| Landlord/Tenant Dispute - advice please. Posted: 11/22/2008 8:35:26 AM | I'm so tired of moving. Total disruption.
I think it's wrong if you take a place... agree to live there LONG TERM cause you're sick of moving, and as time goes you realize the "renovated" place you THINK you're renting has a quick-fix patch job to make it look ok.
And the only solution is to move, the landlord does another "quick-fix-patch-job" on the place and some other sucker moves in to the problems.
This is now before the courts and hopefully I get a judge that wouldn't want their own family living like that, throws the book at him and makes him fix these things properly.
Follow up calls have been made to the health region as well.
I hate slumlords! | |

But they've already been here - written their report. It's now almost a month past the deadline to have the repairs done.
I can't wait to find out what happens next actually.

| Landlord/Tenant Dispute - advice please. Posted: 11/24/2008 6:28:35 AM | | It is such a long drawn out process.I knew a fellow who asked for repairs. He even said he woul do the work if materials were supplied and he got a letter saying his rent was being increased from $700 to $10000 per month. That same landlord tried to charge big bucks to replace a window after my ex died. He was apparently not a beloved neighbour when the family lived there and became even less liked as a landlord.I see the places have been vacant for years,I neither know or want to know his reasons. It would be affordable housing for at least 10 people. | |

...$10000 .. If that is what it got raised to, no longer a slum lord!!
Think the finger stayed too long on the 0??
I used to be a landlord, there are some landlords that do not care, these are the ones that make it bad for the majority! The Landlord and Tenant Act still favors the Landlord, but with each revision, the tenant does get more support. The Health Act takes longer to enforce but is supportive of the tenant more so than the landlord, it's enforcement is the problem.

Tenant Act still favors the Landlord
I beg to differ.
I had given tenants a 2-week notice of termination for violating their lease in more than one way, and a 2-week notice was prescribed BY THE ACT for the violations.
The case went to court, a judge ruled IN FAVOUR OF THE TENANTS, and they were given a 3month notice. GIVE ME a BREAK. As a landlord, who has the power when squatters are moved IN BY THE TENANT?

| Landlord/Tenant Dispute - advice please. Posted: 11/25/2008 10:13:13 PM | If one does not like the JOB of being a landlord or land owner that leases or rents to tenants then really... there are other options to consider.
I would never do anything that made me perpetually cranky.

| Landlord/Tenant Dispute - advice please. Posted: 11/25/2008 10:24:13 PM | No Duffster- I saw it in the landlord's hand written note.It read $10,000 per month. PS The tenant had decided to leave the place, but talked at length to legal beagles about the matter. He continued to pay the agreed upon rent ie $700/month- until he left about 6 months after receiving the notice! The landlord was not well-liked in the neighbourhood even when he lived there, and apparently had quite a reputation in a wider area. I don't know if he has ever tried to sell the property, but I do know it has been vacant for 8 years now!!! | |
