| | Home care? - Anyone know anything??Page 2 of 2 (1, 2) | | You have passion ! I was a nurse for many years and had to get out of if because of all the red tape . So i become one of those nurses who went into your home to take care of people like your uncle at a very low rate, it was about passion not the dollar sign .You aunt will need as much support as possible from the friends and family around her . It is hard work , even for me, when i took care of my mother when your around the suituation 24/7, but your heart will not let it be any other way. You are a compassionate person and i wish you all the best. If i lived near you i would have been there in a shot to help , that my nature .Take care Anita | |

Posted: 5/24/2007 6:47:25 PM | | I know it's been said but talk to the CCAC in your area. We recently had my grandfather at home for his final illness (lung cancer) and they were fantastic. They come in on consultations and make sure you have all the equipment you need to keep the person comfortable at home. We had a hospital bed, commode, oxygen converter, wheelchair, walker, and a pole to help him sit himself up when he wanted to. They also provided as much extra care as we needed (my mom took the compassionate leave time you're entitled to from work) and by the end we had nurses in every day. They were so helpful and my mom (who is a health care aide herself) found it nice that there was someone else checking her work and ensuring she was doing the right things. Our nurses were great and we can't thank them enough! | |
