Another of these endearing formulaic atrocities: substituting the word "ass" for a pronoun, by adding an article:

Your ass better be there on time.
I told his ass the fireworks started at seven!

Or the ever-popular use of "ass" as a modifier:

That was a long-ass movie!

I guess the word I really hate is Official! It has to be the most over used word that I have seen. It makes me think that the people using have such little grasp of the English language.

Attitude/with attitude. The glorification of bad manners. And "attitude" now covers inanimate objects, like food: "Macaroni and cheese with attitude". Thanks, but I DON"T NEED food with attitude. Mac and cheese with attitude sounds like something that's going to keep me awake all night!

Don't you love these people who end their sentences with a rising inflection? And they do it all the time? As though it were an intelligent way to talk? And everything thay say sounds like a question? Even the answers? "How are you today?" "I'm fine?"

"Go ahead. Make my day."
When Clint Eastwood said it: pure gold.
When anyone else says it: stupid and repulsive.
"I s*** you not."
"Are you serious?"
"As serious as a heart attack."
"This is your brain... this is your brain on drugs... this is your brain on drugs with a side of bacon."
Turning someone's first name into a title; i.e. Fred and Bob become "The Fredster" and "The Bobmeister", respectively.

Sportsnet's Don Taylor has something like that in his schtick. He'll describe a goal by Bertuzzi as being in "bertuzzian fashion" or a save by Giguere as being in "giguerian fashion". drives me nuts.

YOU CAN NOT TELL ME YOU DON"T LOVE IT WHEN I SAY...

"Big assed bag of chips"............or "Seriously??????" Because I'm as serious as A heart attack , no really?

I LOVE ALLLLLLLLLLLLL OF THOSE!!

that hurts.

and just so you know........a girls named ShaKOOtamee came to a program of mine and seemed really nice. So I guess it is a good word....but really shouldn't be a name.

I've never heard it used as a girl's name. That's different.
I spent a summer near chicoutimi quebec once (Lac St. Anne/Alma). It's a beautiful part of our country.

What is the story with "irregardless"?
regardless ..... without regard to

does that mean that
irregardless is "not without regard to"?....then why not just say regarding or with regard to?....

and..my personal favorite...
to unthaw something.... people use this in reference to something already frozen that needs to be thawed.....when in fact to "unthaw" something is to freeze it.

While buzz words and regional slang is annoying, poor pronounciation is the absolute worst. The local High School here has a Principal who never.. and I do mean "NEVER"
pronounces the final "g" on words. " mornin, sendin, seein, doin,...." and he sends weekly voice mail messages (sometimes daily but not less than weekly) to all the "Parents and or Guardians" of students who are referred to as "your son and or daughter". He also mispronounces the days of the week....Mondeeee, Tuesdeeee,Wensdeee , etc. and this man is an Educator. I live in Eastern Canada so his "redneck" tendancies are not regional and even if they were , being an educated person who is responsible for the education of so many others, I find his manner of speech beyond excuse.

late edit..... that link about Tom Hanks.....funny stufff.....looks just like the character he played on Bosum Buddies. Well done ajax

Will, "redneck" is a mindset, and not a geographical term, unless you believe in stereotyping people. Believe it or not, there are rednecks in Canada, just as there are in Tennessee, Chicago, New York, LA, Arkansas, Honolulu, Great Britain, Argentina, New Zealand, New Delhi, and any other place on the planet with a population. Another example of a grossly misused word. In some places, people would find your manner of speech beyond excuse, also.

Not at all; I agree that "irregardless" is redundant.

I didn't miss it...in fact, I mentioned it myself, back on page 3, but I know once these threads start getting this long, it takes too long to read through the entire thing.

Hey, can I say that? I think you have the makings of an intelligent comedy routine alot better than Jerry Seinfeld. I have enjoyed reading all of the "vernacular faux pas" that you really do not like, same here, Holy Catfish there is alot of garbage coming out of our mouths these days. may be you can put together a small monologue to educate and entertain. All the best. I could go on ad nauseum...lol

Deal.
Overheard in a shoe store.. "You got one of those foot-measuring deals?"
Thingy.
Overheard in the same store.. "Do you sell those insole thingies?"
Those ones/these ones.
Yep, same store: "Mommy, I want these ones!" "You already have those ones. Try these ones."
Then a woman carrying a baby puts a soggy $20 bill on the counter. Why is it soggy? Because while she's been standing in line, the baby has had it in its mouth. She tells the clerk: "She had dis in her mouth on a accident."

On a accident. Hilarious.
Guess it's better that it was on a accident than had the baby had an accident on it

I'm thinking this is strictly a Jim Rome thing...it's the only place I have heard it...but the way people use the word "war on" to mean that they like something and that they're cheering for it..."war on the Anaheim Ducks" or "war on Hillary Clinton". It's just absolutely stupid.

'This is true', instead of 'that is true'.

'You are kind of picky'

'This is true'
