lol i drove some one away with Mr. Bungle once, but for me the clincher is usually the fact that i'm play guitar in a death metal band. its like once it comes out thats i'm into that then i must be satanic and every other sterotype you can think of, which is far from the truth . its not exactly the same, but i feel your pain.
