Posted: 1/3/2008 11:43:54 AM | Mostly, I LOVE the english language. It is a living language, and we have some of the most interesting and colorful phrases.
The words that irk me are the ones that corporate bigwigs roll down the pipeline in order to infuse excitement for their new plans to increase their paychecks which does not translate into sharing the wealth with rank and file.
Prime Example--SYNERGY (The idea that the value and performance of two companies combined will be greater than the sum of the separate individual parts). Goes hand in hand with lay-offs/downsizing/outsourcing.
Overgeneralized statements that use the words all, none, always, never.
I am very weary of the F-word. (unt is horrid. | |

I *shudder* hate corporate words, like initiative, and utilize and differentiate, any word that could be substituted by a smaller, plainer one.
And you travel through middle management, there's a whole other word-culture there. It's a breeding ground for language-eaters. If you're Canadian, you'll know these people by their evil works.
They're the same people that changed "unemployment insurance" into "employment insurance" and made it mean the same thing.
I like big words, oh don't get me wrong. But I never substitute clarity for professionalism. | |
