo Guy Piccioto, who is from Washington D.C) And Emo also has important political messages as well. Get Up Kids where on the "Rock Against Bush" togeather with non-Emo Anti-Flag and Ataris among other bands (some Emo) on the CD. | |

Posted: 9/19/2007 1:26:24 PM | i think it's more the fact that it's become "hip" and "fashionable"... so it's more times than not people hate the pre-packaged emo poseurs... ones that have no emotional rooting in the genre, but look at it as the new big bandwagon to jump on.
just slap on some of your little sister's tight jeans, throw on some chuck taylors, part your hair somewhere over by your ear, and voila!
as with any clique, there first was the "real deal", and then come the followers. some are legitimate in their interest, but plenty just want to ride coattails.
i've been called emo, i've been called goth, in earlier days i was called a banger/metalhead. i've been none, and then again, maybe i've been all... but firstly i was ME.
i can see how the resentment happens though...and it's happened over and over and over, with each emerging non-"standard" musical style.
don't sweat it....be true to who you are and screw the naysayers. if you're still a card carrying member in 10 years, more power to ya! | |

Totally agreed. It is the same with all the dumb teenagers who think that wearing baggy clothes makes them have their own identity when they are just being conformists and doing what everyone else does. I like being myself, people may not like my opinions and that is fine but I do not really care because it is part of who I am, I like having my own identity. | |

if you took a while and *really* examined the music, separate from the "poseurs" you might appreciate it.
as for the "real musician" quip....whatever man....i've played guitar for nearly 30 years now, also play drums, keys, bass, and sing... that's a lame-ass card to play. like YOU wouldn't want to cater your tunes to be heard by the masses. give me a break. or you'd rather sit in your basement and play to an audience of one solely to justify your musical righteousness? i do not think so.
if you bothered to actually look through the schtick, there's some really GOOD music there. some is good, some is not so good, the case with ALL genres of music. to dismiss it based on a lot of complete assumptions (based on reading your reply) would lead me to believe that you are, in fact, NOT a *real* musician, but someone looking for a target to unload on.
