| What were your S.A.T. scores? Posted: 5/16/2007 1:38:39 PM | I very clearly remember my combined score from a decade ago but I won't divulge as it is merely fluff. I think I was in a decent percentile despite the fact I was hungover, and after smoking a joint on the drive across town to take it.
Obviously I didn't take the test very seriously.
To comment on Biochemistry being some major fit for an ivory tower and only deserving of those of high academic stature...I laugh. I majored in Biochem. and Molecular Biology and from what I can recall most of my classmates (within the major) couldn't handle a fraction of the material thrown at them. In fact, most of our professors needed to normalize our scores by grading us on a curve so that what usually amounted to more than 70% of us wouldn't fail our courses. It didn't take me long to figure out most people chose my major to look better to doctor school admissions departments.
Anyway, as others have previously pointed out...after a certain point (very quickly after school) your gpa/test scores/undergrad school mean very little.
Love,
F. | |

| DUH your S.A.T. score forgettabout it... Take Harvard TEST instead Posted: 6/3/2007 2:00:17 AM | Latest Harvard Test This was developed as an age test by an R&D department at Harvard University.
Take your time and see if you can read each line aloud without a mistake.
The average person over 40 years of age can't do it!
1. This is this cat. 2. This is is cat. 3. This is how cat. 4. This is to cat. 5. This is keep cat. 6. This is an cat. 7. This is old cat. 8. This is fart cat. 9. This is busy cat. 10. This is for cat. 11. This is forty cat. 12. This is seconds cat.
Now go back and read aloud the third word in each line from the top down.

Posted: 6/3/2007 9:53:11 PM | In NSW Australia we have the High School Certificate (which doesnt give you and overall mark) and if you want to go straight to university from high school (you have to choose the correct subjects for this) you get a University Admissions Index. which is a rank based on who got the highest and lowest every year compressed giving the highest person 100 and the lowest 0.
I got 90.45 as my UAI. This is like saying I performed better than 90.45 percent of the state
Each year is different depending on how smart (or stupid) everyone else is, and the subjects you choose in senior high school can affect your mark. For example academically difficult subjects like physics get a kind of bonus because the average mark of students is lower than a less difficult subject like visual arts. Going to a disadvantaged school can also give you some bonus marks in your UAI.
Just for reference: To get in to a reputable uni in Sydney doing law for example you need a mark of about 97. A less popular uni somewhere in the country will accept 75 or some thing for the same subject. The UAI from a universities point of view shows how many places they have to fill and how popular they are, not neccessarily the intelligence needed to complete the degree.
Somebody explain to me how the S.A.Ts are calculated and what they mean for someone wishing to pursue further education. ???
p.s. Now I'm in University studying science and my GPA is about 2.1 out of a possible 4. unexpectedly low for someone who got a high UAI

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAT
One of our American members should be able to summarise it in two lines... but basically its a University Administration tool to help Uni's decide who will or will not be accepted to a course. (someone can further emblish on this, but the wikipedia entry give a pretty good explaination for us down under.)
What SAT has to do with PoF - beats the hell out of me.
